Can anyone comment on how pop-in is on PC?  I found it pretty distracting in the PS5 demo version.

Pretty much identical. It must have been a deliberate choice by the devs but i have no idea why. Unreal engine is capable of far more than this game displays.

Isn't there an ini setting to tweak?

Not on console. What a shower! I quite fancied something a bit different to get my teeth into now that I don't have to play Destiny every second of every minute of every hour of every day quite so much these days, and was considering this game because it reviewed very well, but it looks like performance is a joke. Fuck that.

Runs perfectly on PC, is it a last gen console thing or something?

Well Microsoft's smart delivery failed miserably as I hadn't noticed it had installed the regular version plus the Series X/S version. I'd started my playthrough with the regular version and only realised this morning after around 3 hours play. I deleted the One version and the fucking save game isn't compatible between the One and Series versions 🤬

Have to say though, doesn't look in the slightest bit different playing the "enhanced" version. Still the same pop-in sadly.

I found that odd in that you get both versions of the game. It goes against the whole smart delivery ethos.

I tried the demo and the world literally pops in into existence all over the place. Rocks, grass, bushes, NPCs… Enemies seem fine.

I think the final game looks better than the demo for some reason, there was what looked like a super aggressive sharpening filter which I don't notice on the final sx game.

But yeah the environment pop-in/fade in is there.

I'm playing on Series X and there's a fair amount of pop in but I've not found it particularly noticeable or distracting. Lots of JRPGs have it so I just assumed it was a developer choice. Otherwise performance is excellent with the game looking great and running well. I agree with deerokus that it looks better than the demo did.

It's also not a Smart Delivery title, for those confused as to why you get both versions of the game.

I'm around 15 hours in now and I'm really enjoying this. It seems to be handling its central themes well and has a solid cast of characters so far. It's very much still a JRPG, but it's a good one.

I went for the fancy pants ultimate edition and for some odd reason it gives you both versions (One and Series X/S) yet the save game isn't compatible between the two versions.

I'm enjoying it, the pop in really isn't that bad, it's not as bad as that London set assassins creed, but that (on my pc) was level of detail pop in.

It really isn't immersion breaking or anything, and it only really happens with npc's that aren't important the worst. YMMV though I suppose but not playing it for that reason seems peculiar to me.

Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't notice it until it was pointed out. I mean, it happens, but it doesn't register for me. Unlike, say, some of the best environments in the business.

It's a jawdroppingly beautiful game in places.

Finished everything in it now including the postgame stuff, took 67 hours. Generally great times, though the story takes a shift about four fifths of the way through into serious anime territory, and not good anime like Ninja Scroll or Cyber CIty Oedo. It's like they were developing the game nicely, saw the fifty hour end sequence of Death Stranding where everyone just talks bollocks until their tongues fall out and suddenly thought 'we can outdo that, no problem'.

Aside from that though, good times.

I'm enjoying this, but the frame rate on Xbone X is pretty bad considering the game is nothing special to look at. I almost feel like it's been done on purpose to force me to buy a Series X :coffee:

Also did anyone else receive a pre order bonus code? I've redeemed it and can't find it in the game <_<

It's most likely under settings then "unclaimed DLC". None of the pre-order or bonus items appear in the game until you go to that section and claim them

Nah there are small frame drops even on series X if you play in Graphics mode, they're using what I guess must be a surprisingly demanding shader effect to get that lovely sort of watercoloury look, the game definitely doesn't have that typical Unreal Engine look. And an unlocked fps so it lurches around which makes it look worse than it is.

Frame rate mode on series X sorts it right out if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, which, contrary to what I said in an earlier post, is what I'd say is best to play on.

Artistically I think the game is really impressive, much better than Namco's usually somewhat cheap looking anime RPGs.

Yeah you get both versions of the game with everything. The Xbone and Series versions are separate, with their own achievements and no cross save compatibility.

Pubs/Devs have to opt in to smart delivery and it seems Arise opted out, for whatever reason.
