Surely you only get invaded though if you allow it to happen (apart from obviously the 'story' invasions), it's not on by default.

I don't think I've ever been invaded. Actually that's not true I think I was invaded the very first time that I succesfully summoned, and I assume that was something lore related.

How do you turn it on then?

I know a lot of people will balk at this idea, but for me the addition of a seal that means that you don't lose runes on death would have made the early game (before I was aware of the rune farms) much more palatable for me. It could be lore related (as with the other seals), and given as an option for the item that you pick on character creations. It could also come with negative consequences as with other seals, say perhaps you have less HP, or you only lose 10% of your runes, but they aren't dropped so you can't simply return and get them back.

Mogh down second try. Twin Gargoyles down first go. Nothing has taken more than two attempts since I got the Fallen Beast Jaw. Utterly trivialises the game but I can't stop using it. It's easy mode and IWIN wrapped up in one neat spacebeast mandible.

I'll save a different wep for NG+..

What are your stats (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence)?

Ah, having read up on it, it appears that I was slightly confused as to how it works, you can't 'turn it off' but you can only be invaded by other players (as opposed to NPC story invasions) if you have actually summoned another player, or have laid down the symbol to allow you to be invaded. So turn it off by not summoning hahaha! I suppose seeing as I summoned very little it's why I only saw it once.

Without opening hte game up I know it's 34 str (as needed to wield the jaw) dex I think is 20, int is high (48) but I don't use any spells as the R1 move is more FP efficient. Mind is 22 I think and end 15. Arcane is 12.

It's just a ridiculous weapon. I did the twin gargoyles a while back and was surprised to hear all the trouble they give people. Three R1 blats and pretty much any mob is stunned. Crit, rinse, repeat, loot. Bosh.

There are talismans that do this. White tree branch, I think? They break once used though.

Right everyone here seems to love this, my son and my friends were all raving about it so I picked it up, I seriously don't get this game, it's like someone took a Korean Grind MMO and removed the MMO part and made everything able to kill you in one hit, they took a game everyone hated 10 years ago and just made it way worse. I constantly feel like I've missed something big in the game, it's explained something and I've not seen it but then the game explains absolutely fuck all to you so I have no idea how I could have missed anything. I asked my friends what I might have missed and they started bringing up videos on Youtube about the copious amounts of things the game never tells you, why are there 100s of videos of poeple explaining things the game should be telling you, why isn't this game getting called out for the turd it is.

Has the world gone mad?

You need a hand digging out of this hole let me know dude. I'm here for you.

@David Kenny thank you, switched to a Faith based weapon and my damage has increased quite a bit.

Should have gone strength build. End of the game I was dualwielding the greatsword +25 and the grafted greatsword +10. Jump in and double smash everything, though it did make the last boss more difficult.

I think it's in my personal list of best games ever tbh.  But yeah this thread and playing alongside everyone since March has made it even more of an experience and journey.

It's been awesome.

Yes, it’s the sacrificial twig which as you say is a consumable in that it’s gone after death, so you need a few(!). My feeling is seeing as the mechanic already exists, for me it would have been nicer to have a non consumable version available from the start.

To be clear this is just a personal preference.

Should I not be in

Spoiler

The sewers under Leyndell?

I feel like I am getting absolutely wrecked down there.

No problem in the city but down below, the lobsters are fucking me right up.

The level scaling seems a bit off. Might piss off somewhere else. I’ve killed Morgott.

Eat a boiled shrimp from Blackguard in front of them. Assert yourself in the hierarchy.

may result in death and loss of all runes.

As advice to someone who is struggling to get to grips with the game's mechanics, this comes across a bit "You're doing it wrong" which is not helpful.

Faith is a perfectly acceptable build with some decent incantations and a faith-scaling weapon like the Winged Scythe or Magma Wyrm Greatsword.

Got sick of getting ganked on the steps at the end of a certain Farum, so went back and flattened Niall instead. Trundled around another snowy area, found a land of blood, murdered a lot of albinaurics, maxed out both my whips, met Mogh; one-shot him. Went back to Fia, who was asleep; met a dragon; one-shot it. Explored a town, killed some invisible people, found a giant tree, noped out of that platforming hell. Found Astel v2, that took two goes (embarrassingly got grabbed when they went mirror mode on first attempt). Went back to the bridge. Surely this should be easy now? Not quite; four goes later, the route is clear. Oh, another boss. Hello Maliketh. Nice and easy first form, let's see how the second goes...

Fifteen deaths later, I'm going to bed. Sodding Maliketh.

@Matt Defis

Well seeing as he's one of my best friends irl, I don't think he's going to find that off putting and hopefully he may give it a go if he re-rolls at some point.

I can't comment on faith or arc builds at all tbh as I've not cast one spell and don't even know myself how to do it.

I found my niche and stayed there all game.

How did you one-shot Mohg?!

One of those Shinkuu-Hadoken sorceries?

I suspect one-shot means first time rather than one hit ...though I could be wrong!

I did the double tree sentinel fight and demonic tree sentinel fights first time last night. Felt good! Also the boss at the top of the windmill village and a random tomb.  I'm clearly over levelled for Altus, it's nearly allowing me to play carefree.

Don't really want to step into the capital yet, feel like I've got loads to explore still.

Oh I reached level 100 as well! Woo.

How have you managed to get to 100 at Altus?

Quick question. I've seen a few people in this thread talking about doing Volcano Manor as a bit of a legacy dungeon, and that seems like the next place for me to tackle, but I'm not sure if...

Spoiler

people mean doing all the assassination missions for volcano manor, then following that where it leads - I have two map markers, one in the capital, and one in an area of the map I've not even been to yet, so doing the missions would mean a lot more progress elsewhere in the game.

Or do people mean pressing on in the area around volcano manor and gaining access to more of a dungeon that way?  I've been through some secret doors and found Prison Town, but not explored around there much, and I've not explored much of the surrounding area of Mt Gelmir yet.

There's a Twiggy Cracked Tear in Altus for your physick flask that prevents rune loss on death here:

It lasts for a few minutes. In the event of dying on your way back to collect your dropped runes, you can pop it before you do so. If you die again they'll still be there to collect.

I wasn't far off that when I went there. If you do all of Limgrave, all of Liurnia and all of Caelid first then you can get to level 100 without too much bother, especially if you dip into the underground areas as well. Depends how careful you are with your runes, of course.

Yep done all those areas plus the Ranni questline, so all of the underground areas as well. I've been careful not to lose runes, and also when close to levelling I use the Rune stone things to top up and gain a level.

I actually reached Altus about 20 hours ago but have been exploring other areas first. Heck I still think there are parts of the Lakes I haven't visited yet!

What's the suggested level for the Capital? I seem to have been to most places and I felt over levelled (level 90) for Altus but I am getting my ass handed to me in the Capital.

Those Knights with lightning swords are very tough!

I have my starting sword at +14 but perhaps I need to look at different options.

Loved the Capital so far - downed a couple of bosses without much hassle but I think I've got a fair bit to push through still. Just hit the 100 hr mark and I've still got so many places I've discovered to return to, let alone what else is out there. At my current pace, I think the credits will be a couple more months at least.
