Hehe. I was convinced I’d be able to spank him, but no. Every Souls game has that one tough enemy right near the start. Reminds me of my repeated attempts to kill the Executioner in Central Yarnham.

Oh, I'm gonna get him. Might take me a few (dozen) more goes, but I'm gonna get him.

This is like Skyrim. It's Skyrim Souls.

Anyway, I might have to bow out of the thread for a while. Spoilery posts are getting a bit too frequent. So far I've killed the

Spoiler

Burial Watchdog thing and the Beastman in the cave. I get the impression these guys are mini-bosses more than proper bosses, though. I've walked through the entrance to Stormgate, then that emaciated giant thing jumped down and I noped the fuck out of there. Going to look for another way around.

I'm loving the tension. Need to find the level up lady, though. I'm sitting on 9000 runes that I've had since the game began.

I hate to be that guy but…spoiler tags?  Not aimed at anyone in particular but it’s easy for folks’ enthusiasm to bubble over atm and before you know it you’ve seen something or read something you’d rather have discovered for the first time yourself…

Surely the usual Rllmuk spoiler madness is going to be pretty much impossible in a game this large and open? Nobody is going to be doing the same things in the same places wearing the same gear in the same order?

Maybe this could be one of those threads where people just talk about the game and anyone with a pathological fear of seeing anything from the game anywhere but their TV could just play the game?

Reviews said it had taken open world gaming forward, just doesn’t seem like that so far. I’ll stick with it cos it’s souls, but maybe my expectations were too high.

By now, I suspect it’s a personality thing. ;)

I have the jellyfish ashes, but how do you even use them??

I wonder if you are kind of expected to use summons etc in this game. I did summon the sorcerer to help, but he was useless. In fact it made it worse, because he died in phase one, leaving the boss with higher health.

I just equipped them so that they are accessible from down on the d-pad and then x to use.

Think they need 71 FP but I had that with a samurai starter class so you should be fine.

Ah the FP is the issue then.

Anyways, Margit sends his love. FROM HIS GRAVE.

Gosh, playing this after Forbidden West was a bit rough. Not only does it look a generation behind, but its performance mode is way less stable. The gameplay is great though. I love just going in a certain direction and not knowing what I will find. I picked Samurai and the bow is great so far.

The opening of this game is so weird. You can easily miss the tutorial. Then when in the world you can easily miss even more important info just by exploring. If you go off the beaten track at the start there are loads of enemies you can one shot. You can take down groups of those enemies with ease. Certain other enemies that do take multiple hits are no threat at all too. Yet if you go the way the game hints at from the start, which you would assume should be designed to ease people in, its waaaaay harder. Very strange design.

Welcome to a From Software game!

Hahaha. I’m not sure if it’s just poor design or some kind of crazy in-joke. One thing it’s not is more accessible! I’m sticking to the main path for now though before I try exploring again. The real Souls starts here.

I followed the path that the game literally *points* you in - and if you do that you come up against...

Spoiler

Margit, right?

That seems another level of Souls obfuscation to me. At least I don't remember being guided to anywhere quite as difficult right off the bat in the other From games I've played.

I don't think it's really a spoiler to say that, apparently, you should just buy the torch off the first merchant as they're incredibly rare and your Souls instinct may tell you that you'll find loads on your journey for free but you won't.

I don’t have a pathological fear of any such thing. I’m just saying it’s very easy to put a screenshot of an impressive vista, or of a boss say, or a description of a surprising experience in the easily accessible spoiler tags. Not much to ask.

If you’re worried about coping with acronyms, I’m not advocating that, unless of course there’s a boss that’s named “Geoff dunit!” or something ;)
