This has had a few posts in the Horrible Histories thread, but as @monkeydogsaid there, it deserves its own thread.

The six episodes of the first series are on iPlayer. They're really good; watch them!

And it's just been announced that it'll get a second series: https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2019/ghosts-return

I'd say yes. There's little to no swearing and I can't remember any sexual references or anything.

The first episode is a bit spooky (especially the creepy child) but if your kids are familiar with the HH cast that should help them through.

Honestly I'm surprised this wasn't on well before the watershed, my kids love it.

The ghost who's running around with no trousers is one big sexual reference. That's his thing! It will go over kids' heads or be easily explained away though.

The innuendo is perfectly pitched, the Politician is perfect. The visual gag had me in stitches when it clicks, and there is a hilarious Gladiators joke in there which is a great example of the age-spanning humour.

What a great show, it feels slightly old fashioned but in a good way, Really enjoyed it and glad it’s getting a second series. The politician and scout master are particular favourites. I really enjoyed the brief flashback showing what happened to him!

Don't know if it was me or the show, but took a couple of episode to get back into S2. I'm not generally used to watching things that are so BBC.  The third episode hit it's stride though.

Spoiler

Fanny's crush, Robins You Tube rabbit hole, the Colonel's secret, hide and seek

And nice little bits like

Spoiler

Ooh, numbers

Such a funny delivery of that line.

Been watching it week by week rather than binging, and it's even better than the first series.

The decision to show more of the ghosts' backstories was cleverly done.

Spoiler

Especially when they reveal another ghost that "ascended".

The pay-off for episode 4, with Julian's delayed speech on "spin" was brilliant.

It was a short but lovely Christmas treat. Definitely think that’ll be added to the annual Christmas viewing rota.

What especially made me laugh was that I called my dad after, and he said he couldn’t talk, because he was at my brother’s place, scouring out the chimney while my bro cooked dinner.

“Did he ask you to do that?” I said.

”No, I was just trying to be helpful.”

Did make me tear up a bit.

We watched the Xmas special a couple of days ago.  My wife lost her mum this year, so the little 'helping' chat from Mike's dad left her an utter sobbing wreck. We might have missed a bit but the show had cheered us up by the end.

Exactly the same situation with my girlfriend, with the exact same reaction. It really connected with both of us.

Did anyone know that they're doing a US version?

Well they are. And it has a trailer! Brace yourself...

The first I heard about a US version being made was a couple of weeks ago, when I saw that the Viking character had been cast. That made me think that maybe they were going to do a completely different set of ghosts, from different periods of American history.

But nope: it looks like they've mostly done a Find-and-Replace on the UK version's first episode - complete with the same deadly injuries and powers!

Also, one of the big advantages the UK version had, which this version won't, is that the cast had been working together for years.

That's not to say the US version can't turn out well. But it might take a few episodes, before they run out of BBC episodes to adapt, and they start writing to this cast's strengths so it can start being its own thing. I've barely seen anything of the American version of The Office, but by all accounts that only started getting good when it began to diverge from the UK series. Hopefully the same will happen here.
