I wonder if you are kind of expected to use summons etc in this game. I did summon the sorcerer to help, but he was useless. In fact it made it worse, because he died in phase one, leaving the boss with higher health.

Honestly, I would say no. The first main boss is harder than almost anything in any of the other games, IMO. Exploring is a lot more fun, and much easier than in the other games.

That made me laugh too. 

Even the intro massively took me back to the first time I played Dark Souls. I remember booting that up, had heard so much about how great it was, then the intro came on and for the first minute or so I was thinking "ho hum, just some generic fantasy gibberish, I should probably skip this..." but I carried on watching, and by the time it was finished I was thinking "Ok, maybe this is something a bit different and special..."

Turn out I was right.

If you are struggling that hard with Margit, then you are definitely rushing and have missed some well hidden but essential items/NPC questllines that make that fight a lot less one sided. Take your time. Just be in the world and look. Try to solve some of the game's mysteries and secrets, what are those falling golden leaves for example? They do something, but what? This is not a boss rush, and if a boss is blocking you then the game is trying to tell you something.

 

Enjoy these days and weeks of discovery.

I take it just focus on vigor and endurance as I'm guessing they are health and stamina?

If you have the PC version you could try this so called fix that has arisen (originally a Sekiro fix). No idea if it works but just posting it here to save people digging though reddit. I can't see how this works unless it's a polling timer/issue associated with some hardware connected to the PC.

I would also add that a lot of people are having trouble getting joypads to work. You should remove any joypad emulating software or hacks that get certain pads to work. Additionally, the game seems to be enumerating USB devices incorrectly, so try removing external USB devices if your joypad is failing.

 

I suppose USB related software could also cause this, like Logitech gaming software. It installs a virtual keyboard driver to allow custom button to key macros which could be assumed to be a joypad to a badly coded app.

There’s a button you can press in menus that tells you what everything is when you hover over it. It’ll tell you what it is down the bottom somewhere.

I don't have the game yet (later this afternoon apparently), but I reached him at the end of the last day of the beta and so I was trying to rush him down. :blush: On the one hand I kind of hoped that the open world would let me return to him later... but I'd also like to have an honest attempt when I get the full game. :)

The Icelandic for lamb is lamb, that's the Icelandic for 'the animal', cognate with German tier, Dutch dier and English deer, although confusingly in English its meaning has narrowed, referring only to big furry buggers with hooves and antlers. Felt it important to clarify.

 

In other news, this game is pretty bloody good.

Last night I got the same vibe from this as I got from Darksiders 2 when it released right before the 360 era came to an end.

From Software’s tech is done.

 They need major engine work and to ditch the PS4 gen for their next game.

 

Not a commentary on the design or gameplay of the game but to have a big game like this that doesn’t look all that special and doesn’t hit constant 60 on new gen is as bit laughable.

Damn subs have let me down there. Given how the film has panned out I’d say that title is more accurate.

Wait.. but.. but... Everything in the game so far has pointed me directly towards it! I bashed my head against it for an hour last night before giving up and resolving to explore a bit more today. First stage is no problem but I just get stunlocked into oblivion on the second stage. I died many times with several not-estus flasks left.

 

Edit: essentially yeah exactly what @kempstar said.

Have you played a souls game before?

It's all intentionally obtuse. The idea is that you will talk to other players in order to find out about stuff, from what the stats do to what's going on in the story. This kind of community-building is hard-coded into the games and its a big part of why they are so loved.
