Recommended Posts

Oh look, it's Nintendo announcing and releasing a title within 2 months. Shock!

Looks great!

It looks so pretty. The Paper Mario artstyle is just glorious.

This. Paper Mario games have always looked good but there hasn't been a good one since Thousand Year Door back in 2004. Hopefully this doesn't have some bullshit battle system like Sticker Star and Color Splash.

Color Splash was such a waste of beauty.

Wonder if the Metroid sting at the end is hinting at something...?

Looks lovely. I normally don't pick up the paper mario games but this looks so nice I might give it a try.

More combat info

Paper Mario: The Origami King also introduces a new ring-based battle system that lets you flex your puzzle-solving skills to line up scattered enemies and maximize damage. While the enemies may be crafted from paper, these dynamic, turn-based battles are far from stationary. It’ll require a sharp mind to make short work of these crafty enemies.

Sounds more complex than Color Splash. I'm intrigued.

WRONG.

Thousand Year Door is the classic, and the best one, but the series has always been funny, visually inventive and has great games in it. I think the Wii version immediately following TYD and being the worst - and then the follow ups having objectively worse battle systems (yawn) - really sullied all follow up games with the audience but there's gold there. Colour Splash was great, regardless of its poor battle (again, yawn) mechanics.

Super Paper Mario? I thought that was brilliant.

That seemed to be most of the game, and it was fucking awful, so I gave up.

I'm not wasting my time slogging through a boring system to get to the good stuff.

I may or may not have used my final voucher on this.

Ok, I'm getting that.

I haven't played a Paper Mario game since Thousand Year Door because I've always been put off by something, but that looks so good.

Definitely in, and TTYD is one of the most brilliant, inventive, gorgeous, and hilarious games I’ve ever played, but it set a high bar that none of the sequels or follow ups have come close to. Fingers crossed ^_^

Honestly, at this point is just love an HD update of Paper Mario 2.

Yes!

This looks beautiful I'm so in. TTYD is the high bar but I've at least enjoyed all the PM games; even Sticker Star.

Released on my daughter's 4th Birthday (she already loves it from the trailer) so that's that day sorted if we're still hiding from the world by then and if not, an excellent Friday night for me with a couple of beers.

Incredibly excited for this but it means I'll probably have to skip Xenoblade, especially since 51 Worldwide Games is so soon too.

I'm another one who really enjoyed Sticker Star so I'm certain I'll love this.

Such a comically stark contrast between that Unreal Engine demo yesterday and then this, I love it!

I do appreciate their desire to innovate and not retread old ground but TTYD's badges and battle system were my favourite of any JRPG, so hopefully there's a little more to this new circular system than it looks.

When did they start doing that white outline, was that a sticker star addition?

The series is very hit and miss but the trailer is a hit. I’m in.

That seems due to a mix of developers. Which previous ones has this one made?
