The action is pretty poor but otherwise this is great.

Spoiler

Leia

is pretty spot on I think, exactly how that character would be at that stage. This is fleshed out more in part 2 and even has Obi Wan commenting on how they don’t seem like their age, which they take as a compliment.

Also in part 2 there’s an excellent bit of misdirection where you think Obi’s comparing

Spoiler

Leia with Anakin, but he’s actually thinking of the Mandalorian woman he was in love with.

I thought he meant

her mum?

Also, otherwise great and I agree the characterisation felt pretty spot on, except the actor struck me as a bit younger than the supposed 10 theyre meant to be. But then I dont know much about kids so maybe my barometer is just off.

Also

Spoiler

a part of me was slightly disappointed they didnt do a John Wick, where the photo was posted and it turned out every single person in the city is a part-time bounty hunter. :D

Me too.  Maybe it's uber nerd points at stake for anyone who thought it was

Spoiler

Satine?  I guess it could work for either Padme or Satine?

Have 10 Uber Nerd points, @Darren

Oh yeah, that probably is who he meant!

I’ll hand in my fan club badge and blaster…

Spoiler

He definitely meant Padme as he had that moment of reflection on the parents Leia will never know right before learning Anakin is alive.

Really enjoyed this. The previously on sequence for the first episode was the best prequel we’ve had, so it was off to a strong start.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this. I quite like the woman hunting him, seems to be really ruthless and I like that so far

Spoiler

It's not about Luke

Yeah, totally this. It made several scenes from the movies carry more weight than they have any right to.

Also really enjoyed it apart from a few clearly necessary plot contrivances…

Spoiler

Leia getting chased twice and making it a challenge for people to catch her. I have a 5 year old son and even on my worst day I can snatch him by the scruff of the neck within seconds no matter how determined he is to get away. Those chases were awful.

How weak and vulnerable Obi-Wan seems to be at the moment. I get why it’s the case but almost immediately putting him into high risk situations where him surviving requires the bad guys to be inept takes some of the shine away from what is an otherwise excellent start.

It feels like it could be building toward something really great so fingers crossed it delivers.

Oh, did anyone catch if they ever addressed the obvious issue with his name?

I know he's all like 'Obi-who? Never heard of him - I'm Ben'......

Yeah, OLD BEN KENOBI, WE KNOW. Presumably so would anyone in the empire, not exactly keeping a low profile. Is Kenobi just meant to be like the SW equivalent of Smith?

If it isn’t Mark King from Level 42 I’m not interested.

The episode can feature Vader, Leia and Luke and be called "Running in the Family"

This is the second show I’ve watched tonight with a “recap” that’s edited and scored like a 3 minute trailer and although I’m sure it saves some money from the ad budget it just looks and sounds so cheap.

I’m going to resist the urge to live post this even though it feels like the kind of show that needs it, but: that was some hilarious shaky-cam in the cold open. Just not even moving around, bad guy comes in and it just starts waving around on the spot.

Er... I thought these two episodes were quite poor. I like some of the story ideas, but the execution of pretty much every aspect is clumsy and unexciting at best, and at times woeful. The action is unbelievably bad.

The first Jedi the Inquisitors track down escaping because he runs away after pulling down a piece of tent. Leia's Home Alone level chase scene through the woods, where the bad guys do their utmost to not catch up with her before legit falling over themselves. Inquisitor lady's wacky Crouching Tiger bounce around the rooftops that, despite starting at best a couple of hundred yards away, fails to get her to Obi-Wan who has all the time in the world to casually escape.

"Your fear betrays you"

Fuck offffffff... come on, give us something new. Yes we all got the reference, Jeez.

Why would Obi-Wan be out of practise? If he's dedicated to looking out for Luke he should be on the top of his game. Why would kidnapping Leia bring "too much attention" to the Organas? Nobody's going to arbitrarily question whether she's actually their kid just because she's been kidnapped. Lazy plotting that only does the job of making things happen because they have to.

It's just so half-arsed.

Finding it hard to disagree with all of your comments. I enjoyed it but...

Spoiler

...disappointed that they've gone with the Obi-wan is out of practise schtick. It feels cheap and purely for plot reasons and to introduce peril. I understand that he cannot or doesn't want to use the force for fear of detection, but the fact that someone as capable as he would lose it like that doesn't feel right.

When luke catches up with him years later in A New Hope, he is clearly still a very powerful Jedi, strong with the force and still capable of taking on Vader. Maybe it's just me but I would have prefered a very powerful Obi-wan chosing not to use his powers to stay hidden rather than losing his skill.

Or wherever, I don’t really care. Just some unassuming character/world-building stuff would be nice. Obi Wan taking a shit in the sand or something.

There’s definitely a fan edit of the first episode just featuring Obi Wan chilling in his cave, occasionally taking a shit while his space camel looks the other way, then digging up his stash of Razzle magazines at the end there.

The artificial shaky-cam randomly added in this is legit making me motion sick. What on Earth?

They couldn’t go 30 minutes without giving us the significant origins of a mundane background prop from the original movies. :(
