Not played this before, playing on ps5 and the controls are...odd. sometimes the interaction prompt comes up, others times it doesn't. Sometimes it does something, sometimes it doesn't.

Either I am not getting the controls or its a bit finninky

I thought it was illegal there now?

It is and the physical releases are banned. I've had to uninstall my Steam copy because despite having owned it for a year and despite the Final Cut patch being pushed out this morning it is RC. Technically a lot of digital downloads aren't rated but since the OFLC has made a ruling and I've been made aware of that ruling...

I still suspect someone is either using this to start up some weird culture war or someone was really offended by some of the left wing politics portrayed. Really wished I'd completed my playthrough of this last year but I can play other things for a bit until the OFLC sort their shit out.

Quite fancied this on PS5, but I sit too far from the telly for all that tiny text. Even at max size it’s still pretty small apparently, and the in-menu text apparently doesn’t scale at all and is tiny at couch distance. Maybe pick it up when they can be arsed patching larger text options in.

Been waiting on this update. I love what little I played of the game the two or three times I tried it, but I never got very far - the lack of voice acting and extreme amounts of reading often felt a bit of a chore, despite the decent writing, due to how dense it all was. Will reinstall at the weekend and have another crack at it.

I've been looking forward to this for so long. A friend of mine described it as breaking every spoke in her soul.

But the controls are truly awful. I had to turn it off it was breaking the imerssion so badly. I'll have to come back to it one day.

Why no Xbox :( My wallet was ready. My body still is :(

Because our friends at Sony bought limited exclusivity (till Summer) and by then this will probably launch on Game Pass.

This will likely be the new reality... I expect Hades to follow a similar route.

Easy to circumvent with an account in another region I suppose?

It's an odd control scheme. Basically you push the right stick left or right to cycle through interactive points, though if you have nothing selected you can move the stick in the general direction of a point to 'start' selecting. It helps if you press L1: it highlights all interactive points. Also, you can use R1 instead of X. The border color of selected items corresponds with your aspects to denote what kind of information you'll get from the interaction.

It becomes more intuitive as you progress.

Other than that, it's insanely good. A proper role-playing game and one of the first wherein failure is about as interesting and valid an outcome as success. I'm already thinking of replaying this with different character builds. I do hope there's one to allow you to punch the Cuno in the face. :D

No, it works on Australian accounts. It's just put people in a weird place where they can access the digital PC version but it may be illegal for them to do so.

Ah, like that. Curious if/how they will check that though.

Apparently the PS5 version is a bit juddery in places and has long load times. Anyone played it able to confirm?

It only judders a bit when the autosave kicks in. Load times are fine but not DeS/Miles Morales speed. Seems to be a Unity game still in that respect.

BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW!  \m/  \m/

Ironic to find ourselves in a time where buying a legitimate copy of a game is breaking the law. Back in my day you had to pirate a game to break the law.

Surely that just adds to the metal as fuck badassery of the whole experience?

Or are there actual, genuine risks involved? Is it just notional crime? Or is it punishable crime?

You know what I wonder: why no one does fun crimes. Like kidnapping someone, but then releasing them unharmed with a thousand quid just for the lulz. Or breaking into someone's house when they're on holiday and refurbishing their kitchen. Fun crimes. It feels like the kind of thing Jeff Bezos should do to amuse himself.

What? Why??

Quote

Reason for Refused Classification

Games 1(a): The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."

It's a weird judgement. Usually this sort of thing comes with more detail.

Well, you can indulge in vices and doing so isn't necessarily good or evil either way. So I'm guessing if the dev added a "knowing is half the battle" message after every choice/check/action it would've been OK.

Personally I find it incredibly strange that a game aimed at adults, has to essentially be toned down to allow for minors to (not) play it?

Well, everyone was moaning about the controls, so I was wondering if that was related to the pad, or specific to the PS5?

The pad then? There's nothing wrong with the PS5 version.

Eurogamer Review

"I've been playing it on PlayStation 5 (and) I have come across the object interaction bug, which sometimes doesn't register your interactions, or doesn't quite trigger them. Pressing the button again usually rectifies the issue, so it's sometimes annoying but rarely more."

Wondered if this was exclusive to the PS5, or just generally a issue when playing on a pad.

Yeah, I think that's down to the fact that once you select an item , it then switches to using left/right on the stick exclusively.

So with nothing selected: right stick in any direction will home in on closest item in that direction.

Once an item is selected: right stick will ONLY register left/right to cycle through possible items on screen.

It's not 'broken'; it is as designed. Whether or not the design sucks is an entirely different question. :)
