Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

I run around in light armour with 30 vigor and I don't think anything has oneshot me yet. Definitely not the Golmir fallingstar beast... Unless it's the massively signposted enormous gravity AOE of doom which couldn't be more obvious.

I'm not entirely convinced with vigor. It seems to be percentage based damage or something.

God damn the final boss sucks. I’m back there for a third time but my new build just does nothing, and I’m taking way more damage. Ended up with about two estus and mimic dead before the second phase started. I’m going for the third ending trophy (no I don’t reload saves for different endings), but it’s somehow even harder work than it was the last two times.

Anyone want to help me out later?

Think I've got hugely side tracked and have spent the last few days underground, probably concentrating on

Ranni's

Side quest to the exclusion of the main quest. I haven't heard much about the Erd Tree for a while. However my character has started telling people quite freely that he

Intends to burn the Erd Tree

Even people who I would think wouldn't be too happy about that sort of behaviour like the crone sitting in the room with the fingers.

I get the impression that's taking me down this game's equivalent of the Kaathe pathline, if there is such a thing. Or is it really just the "mainstream" option in this game (seeing as there didn't seem to be any other way to get into the

Other than by burning it, which presumably I need to do to become

Could someone tell me which part of the world is best for somber stone 7s? I have plenty of 8s and 9s but struggling for 7s.

I'm pretty sure I mopped up a few in

Mountaintop of the Giants and Lake of Rot

On a similar note, I need lots of smithing stone 6, and have only found two of them in the last 20 hours or so.

Can be bought from the Twin Maidens at Roundtable if

Spoiler

you've given them the +3 ball bearings.

You can't get to the item that unlocks them in the shop until after you've beaten the Capital..  so if you haven't done that yet, you don't strictly need +6 stones just yet.

It's not Zelda and it's not my first rodeo. I've hulk smashed my way through 4 Souls games and basically played Bloodborne like a Souls game with the Kirk hammer. A random invader should not be made impossible for straight melee for the craic.

Anyway, arrow to the face did quickly enough. But From occasionally can help themselves with bullshit and that was definitely one.

Pretty sure I chased her down and smashed her with my Zweihander in the end, although I definitely weakened her with arrows...

It's a 10, although it's to be expected and I imagine a riot would break out if it wasn't

Only 1 better than Forza Horizon 5? FROM was robbed.

Finished the overall main story with around 130 hours or so on the clock but by no means finished.  Up to about 160 hours now and just been cleaning up dungeons I've missed as well doing any finishable quests, collecting weapons/sorceries/talisman as well as helping people as much as I can.  Amazing game, this and Sekiro are probably my favourite FROM games.  I do want to do an NG+ eventually but not right away.  Shoutout to my new love affair with Rivers Of Blood, amazing weapon.

If anyone wants a guide for mopping up dungeons they've missed this has been pretty good so far.  I missed 4 - 5 in Limgrave alone.

I had a pretty interesting session last night. Did some backtracking to mop up a couple of bosses I didn't stand a chance against the first time, so now I've finally taken down Rykard and Mohg, the latter proved the most challenging because I was being too agressive often resulting in getting killed by his AOE attacks. Finally found a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone as well, so I popped the achievement for making a maxed out weapon.

Not sure where I'm supposed to go next but I suspect the way forward is to push on past the dragon in the tornado place.

More chortlesome invasion fun yesterday evening in

Spoiler

Volcano Manor

Spoiler

One of my favourite things is to lie in wait around the corner near the first grace point, behind one of those big double bladed death on wheels bastards. Or, alternatively, to run back as they chase me and "accidentally" fall down to where that troll faced fucker is. Both methods were used in one incident to take out a blue player, a gold player and then, once the host had backed out of the centre gate in panic, the blade on wheels came to finish the job behind them as I spunked madness fire everywhere.

However! The same players got their revenge much later though:

I had invaded down the bottom again, and was like oh, look who it is! This time they waited up by the boss door across the bridge, with the host coming around the corner waving at me.

This was bait.

I charged up the hill, the host stopping just on my end of the bridge near me. I really should have twigged something was up, because just as I was about to crest the hill on my side and engage the host, facing them, a massive gravity well spell went off out of nowhere from across the bridge, grabbing me and pulling me over the edge and into a fiery lava death.

I haven't laughed so hard in ages

When he holds his weapon up and drops lightning on you? Roll as he drops his arm.

Yes this! This was such a nice little cue once I found it. You kinda need to be able to take a couple though first in order to spot that kind of thing. At least I did.

Edit: posted this before but here's my fight for anyone currently struggling. Really did like this one.

I went for a wander in this and found

Spoiler

a little winding hillside path completely around the castle at the start and onto a huge new lake-filled region. A Lake District, if you will.

I was thrilled. Completely thrilled. Could I avoid combat entirely and just shortcut by way to the end of the game?

Dr Shark's right, but... You CAN shortcut your way to about 75% of the game's landmass though, which is pretty amazing to be fair.
