Challenge the Fate That Binds You
On the planet Dahna, reverence has always been given to Rena, the planet in the sky, as a land of the righteous and divine. Stories handed down for generations became truth and masked reality for the people of Dahna. For 300 years, Rena has ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping people of their dignity and freedom. Our tale begins with two people, born on different worlds, each looking to change their fate and create a new future.

I'm up for a new Tales game. The last one I played was Xillia I believe, I enjoyed that quite a bit. Since these games are usually very long I find myself skipping a few entries before feeling the urge to play again. I wouldn't mind a little more compact entry this time.

I've played most of the ones released over here (Destiny, Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Hearts R, Abyss, Vesperia, Graces F, Xillia, Xillia 2 and Zestiria). Haven't finished Beseria yet. I prefer them to recent Final Fantasy games.

I'm going to echo most of this post. I've purchased a vast majority of tales of games that have come out in the west. My first one was Eternia on the psp, then my then gf, now missus got me to play symphonia in two player from start to finish within the first couple of months of dating. After that, tales of became a franchise that we're always giddy for the next release.

Vesperia is one of the best jrpg stories of all time, and it's not because of the plot itself, but because of how strong it's cast of characters are.

I haven't been excited for a final fantasy in well over a decade.

Played through the demo earlier with the main poster boy.

It's a beautiful looking game, no doubt about that!

The exploration, collecting loot and clustered enemies which you can choose to approach or avoid, is very much like Xenoblade Chronicles. Although the combat in this is much more dynamic with proper 3rd person positioning, jumping and evading. You can't just sit behind an enemy and wail on it. You have to keep on your toes, which i enjoyed a lot.

I'm not sure giving you a full squad of Level 25 characters with max MP (so you can spam Arts/Specials) was the best idea for a demo, but i understand they wanted to show off all the "Wow-wee!" OTT combo attack animations etc.  I'm assuming you start the game with just those two on the cover and build your squad from there?

It left me wanting more, and i'll definitely run through the demo again using a different main.

A pre-order is guaranteed.  ^_^

Demo is up on Xbox and PS. No sign of PC yet.

I'm just starting on PS5 and there is something very appealing to me about these visuals. It looks incredible. Like pen and ink over a beautiful oil painting.

No PC demo for some reason.

And yeah, very excited for this. It's beautiful by every conceivable metric.

What is the deal with these shit Japanese game names? I'm not talking about those mad shooters with obvious parody names, but stuff like this. 'Tales of Arise'. What does that even mean? It's just three words which don't make grammatical sense. 'Bravely Default' is another one. 'Project Triangle Strategy' (though I appreciate that's a working title). Are they just mistranslations?

This is part of the 'Tales' series, so it doesn't really mean anything more than any other game name really. There's been tales of bersiria and tales of zestria to name two others in the series.

Bravely default is I think a weird bit of translation because in the game's fights you can be 'brave', or just 'default' which I always thought was something that would probably have sounded better in the original Japanese but they might have equally liked the oddness of the words in English and it might be called the same.

Or are you doing a bit?

The previous 'Tales of' games have made sense, though, because the third word has been the fantasy name of the world the characters are in (I think), so 'Tales of Symphonia' are stories from that particular fantasy world, which make sense. 'Tales of Arise', however, doesn't make sense in the same way, unless the game is set in a place called 'Arise', which is stupid for other reasons.

I'm not sure why somewhere being called arise is much stupider than it being called symphonia but fair enough.
