80s Action TV Shows - Your top five

Recommended Posts

Sat in the pub and discussion turns to 80s American action shows. What were your top five?

Mine were: Magnum P.I., Knight Rider, Buck Rogers, The Incredible Hulk (which may be the 70's but I'm having it) and The A Team.

I liked Street Hawk, but it was just a knock off Knight Rider.

I'd also add that Dukes of Hazzard nearly made my list, too.

Pretty much. Same goes for Blue Thunder / Airwolf. I still lapped it all up though.

Top 5:

Knight Rider - I even had a watch that played the theme tune.

Airwolf

Buck Rogers

A-Team

Automan

Honourale mentions:

Hardcastle and McCormick

Wonder Woman (although I think that may have been released in the 70s too)

Manimal - The intro is still pretty incredible:

And on that note, here’s a ridiculous article asking the simple question: Airwolf vs Blue Thunder, which is more awesome?

It’s way too long to quote-post but if you were a fan of 80’s action shows then I can promise you it’s worth it.

I agree with the conclusion!

It was totally brilliant and I think (it’s supposed to be a surprise) I’m finally going to the Raffles hotel for my 50th later this year. My obsession with the hotel is entirely the shows fault.

McGyver - not sure it's action, but it was always my favourite from that slot.

Knight Rider

A-team

Airwolf

Buck Rogers, perhaps.

Will have to look up Bring 'Em back Alive - the name rings a bell, but I got nothing memory-wise.

Going from memory, it was Bruce Boxleitner in a mid twentieth century or earlier adventure, Indiana Jones style thing.

I love the idea that a thread like this creates a blip in googles analytics that confuses the shit out of someone analysing this kind of data at the time. Why the fuck have half a dozen people just googled "Bring 'Em Back Alive" in 24 hours when it hasn't registered a thing in the past thirty years?

We joked about TJ Hooker. I remember it once being introduced on Yorkshire TV as TJ Rocket.

Does Hart to Hart count?

Bring em back Alive is a very cherished show for me as it was the one I was watching the day the nurse came to my house and shoved a syringed enema up my arse to ease constipation. I'll never forget watching Boxleitner battling some tigers as an overweight lady in a plastic tabard applied a double thick lolly stick to my prise my 10 day old stool from its lodgings.

Also, TJ Hooker definitely counts because Locklear.

Battlestar Galactica

Knight Rider

Macguyver

The A Team again as it was the best by a mile.

Anyone remember Manimal? Some of these shows were just terrible.

Yeah, I remember Manimal. According to my dad I was a big fan of Automan as a toddler, I don't recall it though.

Also, for everyone listing BSG, that had one season in '78/'79. Pretty sure Buck Rogers doesn't qualify either.
