FIFA 20: FIFA Street is back.

Recommended Posts

Played some Volta today (offline) and it seems like a fun game type.

As for the main game, my half dozen games of rivals have been enjoyable, the beta build definitely plays better than 19.

I’ll no doubt cave in and get it preordered again for early access.

Okay, I've been a PES player my whole gaming life.  I bought every copy since PS1, and have always played Master League extensively (Career mode).  However, since the series came to PS4 generation, the games have been lacking in what used to make them special, and recently the CPU AI is seems very poor and scripted and it feels like Konami would like to push you away from single player to multiplayer with in app purchases.

So I was talking to my brother the other day who has been playing FIFA FUT for the past three years, and he thinks it's the dogs jewells.  I've always been a bit aprehensive of the mode since I'm not keen on multiplayer, and really not keen on being able to pay to get an advantage.   However, I seem to have been convinced my my brother that it's a really mode to play casually, and there is no annoying multiplayer elements to it.

I think I will always prefer PES's gameplay than FIFA's, but FIFA's has been good for the past 3-4 years I've tried it out.  PES has always felt zipper, and passing more satisfying.  FIFA has always felt sluggish and a bit easy to score.

So, can I have your opinions on FUT?  I'm after a nice chilled mode where I can play 2-3 games in the evening, and have that sense of progression that Master League has given me in the past.  I like the idea of putting together a good team of individuals and making them gel, but I'm not sure how much depth there is to all of this, and wonder whether it's a bit like 'BUY PACKS - JUST GET MESSI AND RONALDO FTW'?

I'm not even going to bother with PES's version of FUT since the netcode has always been awful, and the presentation of the mode looks a bit lacking.

In my personal opinion, going from my experience of FUT in F18 and F19, the more time you can put into the game, the more you will get out of it in terms of rewards.

2/3 games a night might get you by on Single player modes like Squad Battles, but if you want to do the online leagues such as Rivals, where the more points you earn, the higher the division and rank you get, thus equalling better packs or coins to win, then 2/3 games a night might not cut it. Plus with the Weekend League, which was 40 games lowered to 30 games from Friday Morning until Monday Morning you really need to hit that hard.

Or you buy packs.

Depends how much you want those top rated cards and how much of a disposable income you have.

Of course you can also dabble in the market to try and trade your way up, but thats a whole thing in itself that also requires good knowledge of the games played not only in UK but around the world, and some luck.

Anyone tried the Fifa 20 demo?

I found Volta to be fun and I think this will be a great mode to play when the lads are round after a few tinnys.

The demo Champ match that it allows you to play though....Personally I think looks worse than Fifa 19 graphically, the players look like poor wax works and the movement around the pitch seems to go from stiff to OTT.

I was Chelsea and had Abraham running into the box, he gets tackled and I'm still holding run and try to swing round to get back down the pitch and hes moving in this ridiculously wide arc as if he's on a BTTF hoverboard.

Defending seemed ok against the computer, but I could huge gaps in the line that a real player will be able to pick apart. Also defending a free kick seemed harder, with the 5 that took place, the AI managed to get 3 of them into the player in the box.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

You know how in FIFA 19's The Journey (well, if you played it), Alex Hunter goes down the negative road of surrounding himself with an entourage, obsessed with marketing his image? And how Danny Williams is just there trying to relax and have a normal bit of fun playing some football that just happens to be the Champions League?

Well, Volta is what happens if nobody slaps Hunter across the face until he wises the fuck up. It's absolutely dripping with an obsession with image to its own detriment. it's fun but it'd be more so if it lightened the fuck up.

Yeah I see that.

I love how these big corporate companies think "Street" is, they must send out a few teams to research it, analyze their collected data and then say nah needs more luminous colours, spray paint, tags, baggy clothing and gansta vibes. Ram it up to 11!

I know fifa has died a sad death on this forum over the past few years but I'd like to put my 2 cents out there.

I've had a few games of the trial mainly in pro clubs drop in sessions and whilst it does still have some issues it does feel like a step forwards rather than a step backwards like recent years.

It feel's a bit more realistic, the power in passes / shooting requires a bit more care, your positioning when you play a ball is a bit more important. No more magically pressing the through ball and it goes through 100% of the time, if the positioning of the defender is in the way of the ball it will literally hit them.

It feel's slower and like there will be less goals, short passing play will become a bit more useful I think and there seems to be a reduction in issues that try to 'level' the playing field, one notable point is the fact crappy defenders always used to be able to catch highly rated strikers, that seem's less of an issue now.

It's a tougher game to play now but I think it is not down to it being rubbish etc it's down to requiring a little bit more skill and me playing once every couple of weeks and still scoring a fair few goals won't be the case now. I think the more time you put in will mean you will see the results in game, results etc

One thing that will really hinder the pro clubs team will be players who spam the pass button calling for an ai pass, it will more likely than not go to an opposition player unless your in a good bit of space.

I'm enjoying it so far

I dunno, this feels very same old, same old.

Players not passing to who you ask them to, the computer refusing to switch to who you want, opposition players need to be tackled 3/4/5 times in attack due to rebounds, fouls not being called, players taking an unnecessary touch before passing leading to being tackled/runner being offside, a sea of opponents all sticking 7 in their area and hoofing it long to spam long shots from 40 yards that your keeper palms away instead of catching... leading to them scoring from a near post header off the resulting corner...

I'll respond cuz I like you Pants and now I feel like i've cost you money ^_^

Players not passing to who you ask them to - Personally not had this issue

the computer refusing to switch to who you want - Use the right stick rather than L1 (auto switch)?

opposition players need to be tackled 3/4/5 times in attack due to rebounds, fouls not being called - I thought the first issue was new? I don't recall the bumblingness on the last game? Fouls not being called is just like real life then isn't it?

players taking an unnecessary touch before passing leading to being tackled/runner being offside - Which game mode? Generally the ai does do this more now but that's because if the pass isn't taken in the right place it will just hit the opposition and rebound

a sea of opponents all sticking 7 in their area and hoofing it long to spam long shots from 40 yards that your keeper palms away instead of catching... - Not sure how you could correct this anyways? The keeper wouldn't be able to catch a 40 yard screamer in real life, the odd's are they would have to push it away. So the alternative is preventing players being able to shoot from too far out?

Mate! You haven't cost me any money, it was entirely my choice to buy it. Please don't feel bad.

Use the right stick rather than L1 (auto switch)? - I do use it, and it might be that I'm shit at player swapping, but I'd like a feedback system to show me why it doesn't work, or what I'm doing wrong. Same with player passing - PES has (or at least used to have) an arrow that showed you who you were going to pass to and who you were about to select of defence.

opposition players need to be tackled 3/4/5 times in attack due to rebounds, fouls not being called - I thought the first issue was new?  - It was a massive issue last game! And one of the reasons I stopped playing in about November I think,. I seem to remember there was talk of it being patched out after that though.

players taking an unnecessary touch before passing leading to being tackled/runner being offside - Which game mode? -Ultimate Team

Long shots - In real life, 9 times out of 10 a player at full sprint lashing a 40 yard shot sees it fly into row z. And most of the time when it does go on target, the keeper will catch it.

In the game it's a way for opponents to get a corner, and then try the near post corner thing which has been in the release build of the last three fifas.

So to stop this, they could make it easier to intercept long hoofs from defenders, OR have shots from 25 yards + at full sprint be wildly inaccurate, OR have the keepers far more likely to catch more shots from 25+ yards.
But... this isn't real life! It's a game that should be fun. They're never going to simulate real life football because they don't have 90 minute matches.

Aha maybe i'm too nice, I should feel less guilty when it comes to our battlefield group, most of them *cough* @kerraig UK & @KriessG are arseholes *cough*

Have you tried turning the fifa trainer on? There's an option that let's you select direction only I think (or at least there was on the last game), going back to the bumbling about of the ball, we had a few minor issues but I don't think it was quite like this one. It feel's like you can muscle your way through on this game which I never felt on the other (it would bounce off a player and magically end up at one of their teammates feet for example but you couldn't bulldoze your way through)

Maybe because I'm more focused on clubs and your focused on ultimate team we are getting very different experiences ^_^ You obviously have to play them very differently.

So, when are we having a 1v1? (I'd have to set up an UT first though :D )

WHATEVER PRICK.

I forgot about the trainer, I'll stick that on see if it helps.

1v1 in normal mode any day mate. Brum v Millwall. Clash of Titans.

What has happened to the commentary in this, used to be decent but feels repetitive now (my first game as Arsenal they were talking about how Arsene Wenger loves playing 2 up top) and the co-commentator sounds like well known Yorkshire cricket thicko Darren Gough

Theres a new option too in the settings to change the selection from Player to Ball, found this helped me when I need to select the correct CB.

Also with regards to the passing, might be the same issue that I find it extremely annoying where it will always pass forwards, even though I am aiming downwards on the stick.

But its still better than F18 and F19.

You can download Brazilian Portuguese from the audio settings menu, as I discovered while trying to turn the commentary off.

BorasLegend (best Youtuber from the last couple of years) has a new passing tutorial. Hopefully it helps us all out!
