Has anyone tried the Favourites script?

https://github.com/wizzomafizzo/MiSTer_Favorites

I just tried this, seems quite handy and simple to use.

Also installed the gamesmenu script which parses all your none arcade games and creates a menu to launch games direct from the main menu without having to load the core first.

Yikes, this thing is expensive and that's without customs/import duty.

It is expensive.

But as someone who was in the market for a PC Engine and Famicom plus SD solutions / applicable mods, it was pretty easy for me to rationalise it as a bargain.

The DE10 Nano board was about £130 shipped from Digikey only a year ago though, with a 4-6 week lead time. Mouser currently sell them for 'only' £208.44, but with a much longer potential wait.

Works well for console games, except Neo Geo, but I'm finding it creates another MRA for arcade games, and when I load them any dip switch changes etc aren't carried over. Sort of defeats the purpose if you're playing a game, add it to favourites and need to configure it somewhere else!

I'll look into the file format and see if there's a solution.

Ordered - shipping end of the month! Nice. In terms of the arcade cores, do I need to source any specific ROM sets?

Yeah, to simplify things so it doesn't get into info overload.

Once you've built your Mister, I'd use the SD card that comes with the DE10-Nano
Run Mr. Fusion on it to install the Mister Project to it.
Before anything else then get and run the update_all script

This will fetch you all the Arcade roms and all the Bios files you need for all (I think) the cores, or at least a lot of them.

Then - IMO - get some USB storage device, like a big USB stick and put your console /computer game ROM files on it. Makes it easier than trying to remove the SD card out the DE10

Cheers. I've already got a few spare SATA drives laying around doing nothing.

Even easier to just store everything on a large SD and SSH to it

Does anyone know if the trackball and paddle controllers that got released alongside the Egret II work with MiSTer?

I own that controller and the arcade stick and a MiSTer. Unfortunately there’s only partial compatibility. In my experience pretty much none of the buttons work. The spinner works with Arkanoid with a script, but the trackball doesn’t. Apparently the buttons identify weirdly which is the problem. The same problem exists when plugging into a PC.

That's a shame - just found this, though. https://wereallgeeks.wordpress.com/2021/05/12/usb-spinner/

I know @dataDave was pondering using an Arduino to go into an arcade stick for the MiSTer. May have to investigate.

That’s right. I got a MadCatz fight stick in the end (the white one with the artwork, not the TE). I just need to get all the bits sorted next. However I’d probably prefer to get a matching one so I can do two at one time. My mother-in-law is lugging my TE with her in February, at least.

For the finishing I’m probably going to airbrush them and then give a triple coating of automotive clear coat. I can’t decide on white vs. blue or white vs. black.

Outrun finally has a beta release: https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/tree/master/mister/outrun/releases

I can't seem to get it working, so if anyone smarter than me can work it out, please comment on how!

Worked without much effort for me. I just ran update_all.sh (and then had to run it again, ensuring I'd enabled the option to download arcade roms - which I guess changed when update_all recently updated). Then it worked as normal. I am a Jotego sub though, so I might have a beta key or something.

While I have gotten the game to work in that it boots everytime I load it, I've only had it stable enough to make a decent run twice. I got one of them on camera and just failed to reach the the end (see spoiler). I managed to reach the end off camera on the second run .

Spoiler

See example of jst one of the issues I'm having at about the 2:40 mark.

What I'm experiencing with this are lockups and other weird things like "game over" as soon as I start, weird colours, lines across the screen, main car disappearing and other strange things. I know it's a beta & to expect problems, but it's almost unplayable for me because of the crashes. It seems as Jotego knows about them, he has said something about the MiSTer framework not liking the fact that this core is running at 100mhz, this will be halved once a frame buffer is introduced.

I'm now thinking that Jotego should have held off on releasing this. Thankfully, I have the Saturn version so I'm not really bothered by this at the moment. But I can imagine that people without a Saturn and who were waiting patiently for this are going to be a little disappointed.

Didn't see anything this serious, but I did see lots of graphical and sound glitches. So I pretty much played one race then figured I'd check it out again in a few months time.

Here's a pic of the starting line I took just  a few moments ago. I've also heard the audio glitches. It will be interesting to see how many people can get this to work without too many issues. Still, it is an early beta and Jotego says there will be another beta release once he's got the frame buffer working.

Mine's nowhere near that bad. Mostly just layering of sprites (some seem to pop through the horizon).

I have seen people on Patreon say that playing at 1440p causes major issues. I'm 1080p.

I decided to have another play with OutRun, only this time I recorded some of the errors that I have seen. Everything from little glitches in trackside objects, the Ferrari disappearing momentarily, to the "Mario Kart Rainbow Road Special" track.

I'm not seeing anyone on Jotego's Discord mention anything like this. However, despite being a Patreon of his I've never fully registered on his Discord channel so I'm sure there's lots of chat I'm not seeing. I can't believe I'm the only person seeing things like this. Is anyone else seeing issues similar to what is highlighted in the video in the spoiler? I'm running the MiSTer at 1080p, just as @Dr_Daveis. Part of me is tempted to draw Jotego's attention to it, but at the same time I'm not sure if it's worth it knowing that the core is being reworked to introduce a frame buffer & lower the clockspeed of the core. Any thoughts & opinions are welcome!
