Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

This is clicking so far. Lasted longer than the other 3 souls games I have played!

The performance is an utter joke though and souring it. It's not good enough. I would have been happy with a locked 30 in SX. Even though I usually refuse to play any action game under 60fps.

Going to give it a few hours and if I don't get used to these performance issues then it's getting shelved.

Little underwhelmed with this so far. The jarring frame rate when you spin the camera is just not what you’d expect from a AAA game and the graphics are actually pretty ugly.

It’s also open world but you can’t climb, it feels too restrictive. And the lore and writing is just about what I would expect from recent GRRM output.

I’ll stick with it but I’m not feeling the 10/10 best game ever reviews I’ve read. I just don’t feel a real compulsion to spend my day playing it.

Burn the witch!

Your results may vary depending on taste, but I wanted a 60 fps experience over anything. I've got a 48" OLED TV and the PS4 version on PS5 looks fine to me - you can enable HDR in one of the menus

Yeah, you're right. resolution bump really doesn't justify that framerate (just in the very start after opening the first room and it's juddering) Fuck that noise - 60fps is way more important over what is probably going to be 100+ hours. Weird that after putting all the effort they obviously have into it, they get to this and say "Aah well, it'll do". I mean, it is just really sloppy, isn't it?

Stop playing it then.

There are plenty of open world games with climbing and that do not have ‘ugly’ graphics.

Worked out how to call Torrent now thanks for the help last rllmuk.

So had a brief further explore this lunchtime.

Spoiler

Just levelled up again and found some weird dude who has been turned into a tree.

He mentioned some cave on the coast that I am now going to try to find and explore

This is also the longest I've lasted with a souls game. I'm really enjoying it but lets see how that goes when I finally explore a dungeon or meet a boss.

I hate to be that guy but…spoiler tags?  Not aimed at anyone in particular but it’s easy for folks’ enthusiasm to bubble over atm and before you know it you’ve seen something or read something you’d rather have discovered for the first time yourself…

Yeah.

Can we please have spoilers for images and for specific locations of things?

My one beef text size too small again even with my 55" telly.

So I'm actually sitting on the floor in front of the telly for the first time playing a game in ages.

It's like being a kid again.

Yeah, struggling with this too. I’m going to shuffle the living room around later and try the projector. It’s a faff and rules out playing in daylight though.

2 hours in and I'm still pootling about in the first area. Haven't seen anything or gone anywhere that wasn't in the network test yet as I now have to put the game down and go the pub with my missus. Will save my real exploration for later

I've decided to do a Dex/Magic build and gone with The Prisoner. Managed to level up enough to use the Flail and that's where I've stopped

Reviews said it had taken open world gaming forward, just doesn’t seem like that so far. I’ll stick with it cos it’s souls, but maybe my expectations were too high.

I did my first jolly coop in a cave. The guy summoned Toad; level 1 wretch, naked as the day he was born, club in one hand willy in the other. I bowed at him. He didn't bow back. I'd imagined him looking at me he felt like he'd asked his parents for a PS5 for Christmas and he'd just unwrapped one of those 356 games in one machines you get in dodgy electronic shops.

So he summoned again and I was followed by what looked like the actual sorcerer supreme. We went into this cave and it was like someone had dropped a match in a box of fireworks. Also in the box was a basically useless guy with a club that went around backstabbing the mobs as they were distracted by the dude firing off lights and spells and fire at a million miles a second. Sorcerer Supreme torched the entire cave without thinking and just as we (well, he) were about to claim our reward the summoner got stomped on in one hit and killed. And back we went.

I love this series. I love this game.
