Ahh I finally completed Alexanders quest on my first character, he didn't appear in CFA, he was still in radhans arena, I realised afer my battle on my other character that I had not spoken to him in my first playthrough there, now I have his shard oh yes!

Today is a good day it seems. Exploring Crumbling Farum, some tough enemies but got through it and beat the Godskin duo on attempt 3.

And now just need one item to upgrade my Lordsworn Greatsword to it's final level.

yeah there's a glitch that lets them teleport around, it's ridiculous I've no idea how they discover this stuff. Makes the speedruns a bit dull to watch though. Same as when people go running around outside the map in Dark Souls 2. It's not very interesting to me.

If you’d like to use a method which does not require AHK, try the Metronome method but it depends on your hardware specs.

Go to the in-game Graphics Settings and change the Quality to Low.

And under Advanced Settings, change the Texture Quality and all other Quality settings to Low so that you get 60 FPS throughout the duration of this trick.

Plus, toggle Motion Blur, Depth of Field, SSAO, to Off.

You can use the Metronome sound from any website or software. Set the BPM to 109.

Keep your character at the location and facing the direction where you want to teleport.

Press Left Click + ALT at the same time (which will make your character use the shield to block) and wait for 4 clicks, press W on your keyboard.

Urgh, they're not really speed runs at all then, are they?

Actually that's pretty much textbook definition of one!  Breaking a game to finish it as soon as possible.

Have you never watched Games Done Quick?  You should!

I quite like the idea of people beating the game in the fastest way possible, but not using bugs.  Doesn't seem very interesting to see bugs being exploited.

I think the "all remembrances" category, which basically means all major bosses are fought, will be good once they patch out the carian retaliation & wraith calling bell exploit. It was quite fun before, even when it relied on the Sword of Night and Flame to power through most encounters, but as it is now it's a bit dull watching players not engage with the bosses by using a glitch.

I like a balance of recognisable player skill and fun exploits in my speedruns! Too much of the latter is no fun to me.

Fair enough. I've not really ever watched them.  I just thought they would be all about player skill, and maybe using tricks that the designers hadn't intended to skip past / speed up sections, within the rules of the game -  I can see why that would be interesting and entertaining.

No idea where to go next, so I guess keep exploring where I am now.

Anyway also took down the dragon in CFA. Which was a tough fight but using dragongrease and the mimic tear meant I got it in the end and can now upgrade my sword to its final level.

Today has been a good day in the Lands between.

While there are definitely bug exploits in games that lead to uninteresting speedruns (and, to be fair, this seems an example of that), the more complex ones can be incredibly challenging and tense watches; people executing chains of clipping glitches/pointer exploits etc. that need to be performed perfectly. It's been a while since I watched one, but I remember greatly enjoying some of the N64 Zelda speedruns for that exact reason!

Oh for sure, but I think the research and execution involved in figuring out the glitches is kind of incredible too, in a different way.

The excellent hbomberguy did a cool piece in speed running and why its amazing.

@Davros sock drawer You can beat the final boss and still back out of there to continue wandering the world. It's much like Sekiro in that you

Spoiler

approach a thing (like Kuro) and basically choose from the available endings.

Edit: Also, even after you see an ending and the credits you can continue. You're not pushed into new game against your will.
