It's a new season. There's new names. New tracks. Will Hamilton win again? Can Vettel bring a challenge this year?

Revised Calendar Above. Quali removed due to unknowns, especially with the possibility of reverse grid sprint races. 

 

2020 Rule Changes

 

  1. In 2019, the chequered flag was changed by a chequered light panel to signal the end of the race, because a celebrity guest flag waver waved the flag too early in 2018. Naturally the light panel failed and flagged off the Japanese GP a lap too early. So now the flag is once again the end signal of a race.
  2. Pre-season testing has been shortend by 2 days, to two separate weeks of 3-day testing each.
  3. Mid-season testing has been cancelled due to the 22 race calendar.
  4. Post-season testing in Abu-Dhabi has teams now required to use a young rookie (two or less GP starts) for at least one full day.
  5. Thursday and Friday Curfew has been changed from 8 hours to 9 hours, during which time no mechanic is allowed to work.
  6. Mandatory miniature shark fins are now to be affixed to all cars, displaying the drivers number on them.
  7. Weigh bridge penalties have been made less strict so drivers don't necessarily have to get a pit-lane start for missing the weigh bridge light. 
  8. Teams may no longer shield their garage pit boxes with screens during testing, exceptions are made for when their car has the floor dismantled or for when a car is being recovered from an on-track failure.
  9. Metal may no longer be used on the first 50mm of the front wing. Metal attachments can only be placed 30mm from the end plate
  10. Brake Ducts are now considered "listed parts" and must therefor be produced by the teams themselves and cannot be bought from another team or a third party.
  11. Electronic aids used in the starting procedure have been further restricted. 90% of engine torque is now controlled by the driver through the clutch paddle(s). All clutch paddles are now to be a pull-paddle. Stall prevention and bite-point aids remain allowed.
  12. Up to three MGU-K's can now be used by drivers, up from two due to the 22 races in this season.
  13. Fuel outside of the fuel-cell is now restricted further down to 250ml instead of two liters.

You'd have to think that the China race is at risk.  Still a couple of months away so the FIA can probably leave it pretty late with making a decision.  It just depends how much ahead of time personal have to be sent to each race track to sort out the nitty gritty (world feed, misc arrangements) etc. before a decision will need to be made.

Rule 5. I take it that data analyst's can continue to pour over rakes of information and that it simply means that a nut and bolt mechanic is sitting around scrathing his or her balls waiting to make a raft of changes to the car? or do they just have more teams working in shifts fettling the vehicle?

Well it's worth knowing, you can see someone looking at that and thinking a seperate team on a different shift could fill any void. If you make it so they can't fiddle with the car for 9 hours straight it's no longer a grey area.

Gene Haas doesn't really need sponsors.  That's why they took the Rich deal when even Williams wouldn't touch it, it was a freebie but the team is here to promote Haas.

This reminds me that Branson started a team from scratch. He sold it after a year didn’t he? How does that work? He must have lost a packet on it.

Has anyone tried the official F1 streaming service? Although it's not officially available in the UK as technically it's available on free to air TV, a VPN with an American or German accent seems to fool it...

Seeing as Sky is £70 a month and F1 is the only reason I keep it, I'm interested to know if this is a viable alternative.

I don't think he ever put much in, it was always a branded Manor Racing.

Wow you were ripped. I have 72Mb Fiber, Phone line with free weekend calls, Sky Mobile with 8GB Data, Sky Q HD with Entertainment, Movies, F1, Box Sets, 4 device streaming & pay £65 a month.

I read on here somewhere that they've wised up to that and only act once you cancel? But yeah, once I work out how to watch F1 without them I'm going to ring up fully intending to cancel unless they make with the discounts! (I'll probably go for SkyQ too if they dangle a big enough carrot)
