But I liked the effort they put into Ocarina, Majoras Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess when they brought them to modern hardware. Why would I want them to stop doing that sort of work?

I don’t think anyone wants them to stop but it’s a nice bonus to have some straightforward ports along side remakes like Bowser’s Fury. We already know they’re doing a full remake of Skyward Sword, what’d be wrong with bare-bones versions of all of the N64 and GC Zeldas up for grabs alongside it?

Although speaking of bonuses it would’ve been nice if these had been loyalty points freebies like the GC Zelda collection was. ;)

Why? Lazy ports, sure, but the games themselves are fantastic!

Nope. I don't like 64 or Sunshine. I have no desire to play either of them beyond what I have because I don't have the time and I don't have the patience. Galaxy is still incredible but I got my Wii U out of the loft and found I had 1 AND 2 on there that I totally forgot about (and Metroid Prime Trilogy ) so 3D All Stars is superfluous to requirements. The first purchase I've regretted since Borderlands 3.

I'm presuming they'll split them to buy separately or that they'll be covered by the Switch Online subscription when they launch the N64/GC/Wii versions.

Some very hopeful thoughts there :D

Who knows, one thing you can guarantee from Nintendo is that they will confound expectations.

Knowing Nintendo you'll be playing the DS version of 64 before any of those. :hat:

I've returned to this to play some more Galaxy as I've never played it outside this collection.

I love a lot of the level design in this but it has to be the worst controlling 3D Mario game of any I've played. The movement is far too slow and Mario doesn't maintain enough momentum when landing any kind of jump which prevents you from putting together any of the beautiful fluid combinations you can easily achieve in 64, Sunshine or Odyssey.

It's like Nintendo realised the levels are all actually pretty small so nerfed the speed with which you can get around them.

Vocal minority.

I think Sunshine is terribly disappointing. I bought that collection just to give Sunshine another go, after the rllmuk crowd kept on going on about how good and misunderstood it really is. I turned it off after less than 2 hours.

Mario. Should. Not. Have. A. Backpack.

Or a Dinosaur?

FLUDD isn't really the problem. It's the camera from hell. 64's has aged, unsurprisingly, but basically holds up outside of the later levels. Sunshine's is screamingly annoying and just goes wild at certain points.

Galaxy is basically the result of Nintendo doing a complete rethink to solve the issue.

Sunshine is overall a rushed mess, but is the best controlling Mario game. It's like Sega Rally or something the way you can just throw him around. The water pump and belly slide into an elongated jump combo never stops being fun.

Whereas the Galaxy experience of being welded to the floor of a series of abstract spheres is just boring. I liked the bee level and that was about it.

So I downloaded this on original release.

Got OLED Switch, sold original Switch, and redownloaded all my old games, except this one which I can no longer find. Is there an eShop related workaround?

It’s not on the eShop for sale, so if you’re looking for it that way you won’t find it. Should be in the Redownload section of your account (select your Mii) though.

Ah so you select your Mii - that's the bit I struggled with. OK thanks will give it a go

I'm riding this wave. Always liked sunshine the best out of the 3D Mario games and did not get on with galaxy at all. Sunshine has higher highs and controls better.

I've never understood the love for Galaxy. They looked at the gorgeous expansive worlds of Mario 64 and thought "What about we take these but make them tiny balls and then rig the camera so you can see fuck all and then shoe horn in some motion controls you don't want.
