Sad to say I agree. Disappointed with this season. Not as funny as previous. And a bizarrely knuckle-headed take on veganism in the last episode.

Is there a genuine reason why they decided to make Mary leave? Did the actress have other commitments to not carry on?

 

I also noticed this series seemed to make bigger use of the ghost effects when they go through objects whereas I remember with the previous series' they did this in a more subtle way without showing much of it or the lack of needing to.

Anyone else watching the US Ghosts?

 

We're about halfway through the season and enjoying it. It's a little less subtle but still fun.

Yes and would say exactly the same. It’s a decent watch and fairly quickly deviated from a plain carbon copy of the BBC version. My wife and I like it. It’s not a patch on the original and it is very American in some respects (the lack of subtlety you mentioned, there are some more serious/cheesy moments, the plot moves at breakneck speed etc) but overall it’s alright.

I saw the trailer for the US remake and it felt like a poor copy. May give it a go when I have the time.

 

The UK Christmas Special this year was lovely. Don't want to risk posting spoilers but I'm not afraid to admit that there were years tears being held back at points.

I think the US version showed me that it’s not the premise or the storylines that I actually like about UK Ghosts, but just getting 20min hammy romps with that excellent cast. 
 

The US version just has your standard sitcom actors with none of the same campiness.

Loved this year’s UK Christmas Special.

 

In two minds about starting the US version.

The US version is good and it’s an interesting example of how you can get a very different show from the same premise with a new cast and some slight  changes to the characters.

 

It’s a different type of humour and the living mains are just ciphers rather than the fully rounded characters in the UK versions. I did like the tweak that the husband tries to interact with the ghosts he can’t see, the episode where he plays D&D with them is great.

 

However a couple of the new and blended ghosts are for my money better than their UK versions; I particularly love the Viking and the frustrated founder father who struggles with the fact  his arch rival is now celebrated enough to have a musical.

 

It’s certainly worth a watch

I’m rather enjoying the US version! I think they made some really good character type decisions, like the “powerful” Norse warrior, and the sleazy “80’s Guy” is the perfect swap out for Simon Farnaby’s Tory politician.

Flower is far from the best character, but the notion that she died on acid and therefore her ghost is on a “permo” is kind of inspired.

I’ve started on the US version and I’m also in the “enjoying it for what it is” camp. It’s good enough in its own right, though not a patch on the original, and it’s interesting to see the variations on the characters and the new storylines.

 

 

 My wife’s not having it at all though, she won’t entertain watching it 😂
