Just beat her about 10 minutes ago. She's a massive prick.

Ended up being able to do the first phase not taking a hit repeatedly but the 2nd phase was a shitfest.

Nice, well done

Took me over 200 tries to do Melania before realising she was

Spoiler

optional

Amazing fight though. Even the really tough fights in this have been mostly enjoyable.

Was just about to roll my character into NG+ before I realised there was a boss I'd missed in CFA. Gonna be a long night.

Decided to do two new runs - one with my NG+ character and also a NG as a caster/witch build. Definitely want that Ranni gear. Will play the saves side by side and progress them together.

God I love this game so much. Just not bored or tired of it at all. The more I play it, the more addictive it becomes.

yeah, but I fought my way there and wasn’t about to bail :hmm:

I already had a bunch of tools to fight her but tweaking my gear and levelling up a few (5?) more times for some extra stats helped. Switched from the flamberge sword to rivers of blood although both did bleed so not sure if it was needed. The swarm of flies was handy though as it slowed her down and my poise was something like 80 with a talisman but I still had medium roll.

I did the fire giant then took a detour to see her so will get back on track now.

Iron Pineapple smashing it with another amazing challenge run...

Can you complete the game while always overequipped.  Without using the horse.

Cheers Rob, that is absolutely brilliant. The Radahn kill is hysterical and the Malenia Waterfowl Dance cancel move is genius. Wish I’d have known that before.

I loaded up Bloodborne earlier. You know it looks almost identical in terms of technology, I prefer the Victorian style though and it still looks beautifully dark.

I don’t want a remake but a patch would be good enough for PS5.

It’s just weird how I loaded up Elden Ring and thought “well it doesn’t look very good” but then you stare at it for 160 hours and your seduced by it’s grainy dimmed appearance.

Started replying Dark Souls yesterday… aside from the jump, it’s the same.  The intro is almost identical! There’s even a bit when the ‘sky’ is on fire and it’s exactly a rune arc or whatever they’re called.

Remastered still looks great on the switch.

Only in the sense that it's Dark Souls DX plus alpha. I don't really think of Dark Souls much when playing this though. Mechanically similar but I feel like I'm playing a completely different game.

Starting NG+ and a fresh NG this weekend. Really looking forward to seeing my +10 ashes against the early bosses and how that plays out.

Any joy yet?

I'm a ranged sorcerer (read: coward) and I'm pretty stuck, I don't think levelling up will make a difference as I've reached a bunch of level caps. Not quite sure how to proceed now, she's first boss I've been properly stuck on.

I could talk about Melania for ages! But trying to keep it brief...

- Swarm of Flies got a small nerf in patch 1.04 BUT it's probably still VERY good for the second phase. She spends ages just sitting on the ground after doing her big rot flower move and you can get in 2-3 flies and take a huge chunk off of her health if you get the bleed proc. Definitely recommend at least trying it

- In general both bleed and frost are effective against her.

- She has very low poise - being a caster might make it difficult to take advantage of this though, I've never really dabbled with much of the magic stuff so can't really give specific advice, but any kind of magic projectile will probably stagger her I would have thought. So you can be much more aggressive than you might think.

- Never tried it myself but I've heard the Black Knife Tiche summon is pretty good at dodging her attacks, which really helps with her health regen.

- General aggression is very good vs her - if you have any kind of summon just really try and attack as much as possible to break her poise and hopefully stance too.

- Her big 3x flurry attack (Waterfowl Dance) can apparently be cancelled by a freezing pot. Also, if you're using the mimic summon any item that you equip in your "down" slot will also be used by the summon too, so worth bearing that in mind..

In terms of really, really learning to dodge her attacks if that's your bag, I found two videos very helpful. This short tutorial video is especially good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYrOwjNcR-g (credit to Nate Dogg I think it was who originally posted it in the thread). It really simply takes you through some of her attacks and her general patterns and tells. There's also this which is a longer one that helped me too: https://youtu.be/J1P93hzB360 this one has a lot of slow mo! Which I thought was nice.

Would love to help but I'm on PS. Good luck! She is a really, really tough boss. If you can get past her you can get past anything in the game :).

I started NG+ with a 160 lvl character and I've gone from the start and done stormveil and the Raya Lucaria Academy with out coming close to dying once. It took me about 2 hours. I think from a base start it took me about 40 hours to get to that point and I died hundreds of times. It's very very easy at this point. And do you know what, I much much much prefer it. The only thing missing is the sense of discovery as obviously I've already spent hours in those areas originally.

For me personally I would have preferred to have initially played through the game at a difficulty level closer to this (probably with the bosses being harder), and just had the joy of all the wonderful discoveries and coming across new vistas etc, without the constant fear of being ganked the whole time. I appreciate that other people get different things from it, but as I say for me I would have found it more enjoyable.

As I've said it's certinaly one of the best games I've ever played, but for me it's nowhere near the most enjoyable.

Right everyone here seems to love this, my son and my friends were all raving about it so I picked it up, I seriously don't get this game, it's like someone took a Korean Grind MMO and removed the MMO part and made everything able to kill you in one hit, they took a game everyone hated 10 years ago and just made it way worse. I constantly feel like I've missed something big in the game, it's explained something and I've not seen it but then the game explains absolutely fuck all to you so I have no idea how I could have missed anything. I asked my friends what I might have missed and they started bringing up videos on Youtube about the copious amounts of things the game never tells you, why are there 100s of videos of poeple explaining things the game should be telling you, why isn't this game getting called out for the turd it is.

Has the world gone mad?

Basically, other games might be like being served in a 5 star restaurant, but Elden Ring teaches you how to be the chef.

Which might seem like it sucks if you had no intention or desire of ever learning how to cook.

I don't know @Matt Defis I'm starting to think you're just not Elden Ring material.

Only kidding... you don't need to know any of the stuff in those videos. Make sure you drop down into the pit at the very start, it contains a tutorial of sorts. Then just follow the golden light from the grace points, rest at every one and after a couple you'll be able to level up. If you get new weapons from the enemies you fight, try them out to see if you prefer the moveset. You will die a lot but try not to worry about it, it's part of learning the rules of the game.

Of course it might just not be your thing.

I'm level 60 and have a +7 greatsword and everything seems to take exactly the same amount to die as at the start, I've been back to the started area and nothing seems to have progressed, either progression doesn't happen through stats or I've missed something, that's basically my entire problem with the game, I constantly feel like I've missed a trick somewhere.

Sorry you made it sound like you'd just started.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. The bit you might have missed which definitely isn't clearly explained is that different weapons get better when you increase different stats. There's a table displayed in the detail screen for each weapon that shows how it scales against your attributes.

image.png.74ae5940835460f08f26cff1e1f2d1dd.png

So this weapon scales against Strength and Dexterity, but better against Strength.

Could that explain it maybe? Have you been putting points into the attributes your weapons need?

This is all bang on. The other thing I would add about the swarm of flies is that it can slow her down too which can give you an extra second or 2 to heal or cast something etc.

There's a set thing for avoiding the waterfowl thing as noted above in reading the patterns, run off when she jumps up, roll back. For her 2nd attack roll towards her then keep on that path for the 3rd iirc

edit - @NickC, you got this!

Yeah, when I beat her it was with two other summon's players and we ALL had Rivers of Blood 😂

The fight was over really, really quickly as we basically all put pressure on her and attacked simultaneously.

That's the main trick to it, just put as much pressure on as you possibly can and as quickly as you can....and err, don't ever get hit 🤣

Surely you only get invaded though if you allow it to happen (apart from obviously the 'story' invasions), it's not on by default.

I don't think I've ever been invaded. Actually that's not true I think I was invaded the very first time that I succesfully summoned, and I assume that was something lore related.

Mogh down second try. Twin Gargoyles down first go. Nothing has taken more than two attempts since I got the Fallen Beast Jaw. Utterly trivialises the game but I can't stop using it. It's easy mode and IWIN wrapped up in one neat spacebeast mandible.

I'll save a different wep for NG+..
