Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

You can’t get HP back if you’ve been oneshot.

I went to the top of Mt Gelmir (which autocorrect tries to change to “my helmet”) and got oneshot by a falling star beast a few times and then got bored. I don’t understand why the basic enemies are so fucking mind-numbingly stupidly easy and the bosses all oneshot me. Every single one of them. It’s bad.

I ran past a load more enemies who would probably oneshot me and now I’m in volcano manor.

Edit: it’s full of groups of snails which I can oneshot (the entire group) and a bloodhound which oneshot me. Am I playing on fucking license to kill mode or something?

Ha, just ran into a boss high up in the Capital..

Spoiler

Godfrey.. first time I've felt like I proper steamrollered something in this game.  Poor dude didn't really have a chance.  And dressed like the first Tarnished, too! :D NICE.

Because you aren't putting any levels into Vigour.

27 vigor. It’s buffed by soreseal. If I don’t wear it every boss still oneshots me but I can’t oneshot basic enemies any more.

I oneshot the bloodhound guy. Magic is stupid OP.

Soreseal also makes you take more damage so it's balanced out.

Put more points in vigour. Block with a good shield for attacks you can't reliably dodge. Maybe get some distance and change your build lol.

Here's my stats when I beat both death bird and capital horsey man.  Somehow they didn't ever oneshot me?

Maybe your game is broken, idk?

Yeah you’re not getting one shot. At 27 vigor you’ll be able to take at least two hits from most of the bosses around your level, if not more. I assume what you actually mean by one shot is you fail to dodge the first attack in a chain and then eat the others in quick succession. You likely need to dodge later than you think you do - you basically need to roll through the attack, not before it or away from it. You’re aiming to be in the middle of your roll’s invincibility frames as the attack hits you, not coming out of your roll.

No, If I take a single hit from them I die. E.g. Draconian Tree Sentinel’s ranged lightning attack which comes out at 50%. Meanwhile every other enemy drops in a single hit, sometimes two. I can wipe whole groups of every enemy I’ve seen so far with moonveil’s R1.

I’m wondering if soreseal is to blame, I tested damage input output with each of the seals and it didn’t make much difference because of the increased vigor offsetting it, but maybe the increased damage scales greater for bosses. I’ll test on next boss

Hey can someone give me a little hint please.  I'm a bit stuck / lost in the Capital.

So I naturally first found my way into the sewers, lol.  That seems like a maze and it's own area, given it's called the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, and all.  I decided to stop exploring there and return to the outside.

I'm pretty sure I've diligently explored everywhere topside, but must be missing something.. I've opened sevela 'shortcuts' that lead to places Iv'e already been, kicked down ladders, etc.  I've found a broken bridge behind a combat lion, fought a tree spirit (not the horrible infected one, but a regular one), killed every enemy I could and made my way to a massive door and.. it doesn't even have an open prompt!

Can someone point me in the right direction, gently?  Or do I need to go down? :eyebrows:

Edit - wait!

Maybe I climb up the big dragon!?!

Just did that tonight. The capital is a lot to take in, it’s kind of head spinning how sprawling it is. It’s surely the most detailed and intricate Souls “level” ever?

The armour values are the percentage your damage is reduced before it's applied. Are you wearing light armour and maybe need some points in Endurance or a much bigger vigor bar to offset?

I was regularly getting one shot on low vit but haven't been in an age on 30 + soreseal. Alternatively you get a bit of defense each level maybe you are just to long on general.

The sentinel outside the Capital did moderate damage to me only and went first time with an ash. Level 85 or so. I just racked that up clearing catacombs and caves and wandering about, no grinding.

I don't agree.  Its like arguing you should be able to beat every enemy in zelda irrespective of whether you have the right item or not.

It's not Zelda and it's not my first rodeo. I've hulk smashed my way through 4 Souls games and basically played Bloodborne like a Souls game with the Kirk hammer. A random invader should not be made impossible for straight melee for the craic.

Anyway, arrow to the face did quickly enough. But From occasionally can help themselves with bullshit and that was definitely one.

You can climb on the rafters and drop attack her, btw.

I must be playing this differently to everyone else.

211 hours in. Think I've rinsed the available areas and I still keep finding new things. Just started the Capital and ...

Spoiler

What's with the saxophone playing Weebles?

A few minor complaints but this really is something amazing.

Mapping L3 to nothing for horseback fights made a huge difference.  (Settings, controller and square so it's---).

Aside from making PS4 sound like a jet taking off how is this running so well?

Miriam is not impossible with straight melee. I killed her with my STR build.

On the topic of the boss that's one-shotting Moz, I just got to it today and it's one-shotting me too, but I have quite a different build. What I'm wondering though is:

Spoiler

Boss in question is the Star-beast on top of Mount Golmir. Many of its attacks are one-shotting me and I'm doing puny damage to it with all the weapons/affinities I've tried. However I already got to the manor via other means so this was just an exploratory session going along the standard mountain climb, so in the end I just galloped past him over the rock bridge. I could survive quite a while on the horse if I dodged the one-shot attacks but it was too slow of a fight with my low damage (highest I got was about 2/5ths damage to him). Progress-wise I'm level 63 or something and roadblocked at the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside the capital so went off to do other stuff. I'm wondering if most people here just bypassed the Star-beast and came back later, or were you powerful enough to take him on? I have a very low Vit build and have deliberately not been levelling up weapons too much, but this one and the Draconic Tree Sentinel are significantly beefier and harder hitting than other recent bosses I've taken on.

As with pretty much everything else in this game he goes down relatively easily with sorcery. I believe he’s resistant to all physical damage but applying magic damage to a piercing weapon should work I would think. Slashing weapons won’t do shit to him. His speed makes staying on horseback the most effective way to deal with him too, I found. Main danger is the charge attack but once you’ve got the read on that he’s not too bad. Think I was around level 80 or so when I took him on but I very much focussed on INT so my spells were hitting hard from the get-go.

Purposefully not upgrading weapons is gonna make life pretty difficult for yourself after a while though, unless that’s your intention. I found it fairly essential to keep them at a level commensurate with the smithing stones you have access to at whatever point in the game you’re at, in order to keep pace with the foes that stand in your way. The Capital felt like a pretty hefty bump in that regard.

Thanks. I did put some magic arts on some of my weapons for him but the output was still pretty dismal. I was on the horse, I did try onfoot twice but got oneshot by the roll attack which seems really hard to dodge. I've been self imposing difficulty on myself with stats and weapon upgrades, only really upgrading weapons when I feel I'm not making enough of a dent on most bosses/mobs. But the two bosses I mentioned may warrant some major upgrading. Currently my highest weapon is a standard +12 but even then my trusty Winged Scythe is still one of the most reliable damage outputs and its only at +5 (it uses the special stones). My other best weapons are around +9 > +11 and some around +6, but even with this I've been getting on fine, swapping in lower output weapons for easier bosses and so forth. But sounds like from what you're saying the capital may force me to invest!
