It's called Realistic now.

Less HUD options, any gun will 1 shot in the head etc.

Thanks!  Can you choose ffa in that mode? Not at my machine atm

Holy shit, the campaign. Playing on PS4 on a 55" Sony OLED and it looks insane, not just the sheer scale and bombast of it all, but the subtle lighting and absolutely crazy minute attention to detail everywhere  - every level is like being in a movie. CoD campaigns are their own thing and not really comparable to much else, the way it's so story driven and linear is quite unique for an FPS. I definitely prefer this way of doing things than having a massive open map with loads of stuff to collect and side objectives. They really do go out of their way to keep it varied and interesting with different characters, weapons, gadgets and locations constantly thrown at you. I just can't help getting swept along by it and enjoying the ride. Perfect to blast through on a rainy day, not everything has to be a 50 hour epic to be worth your time.

The TV I've got has Sony Acoustic Surface - that means the entire screen is a speaker, instead of using external speakers or a sound bar. Where there is action happening onscreen is where you hear it coming from. So if there's an explosion top right of the screen, that's where the sound will be emitted from. When you're behind cover and it's being chipped away with bullets and debris flying past you and choppers flying overhead with troops screaming and shooting it sounds absolutely incredible, it's like being in the middle of the action. Never experienced anything like it.

maps are utterly sublime, even picaddilly which I thought looked dull as fuck from the videos is such a tactical masterpiece and forces a slower style of play.

Gun game is the best addition to this series ever, has the tension of pubg end game.

Nipped out and bought it on strength of this post. Best be good, Dave.

Really looking forward to playing it next week when it's downloaded.

Anyone recommend sound settings for headphones.  Can’t seem to find a headphone setting.

I can't back up my claim at the moment but I did a search earlier and apparently "BOOST HIGH" was the headphone setting in the beta so try that.

As someone with zero interest in multiplayer, what's the campaign like in this? Should I wait until it's cheaper?

I only ever play SP these days. It's the best SP COD in a long while. That said there is nothing new. It's linear, its loud. I'm having fun with it but I currently am not looking to replay it.

Multi is great so far, that drip-feed addiction of upgrading, customising and unlocking is as compelling as ever and seems really deep. Feels gnarly, brutal and visceral but like Dave White said not as twitchy and jumpy as recent CoDs. Maps are tactical and not just merry-go-round loops of endless spawn deaths, you can hold a position and plan. It's a proper military shooter again with some seriously cool gadgets and perks and no sci-fi silliness.. Not seeing any lag or unfair deaths, everything is ridiculously smooth and slick. Ace.

I think it would have had more shock value if it let you carry on as if nothing significant happened.

And the message

children are non combatants

being more ironic later on when you as a

child stab and shoot Russian soldiers.

Haven't touched campaign yet but I am liking the MP quite a lot. Ground War is basically a more concise Battlefield. The traditional Cod modes meanwhile feel free of a lot of the frustrating bullshit from some other entries so far. Definitely getting MW2 vibes, too early to say how good it is though but the gameplay is stripped back quite a bit to the more balanced pace of that era and seems to punish players who run around all the time very hard - sprinting players sound like a herd of elephants!

Well this has turned into a sodding lag fest tonight with usual Germans and Spanish winning everthing!!

why isn’t hardcore mode on FFA.  This at least minimises the lag.

The clean house mission is the one you put on when your non gamer mates come round to see what all the fuss is about.

It’s the new Silent Cartographer.

Has anyone actually managed to add anyone to the cross-platform friends list? They seem to have hidden it rather unintuitively under sub-menus and 8 don't think anything obvious pops up to tell you about a request, so no one can find my requests. Or maybe it is broken.

By the end of the night I could tell the good players had arrived, got murdered on that very confusing grezna raid map

I can’t say the campaign as a whole has been as good as Infinite Warfare’s so far but two of the missions will be added to any list of the most memorable in the entire franchise.

It helps that it looks as good as it does and for once HDR actually means HDR at launch rather than a washed out image that’s worse than with it turned off.
