Wall Jumping

Did Buster Busts Loose have it too... ? :(

nah as Monkichi 2.0 said you can only run up the walls, buts its still cool.

Both Tiny Toon games (Buster Busts Loose and Busters Hidden Treasure) were class games. Shame about the sequels though.

And they both remained top of the SNES/MD charts for several weeks in '93.

this thread has made me want to go out and run round jumping into and off walls. its so much fun, as long as you get it right :(

It really is more fun than is should be, especially in NES Batman and NES Ninja Gaiden.

I thinks it's only possible in real life if you have great speed, strength and reflexes. So that cuts me out then.

Also, no matter how fit you are I doubt it could be done repeatedly.

when i were a lad, we used to do it all the time to reach a wall mounted basketball hoop that was otherwise too high to dunk, since we were all too short :)

had to jump up the wall then push off backwards and upwards from the wall to get high enough. it wasnt quite mario 64 levels of great jumping, but it was fun!

"Wall kicks will work"

Sould be a mandatory feature of all platform games - an amazing move.

Sadly, its never been implemented as well as in Mario64. In that game you could wall kick off any verticle surface - even the thin edges of the floors that jutted out above you, making for some incredible shortcuts. You could even wall kick from a 'cartwheel jump'.

It could be used to gain 'height' - i.e. you could wall-kick off a wall and turn mid-air back toward the wall to get up on the ledge above it.

Whoever wrote Mario Sunshine didn't truly understand the physics of the wall kick used in its predecessor, and you couldn't do the aforementioned move. Also, only certain surfaces allowed you wall kick (obvious, forced ones that demanded the manouver).

It's a similar situation as I-Ninja and the 'wall running' - you can only do it on certain surfaces. A bit of a come-down after Prince of Persia's 'run anywhere' feature.

To summerise - Wall Kicks. Brilliant.

Should be fundemental to any 3D platformer.
