One thing I was impressed by was that it looked very smooth. I couldn’t detect any slowdown despite the very impressive draw distance, the scenery, physics etc.

I thought views in the first game were jaw dropping but this one ups the ante somewhat with the sheer height of everything.

All I can say is thank goodness Advance Wars Reboot Camp is out in April to bridge the gap until this comes out.

I hope the wood is 60fps, just the wood - rest of the game solid 30…

Ten thousand aspiring YouTubers just saw an opportunity for a new career in Zelda daily content.

That enemy that blew Link off the floating island can already fuck off.

I mean, if you’re gonna stand right on the edge when barn-door-fan guy is wafting your way…

I noticed that these Construct dudes (who were glued together by the same green energy as your fuse /Ultrahand powers) dropped “Zonai charges”, and the air fan engines had battery symbols. So I assume the zonai charges are green energy consumables to keep your machines etc. running longer, like stamella meals for Link.

My biggest complaint is the unrealistic physics. After falling from that height and hitting the water at that speed, Link should have exploded into a red mist, showering the area with his insides.

Shame on Nintendo, really thought they were gonna do things properly this time.

You've got the wrong game - you're thinking of Legend of Zelda: Smears of the Kingdom.

Where as I still think BOTW looks amazing on the Wii U, let alone on Switch (my Wii U is still hooked up just for BOTW) so I’m quite happy with how TOTK looks.

That's one of the stupidest thing I've ever read. There's not even any content in it other than "the graphics are bad"

It's a Forbes 'contributor' piece. They do it mainly for exposure, are unpaid or paid pennies and is generally for writers who won't be commissioned elsewhere (apart for the other contributor scam places Business Insider, Inc, Entrepreneur).

So it's hard to take any of it seriously.

Maybe they need to get their eyes tested, or I do, because they criticise draw distance along with everything else. And I realise it’s careful art direction but you could see for the whole land right to the ocean, it looked immense.

I mean on a technical level yes something like Horizon throws around more polys etc. but you never get those kinds of views.

It looks like a Ghibli movie brought to life, just like BoTW did, and the graphics serve the game.

I dunno sometimes I just think art and videogame journalism/nerdism aren’t a good match.

TLDR bloody imbecile

For what it's worth, I was pleasantly surprised by the demo yesterday. It really looks like a proper sequel to BotW and I can't wait to explore the map and sky islands. It'll be interesting to see how creative minds will use the new abilities like Fuse to come up with insane devices and OP weapons.

I think it's rather likely that this will be the last major 1st party release for the Switch but it seems like it'll be a worthy swansong for the system.

I didn't mind the shrines in BotW but I did miss the lack of classic Zelda dungeons so here's me hoping for the return of 'proper' dungeons.

They certainly took the pleas for a 'Super Zelda Maker' in their own way.

I'm excited. If it's a playful toolbox, great. I'm trusting that it'll have meat beyond the tinkering mechanics though as the story and world is the heart of Zelda for me.

My one hope is that the added mechanical richness doesn't make returning to play BotW feel comparatively restricted.

I've never quite understood buying game-specific themed consoles or accessories.  Don't you feel like a mug playing a different game on it?

I've always thought this, since my Groundon GBA days

Graphically it looks dodgy for about 10 seconds (the start of the video on the horse was a bit ouch), but then your eyes adjust and start to appreciate the art direction over the resolution and textures.

… why?

I love the world - I want to see how it’s changed. What people have been up to. What’s been rebuilt… what the castle looks like now… how are the gerudos getting on? What’s my man Sidon up to…

Reading gamers who think this looks like dlc is so dispiriting. I'm coming from a different perspective granted but all I see are the insane amount of man hours that must have been poured into this. The gameplay mechs alone shown off in that trailer point to such a bewildering amount of gotchas vs intricate design production that it would make most devs outright scrap 90% and just concentrate on shiny graphics.

What's most crap is that for forever people have trotted out the gameplay trumps gfx mantra, yet time and again that's proven false and this is the best example so far. Anyway, the game looks absolutely marvelous imo, even if still sharing the same baseline art style. That's really what most of the people who aren't impressed are moaning about. Nintendo surely have a lot of new art assets which they'll show off in a later trailer or people will discover for themselves.

I think it looks as good as Breath of the Wild, which still looks great. Certainly looks nicer than XBC3 to my eye. I was a bit worried that the longer draw distances due to being up so high would end up making it look a bit fuzzy compared to the first one but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Regardless, we’ll also be able to play the remastered version on Switch 2 (£59.99) when that comes out.

I’m torn between buying an oled Switch or a bog standard one to play this. I think I played nearly all of the first one docked and don’t think I can handle spending £300 on a bloody switch in 2023. I’m also tempted to wait to see how it runs on Steam Deck.

Buy the OLED, don’t even think about it. It’s a bigger upgrade than you might imagine, in many ways.

Oh and Steam Deck? Best thing out there right now imo, but the screen can’t hold a candle to the OLED.

I used to play docked mostly as well, nowadays it’s an even split.

No because different games don't even work it. But it plays the specific game in 4k.
