Oh, I see.

I'm playing offline so I'm spared from all that.

Honestly it's an acquired taste - personally I love it, but there's a lot to be said for not having a beautiful vista spoiled by a message right below you that says "still no lover... Try but hole"

The game would be massively improved if From banned the word “finger” from being used in combination with “but” or “hole”, but I suppose the comedy geniuses would find something else to spam across the entire world.

TBH, I would love it if you could mute words or certain combinations of words, like on Twitter.

I was thinking about this, the idea I had was if I disparage a message it should stop it appearing in my world again.

Does it impact you playing the game that much? I just stopped reading messages unless I was in a position in a dungeon that made me think. Shits going down by here. I wonder if someone is being helpful with their messages here.

Turns out most of the time they were being helpful.  Saved my skin a few times has reading the words foe left.

It doesn't annoy me that much really, and some of the joke messages are genuinely witty. I just find it a bit annoying that this one joke is spammed over and over again. It's like these people think they've solved comedy.

Finally returned to Elden Ring tonight after a long hiatus. Made some progress in the underground:

Spoiler

In Ainsel river via Ranni's portal, I explored the lower section of the city where there are the spider-riding priests and ants. Ended up having to do the top half again because I spied a golden seed and had somehow missed the doorway leading to it. Down the lift at the bottom and I found the Lake of Rot. I'd heard of this and was expecting it to be a pain, but it wasn't too bad thanks to my Faith spell that cures Rot, and my mushroom armour which has good resistance. I only died a few times whilst managing to scoop up all the items in the far reaches. I didn't bother fighting the dragon knight boss in the lake though, that has got to be a nightmare, a boss fight in a rot infested lake! One for later!

The lake led me into the red temple which was a complete 'mare. I ended up using the Radaghan soldier summons to help, as they have fire weapons, and although the summons are quite weak, with their assistance I finally, after many attempts, managed to cut through the hordes of Pests to reach the temple chest and the waterfall down. I did try the slug boss that drops down by the rotfall a few times, but will come back for him later too.

Down into the coffin I got to the star boss, what an arse he was. Really annoying with the some of the bad old Bloodborne traits, where your weapon reach isn't enough, and if you get under him you're screwed because you can't see what he is doing. And he has that annoying teleport/grab attack that wrecks your camera and one-shots you if you get caught. Also I would sometimes get one-shot by his meteor shower attack, although I finally figured out that if you charge straight ahead, even as far as passing under the boss, they usually don't hit you. It was a painful few hours but I got him in the end (my weapon of choice was the Tree Spear). My progress here was thwarted though because I don't have the item needed to get through the next seal.

I decided to hop over to Sofria River whilst I was underground, and polish off the open area full of tribal guys, the one that leads to the entrance to Nokron (I already did Nokron a while back). This wasn't too bad, I just ran around on Torrent slaying the beastmen, lighting the fires and finding all the secrets, as well as slaughtering hordes of deer for those lovely beast bones. Finally I lit all the fires and faced off against the Spirit Ancestor Mk II. I only died once but was not expecting the new second phase, which turned into a battle of attrition where I had ran out of flasks and it came right down to the wire. Did it though!

During my exploration I'd found the pathway behind the Ancestor skeleton leading to the tower structures built into the cliffside, so I went there next. This turned out to be the Aqueduct and the first foe was a Crucible Knight in close quarters. I spent ages trying to knock this guy off the ledge with my retribution spell (it knocks back enemies) but he was too heavy. In the end I had to fight him mano e mano, where my hours spent in the Evergaol fighting the crucible knight there paid off. In the climatic final battle with him, I got him to phase 2 and he did the flying attack right over my head, through a window and off into the void. See ya!

Continuing on I wasn't very happy to find yet another Knight, the horny spear type ones (oo err). Not as bad as the sword guys but still tough. They're really frustrating because they always stab you with their insane reach whilst you are trying to heal. It wasn't helped by a load of zombie mobs aggroing in the fight, so in the end I lured him to where the crucible knight was for a one on one battle, but kept dying. I died quite a few times to his charge shoulder attack in phase 2, which if it catches you just stunlocks you to death. At this point when reassigning spells, I realised I had enough Faith to try out the crucible knight spells I'd learned - the shoulder charge identical to the one that was killing me, and the tail swipe that the crucible knight uses. The tail swipe was a bit slow and useless, but the shoulder charge did good knockback when I tried it against ol' Speary. In a bit of inspiration I realised that if you don't aggro him in advance, the knight has his back turned and is on a cliff edge, maybe I could use the charge to knock him off? I tried it out and charged it up right behind him, and bosh, he got flung off into the depths! Just like his bro - See ya!

I cleared out the zombies, found more items and finally found an NPC by the railings. The game offered to give D's armour to this whimpering guy. Oh shit, this is D's brother. I'd assumed from the note description that was left after D's death that his brother would be in the Capital sewers, not down here! I dutifully gave his brother the armour but he didn't seem very happy, and vanished after the next reset. Maybe he'll go and get revenge on Fia?

Up the stairs was a boss door and appropriately a summon sign for the original D (RIP). I took him along to face the giant gargoyle. I hate these things, in the capital outskirts the one there ruined me many times before I finally killed him a while ago, and the one outside the Beastman temple in Dragonbarrow can do one too. So I wasn't very thrilled to see this, but D is tanky and we got him down to about half health.... when another gargoyle suddenly appears! Fuck this shit! After getting splatted I gave it a few more goes but I think its a bit beyond me at the moment, and having already fought a bunch of bosses and minibosses, I was fatigued, so stopped for the day.

I'm now about level 80, I put another point into Vigour to take me up to 25 and not really sure what I'll do next. My current main quest roadblock is Margit Senior at the end of the Capital, so I was planning to level up a bit before facing him again. I still have a lot of the Capital to explore, and I'm roadblocked in Volcano Manor by bosses. I'm thinking maybe I will check out the Belfry teleports, or maybe the forest in Altus Plateau that's crawling with death giants. Definitely need to get out from underground and have a break from bosses, its killing my mojo!

On PC this evening I kept seeing bloodstains from someone on here with a name that looks like a Japanese character or somesuch. There are runes around it so it's someone using the Rllmuk group name. Looks like: /_ but with the slash line curved through the horizontal line. Anyone?

Yeeeas I did Alecto last night. Massive cheese fest as she got stuck on a rock and didn't attack. I don't care! I'm now free to explore again.

Finally moved onto Altus and wrecked a few bosses first time. Got transported to the manor and promptly died while exploring outside, without getting a bonfire first, so now my runes are stuck in an area I can't seem to get back to. Oh well!

xbox :( I’ll get there…: thanks tho

I genuinely sympathise. Getting brickwalled is no fun and really drains you. There are a few videos out there now (one in this thread) of a technique that involves hitting the giant with Rotten Breath or Swarm Of Flies immediately before the halfway cutscene. The status effect continues to tick his health down during the cutscene and he dies pretty soon after. Summon Alexander and the Mimic to help you and cheese that bastard.

yeah - I was looking for alexander and I couldn't see him - looks like I need to go and do some other stuff first.  I've got my mimic pretty strong and had him down to a single bit of health and then got massively battered.  Most of the bosses have been enjoyable and exciting events - this one just feels like a grind, and given the design of the area - feels as though it was added for the sake of it.  Having a large area and then chucking up impassable walls just makes it feel like an afterthought - rather than designed in.

I thought it was a spectacular boss fight and really enjoyed it - but I'd possibly feel differently if it had taken me more than a few tries.

I'm just running up and slashing at his feet as fast as I can while attempting to avoid rubbish AOEs...  it would probably look impressive from a spectators pov but all I can see are massive feet and the insides of his hollow polygon legs when it glitches.

Are you breaking the splint on his left leg? He takes extra damage when you hit him there. No help during the second phase, but at least it makes the first go quicker.

Left ankle is the weak spot in phase 1 (the one with rope around it - the other has a metal bracelet protecting it). Left forearm in phase 2.

I also didn't find him to be that much bother at all either!
was around level 120, +10 Moonveil and +8 Mimic.
Sword & Boarded him to death hitting the weak spots for massive damage.

...just wait till Melina 😅

There are two entrances to the fight, Alexander only appears at one of them. With Alexander and your Mimic in the fight you can pretty much keep a safe distance and hit the giant with ranged attacks. Horrible crusty bastard that he is.
