I'm not sure. Everything about it feels like the devs started making the above mentioned Modern Tomb Raider-like game featuring the Avengers before higher-ups stepped in and they were forced to Frankenstein what they had into a GaaS somehow - using an unsuitable engine. I suspect the devs sre doing the best they can with a game that's basically unfixable at this point.

As has been said earlier, the post mortem should be very interested if it ever appears.

Yes sorry, when I said ‘of their own making’, I didn’t really mean the devs themselves, just whoever it is who’s making the decisions on this game in regards to release. I’m sure the state it was in must have been known, but someone made the decision to kick it out the door anyway.

I wonder if the debacle will be enough to make it a blip on Disney’s radar as with Star Wars Battlefront 2? At the moment if feels like it’s had much less publicity both in terms of marketing and press coverage following its condition after release.

I think it’s insane that so many years after Destiny developers are still underestimating how much content you need to try to rip off Destiny. And we’re still seeing the ludonarrative dissonance of nobody being able to construct a story that justifies repeating missions.

That was more about the badly implemented loot box crap which generated a lot of bad press for Disney and EA so they had to act. The actual game was fine with no real game breaking bugs, so it was quickly patched to remove the store stuff.  The game and its community, is still going great.

This seems to have been left to quietly die which is a shame as the potential is clearly there.

I still a bit bamboozled that the developers idea of the first two DLC characters people would be super excited to get out of the entire Marvel roster are Female Hawkeye and then Male Hawkeye,

Apart from the obvious side of yet another aspect of them being able to reuse assets, I think maybe part of this was to get around another flaw with the game- you can’t have more than one of each character in a multiplayer game. So when they release a new character, barely anyone will be able to play them in multiplayer because, of course, everyone wants to try out the new superhero.

This would have at least slightly alleviated that, but god knows what they would have done on releasing other characters. And now I think there’s going to be a much bigger gap between the two Hawkeyes anyway.

It's like they were developed for the main game and then were cut at the last minute or something.

What makes it even worse is that although this was most likely the original plan, they couldn’t even manage to pull that one off, as they barely managed to get the game functioning with the original six release characters. Likewise with adding content to the game- again, it’s most likely the idea was to hold back content for post-release so the promised continuing story would evolve at a decent pace against the current barebones content.

It’s ironic that at one stage they said something like ‘you’ll be surprised at how fast we release new superheroes’.

If they'd actually wanted to consider a narrative stream rather than monetising the living shit out of it they could have easily put 4 alternative universe characters in so you could play as 4 of the same character. And even then you could go deep on shit people don't care about. Spider-Man on the PS4 had so many costumes a lot of people had never heard of, so you could have had Joe Fix It Hulk, Professor Hulk, Old Man Logan Banner that's an old man but has all of the Hulk's strength, Devil Hulk and so on. I mean who wouldn't want the be Frog Thor or Beta Ray Bill?

But no, the game want thought about in the way, just how much money they can make from a retro fitted action game made GaaS

Yeah for a game that's all about dat monetization, it's incredible how badly they dropped the ball on skins. With loads of fan favourites readily available, like Devil Hulk and Beta Ray Bill as you say, they instead went with slightly different color variations of a handful of boring skins. Black Widow in a street jacket, Thor in an everyday shirt. Hulk in body paint but not the exact body paint you remember from House of M - so why bother? It's obviously inspired by that story arc yet the body paint is too different - why not match it exactly? And why then a dozen or so colour variations on that wrong body paint design?

There a few fan favourites in there but with over 60 years of different fan favourite looks to choose from simply by copying the comic books, there should have been hundreds.

Edit: I mean, even Red Hulk who is literally the Hulk but red. It's yer basic Mortal Kombat ninja palette swap - even he's not in there.

I really expected this game to be down to £20 by now. Guess they're holding out for Xmas present buys before dropping it.

Usually they tanked their games sometime between a month or two after release, which means they're nearly there. Although Bethesda used to do the same and now their games are taking longer to do so. Christ only knows. Maybe there aren't that many excess copies floating about so they don't need to, which means they knew going in about all the problems. Guesswork and hyperbole I know.

I would imagine probably this, which is why they’re still keeping the pretence of ‘we’ve got so much more content coming’ for now, before quietly pushing the game under the carpet.

I think the biggest shame is very shortly you’ll hardly be able to play the game in multiplayer at all, since they’ll be no players to match with. I’ve never known a game be so difficult to find players for at release- I’ve never managed to find three other humans to join a single game with, and that was using the quick match option, let alone choosing a mission that would actually allow me to further my progress in the game.

The single player AI is crap, to the point where they’ve only just managed to patch in that it actually bothers to do anything to further mission objectives other than just ‘kill enemies’. So very soon, the game will become even less fun to play than it is already- I feel very sorry for anyone getting the game beyond this point.

Even then though, if you have eight characters two of them being Hawkeye is weird.

Not weird if you're a) incompetent b) have paymasters who want all the money and c) change your dlc with actual game content, all of which is what I think is true.

Kate Bishop shows some modicum of understanding the fanbase bit I'd say Barton was supposed to be in the main game and she was dlc, but they both got moved because of time/greed/idiocy/other.

It's very telling that Clint has a locked room on the main deck like the other Avengers, Captain Marvel doesn't and she's explicitly mentioned in the campaign while Clint isn't I believe.

I really wanted this to be good you guys :(

Yeah, had my fill of button mashing against robots. I'm not that far in either.

Keep playing if you want to experience fighting against three quasi famous Marvel villains in between all the identikit robots.

Oh wait, one is in the intro and the other is relatively early on. Still, there's a bona fide third one at the very end!

As soon as Daredevil is in, so am I, however this game is likely to be dead long before they get to the likes of him unfortunately.

I can see this being dead on all but Playstation by early next year, and maybe a month or so after Spidey comes out for Playstation.

Lol, I was further than I thought... Just finished. (Campaign). I didn't hardly touch side missions. Oh hang on, something else is happening.  So what's this Shield Faction Mission Chain? Worth carrying on?

Not sure I'm that keen to be honest, will probs sell on.

It’s pretty much dead on PlayStation already, matchmaking is still rubbish and I’ve still never managed to find three human players in a single game, and even then they’re different power levels to me so it’s either very easy or frustratingly hard.

I doubt that Spidey will ever make it in the game- there’s no mechanic in there for even slowing enemies down, let alone having some kind of web effects, and I just don’t see how they’d even begin to add something like that on this house of cards. The game is already a total shambles, adding more stuff like that is going to just create more issues and make it even more unplayable.

It’s more missions of exactly the same type you’ve already been playing, kill robots, smash certain equipment, capture points on the ground etc.

It’s worth doing if you want to see how the heroes new skills pad out, since you’ll barely be anywhere on their skill trees just be completing the campaign. Otherwise, you’re pretty much done- there’s not really any more story content, apart from the odd character mission which doesn’t really add much.

I think he'll be very like Black Widow with her grapple/counters (and movement) and webshooters replacing the guns.

Absolutely, but they wouldn’t be able to get away with his web slinging powers just being directly analogous to guns- you’d have to give him the ability to be able to impede movement at the very least with some attacks, if not tie enemies up in webs entirely.

I just can’t see how on Earth they’d be able to add anything like that to the game. It’s barely functioning in its cobbled together fashion right now- you get enemies floating in mid air after being juggled, some enemies just standing there with no AI, enemies just vanishing altogether with their icons there but no other trace of them etc. If you add new stuff like that into the mix, it’s going to fall apart more. Not to mention that web effects will mean NEW ASSETS which the whole game appears totally allergic to.

Unless they do a story that Spidey gets transferred into Black Widow’s body so that they’ll just have to do a reskin of her character, and that’s that...
