I’m too scared to start this.

Can someone just confirm…are we looking season 1 quality or season 8?

More like season 2 - lots of characters introduced quickly… takes a while for you to care about any of them

Worst day for night shooting I’ve ever seen. You’d think it was set in an eclipse.

When they all started sharing silent glances at each other I genuinely thought that’s what was happening. Some sort of omen.

I watched from an official source, the lighting was really weird. I assumed it was my shit tv.

Felt like maybe the

Spoiler

Volcano

Off that other fantasy show had blown in.

Spoiler

The dragon riding bit felt like it was going a bit flight of the navigator at one point.

Still a great episode and I am glad the little prick lost his eye.

The night stuff was indeed really badly done. I also can see passed the white wool dreads. Terrible.

It's also really weird the way they are using st Michael's mount. They keep doing panning shots with the background out of focus , but you can see it's Cornwall , then in other shots it's CG with a different coastline

Minor gripes though I'm enjoying it

Much better episode this week, stuff's finally happening!

Also (episode spoiler)

Spoiler

I thought damn Raenira is cold blooded when she sanctions her husband's killing, so it was a nice surprise to see she did care for him after all at the end.

Can someone do me a dragon count, its hard to keep track of who has what. Damon has a dragon, Rhenera has a dragon, and now the queen's son has the epic dragon, is that right? Plus there are some others, have we seen any more? They said at one point there were still 9 or 11 or something still alive, as well as a rogue one which is faffing around across the sea. Don't fancy Sea Lords chances with no dragons, but now he'll ally with the queen because of Rherena's misdeeds so they've got one at least.

I really thought one of the kids was going to die, that was a good scene.

One thing I miss from GOT is the spooky supernatural elements. It was always a good contrast having them hop over the wall from time to time to remind you there's some scary shit out there. I wonder if we'll see any proper magic or anything like that later on in the show (dragons aside).

How many episodes do we think the king is going to last? I reckon he'll hold out now until the end of the season and it will finish with him popping his clogs to set a cliffhanger for next season.

Thought the dragon CGI was good this episode, they conveyed a nice amount of weight to the big boy.

spoilered just in case of info on number of dragons, but there’s a lot comparatively.

Spoiler

I think someone did a count of the known ones and it’s about 18, but there’s likely more.  Most of the children of both sides end up with dragons iirc, though a bunch of them are hatched as the children are born to bond with them, so several don’t end up that large.  Most of the dragons end up on the side of Rhaenyra/Daemon as they have more adult riders and the Velaryons are dragon riders, and there’s a bunch of wild ones which get named, which I hope we see as one is supposedly now as large if not larger than Balerion the Black Dread, the largest of the dragons that came over to Westeros.

regarding your question about the king - bear in mind I know what happens but I won’t spoil specifics here.

Spoiler

I think he’ll pop off on episode 9, which will in turn will have some stuff to kick off in the aftermath, and episode 10 will be the tidying up to set up season 2,

Add me to the poorly shot first half hour of viewing, it was almost like watching with a filter on to demonstrate what cataracts look like. Viewing via a Sky HD box with no HDR or 4k.

Second half was great though, they really are going to town establishing the depth of the resentment between the 2 sides in this

We watched on a 55" OLED and turned all the lights off (only show we watch together and the only show we do this for!) and had absolutely no issues with the darker scenes at all.

Dragons:

Spoiler

I don't think there are that many of them.  Pretty sure the dragon riders are Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, Aegon, now Aemond.  and a vacated slot now poor Laenor is dead.  There are a few spares without riders too I think.

The dragon Aemond has taken - Vhagar - is the last remaining dragon from the 3 Aegon the conqueror and his sisters rode when they first conquered Westeros.  The huge skull in the red keep was from Aegon's dragon, Balerion (the biggest).

So Aemond did pretty well to snare that one.

It’s not so much that it’s too dark to make out, it’s that it’s clearly the middle of a bright sunny day.

Exactly this, it's the night surfing scene from Point Break all over again.

Glad it wasn't just me that thought that episode was far too dark. Ended up turning all the lights out just to see anything.

Enjoyed the episode although things seemed to rush a little bit towards that end.

Also, we are due another  (spoiler as to what is shown in the promo)

Spoiler

time jump. for next weeks episode. I'm surprised they have done that so soon. Really trying to push the story along it seems. although bit weird that some characters in the promo didn't look like they had aged at all, where as the kids all looked way older.

I’m having more trouble with the sound than the visuals - particularly the children and women, because of the frequencies I’ve lost to deafness. Sky still haven’t sorted out their subtitles for UHD content, so I’ll have to record the HD one instead from now on.

I found some of the conversations difficult to follow - especially the kids.

Can we not have book spoilers in this thread without them being very clearly marked? I know on the spectrum of spoilers this is pretty minor but I’d rather avoid any of it at all.

Edit - or was this info from next week’s promo? I think that should be clearly marked as well to be honest, I don’t see the point in them.

Oh sorry, I just assumed most people watched the promo. I'll change it.
