The only socially acceptable farming is jolly cooperation. Facts.

It does feel a bit dirty. Surprised they didn't address the bird farm in the previous patch. I saw a video of someone using the Sacred Relic Sword to clear out the sleeping Albinaurics in the same area - with the golden scarab and chicken foot I think it was a higher rune count than the bird.

I think I will go new character and do something completely different to my Faith/Strength build. Never really found NG+ in any Souls game that satisfying or interesting, I end up rushing and being careless. I saw some Phantoms in full Ranni gear which looked ace so will probably go caster.

Can't believe that after over 240 hours I'm ready to start all over again and am actually excited about it. Game of the forever.

What version are you playing?

If you’re a crazy person really keen and have the digital PS5 version you can DL the PS4 version, play that and get all the trophies again.

PS5 VRR is now live. I tested a little.

PS5 version supports VRR and feels much smoother as a result

PS4 version on PS5 is still locked to 60hz (but almost never strays from 60fps)

If you’re playing PS4 version on PS5 for maximum performance and you have a VRR TV there’s a good argument for migrating to PS5 version for the load times and better grass/shadows. Framerate is still a bit lower but feels noticeably better with VRR.

BUT

Your trophies do not come with you. They all need to be earned again. If you’re nearing platinum on PS4 it probably makes sense to platinum it and then migrate to PS5 for NG+ (or start again).

The save data is a one way sync, it doesn’t destroy your PS4 data when it copies it to PS5, but you cannot play on PS5 and then sync progress back to PS4.

yeah this was my farming area too - hitting the first bird you can see with an arrow or bolt, then clearing that first wave of 'alibis' - with the gold scarab, gold chicken foot, and runes buff from being in a group where someone just killed a lord, was getting me about 80k runes or so each time?  sticking extra bleed on the nagakiba made short work of them too, so an easy 500k runes in 12-15mins.

Thanks I'm going to try the PS5 version later, really interested to see how it performs, this sounds promising.

I levelled up to stupid levels with jolly co-op... it was most enjoyable.  Pretty much means that there's never anyone around for fighting bosses though - hence probably why I'm having such a hard time with Fuck Giant.

This was my take:

Although it also turns out

  Reveal hidden contents

Renalla never dies anyway and is around when Sellen is still normal in the room.

That all made sense when I read it last night. But then I read the wiki and realised that ...

Spoiler

Sellen doesn't actually transform unless / until you complete the optional stage of her quest, which is finding her friend who is hiding away underground in Caelid, near the town of sorcery. If you just do the stuff about transferring her essence into a new body and all of that, she will stay in her human form indefinitely. So I wonder if there's a lore reason for that.

what's the bird part of that?

I did quite a bit of levelling just battering sleeping slitheen to death.  I felt kind of guilty.  Poor things.

I was only level 120ish around there which from reading this thread I get the feeling isn't all that excessive, but I could never find anyone to help out with FG.

if you turn around after 'waking up' from the site of grace and look down, there's a big bird patrolling the blood lake below.  tag 'em with an arrow or bolt and they run off the cliff, so you're good for another 11-14k runes.  after a few goes, the task can be done pretty routinely and quickly.

With the right tools you can also rinse the other nearby enemies there for crazy runes.

Spoiler

I never used that sword and skill (you need to beat the final boss to get it), but I could still finish them off pretty fast with RoB/Nagakiba.

By the time you get to the final areas you really don't need to farm the game throws so many souls at you it's ridiculous. I just tried the vrr on the pS5 version, it's definitely better but it still hiccups here and there and after 300+ hours on the pretty solid ps4 version I'm not swayed to switch by some better lighting. Actually the pop in was worse too.

I expanded my repertoire for Melania - I have the rivers of blood sword, the swarm of flies (missed this first time through that area) as well as the icy dragon mist I got yesterday. She’s still really tough. A few times I get to the 2nd phase barely taking a scratch. Others, not so much.

That's one thing I don't like/understand - why gate off the co-op like that? If I want to co-op, why shouldn't I be able to just be available to anyone that needs help - why do they need to be around the same level as me? If I can help somebody that's much lower level, why not just let me do that? If I put my summon sign down, I think everyone should be able to see it and I'd be happy to go in and help anyone (and vice versa, if I'm looking for help I'd love to occasionally bring someone in and marvel at their powarz).

At worst, make it an option - let me go in settings and say "allow summons from all levels" or something.

If summoning ignored player level, you'd get godlike players being summoned to low-level bosses and one-shotting them. Which might be fun, but probably goes against From's design philosophy and would be quite anticlimactic. You'd also probably get very weak players summoning or being summoned, and getting killed immediately. You can imagine how that could be used for griefing.

You could maybe optionally turn it off as a kind of accessibility option, but it would be quite hard to manage given that it would affect other people's games and not just your own.

There was a place I went to AGES ago, around the time of doing the academy bit where I went to this area with loads of 'hand' enemies. It was just a 'NOPE!' moment and I ran away. Have since met those enemies elsewhere and can easily kill em. Would like to go back to that original area I 'NOPE!' out of but just can't figure out where it was. Spent about 30mins darting around different graces trying to find it, gave up in the end.

This happens a lot for me, the map is so huge I just forget locations.

Caria Manor. North Liurnia.

Also, get a pen and paper FFS! ;)

Sounds like Caria Manor

Is the bird farming spot still active? Planned on hitting that for a few DEX points tonight.

Yes it is. This glitch was right next to that spot too. A minutes worth of work for 115k runes and they blocked it off. The gits.

It adjusts the power anyway, doesn't it? I play this with my nephew who is just starting out and very low level, and when he summons me (using passwords) I have half the health I usually have and only a few flasks. I assume it also scales down my damage output so I can't one-shot any bosses (in fact I know it doesn't because the early bosses like Magrit are very challenging still).

It could just apply these rules to everyone, so there aren't awkward spots where people can't summon anyone because there is no one close to their level nearby.
