It is oddly compulsive. I thought we'd be done with it when we beat the final level but we've just gone back to the start and continued on the next difficulty level. And it's more fun than ever. We bought the DLC and even though it just provides more of exactly the same, we still consider it money well spent. Such a simple little game but so compulsive too.

I haven't tried out the new levels but the updates to the village seem like they basically add an endgame that was sorely lacking up to this point. I'm not sure if there's a way to get the blacksmith to added enhancement slots to your weapons or if it's just levelling them up. I hope you can get extra slots.

Seems like a good upgrade for the game.

I think it’s just rerolling the item level. So essentially you need never throw away a unique item.

The update is good. I wish it had come sooner in a way. But I’ve been playing again and the daily challenges put multipliers/modifiers in levels that mean you have to think about your build/loadout.

I just did a level where 15% of melee mobs were replaced with Mob Spawners but you get 4x as many souls. Fucking ace!

I've been trying the latest set of DLC and I think I'm probably done with this game. The Apocalypse+ stuff isn't that fun. A challenge is nice but I've ran into multiple instances where a combination of enchanted enemies has left me with no chance of surviving. Given that they are still insistent on having hour long levels it's feels frustrating to die and not make any real progress. There's stuff in the DLC that's good but just make the levels shorter.

I've got an odd issue where pressing 'B' on the Xbox controller doesn't exit the menus, I have to press 'Esc' on the keyboard - this is the Gamepass version on PC and affects both my computer and my son's. 'B' does work on the main menu, and it works in-game (for deploying artifacts), it's a really odd bug.

Does anyone else experience this? I've done a quick search but I haven't found it reported.

Gave a brief try to the latest update. The Ancient Hunts seem like they'll be a good addition. Only tried it once but it seems like your choice of offerings affects the type of enemies that show up so you can end up facing a mix of creatures from the jungle and mountain areas for instance. Felt fresh if that makes sense.

Between the base game, first season pass and whats been released of the second season theres a lot of content in there right now. Inventory management probably needs an overhaul at this point.

Really enjoying this with my daughter, it’s the first game of this type we’ve ever played together (RPG/dungeon crawler) and it’s so good in co-op.

What do coins actually do? I’ve unlocked a vendor but he just lets us send gifts to each other.

Ah! I'm glad I didn't salvage an old unique armor that's now too low level. I'll get that in the smithy.

I loved Diablo 3 and have been meaning to start this, but it slipped my mind (so much on Game Pass). The kids are pretty high level and were on it yesterday, so I joined in. Got a few levels and a load of decent gear from the higher difficulty. Now blitzing through it myself, this might finally be the thing to lure me off Dead Cells.

I notice if you click on a mission, it'll show a question mark under gear that drops under the level. Is it best to repeat levels until you've had all the drops, or just plough on through the story?

The green gem things? When you unlock the blacksmith, you can reroll items and get enchantments back out of older kit. I had a level 6 wolf but he wasn't cutting it any more, so sent him to the smithy and used my Llama meanwhile. He popped out 3 missions later level 28. Found some armor with 150% pet attack speed at enchanting III. It's ace, except he aggros half the map.

Man I wish I'd got into this game sooner, loving the way you can dip in and out, I play on and off with either kiddo (alas, no 3rd pad, nor does the game do both local + Lan multi-player, unlike Minecraft proper). My son and I had a go at the first map on the lowest difficulty of adventure mode. Power 33, our team was 24. Got our arses handed to us but so much fun, plus we've got a power level to aim for now. We did redeem ourselves later though, doing some level at 27. One with the caster boss, he dropped what looks like a unique tanking bow (enrages mobs).

This has been a huge surprise for me tonight - I naively presumed this was shite based on the lukewarm reception at launch. Has there been much added since then, because this deserves to be played by more people.

It's fantastic!!

Question for you folks if you don't mind - I saw there's been 2 areas added for a fiver each and there's a "season pass" for about €17 but I'm struggling to see the difference... Any idea or even if they are worth getting?

Season pass gives the 4 DLC packs - only 2 have been released so far.  I picked up the season pass as my daughter and me have been having a fun time with this recently so more levels is always a good thing :)

There's a Hero Pass (€9.99) which contains the first two expansions "Jungle Awakens" and "Creeping Winter".

The Season Pass (€19.99) is basically season 2 of DLC and will contain four new expansions. The first two are "Howling Peaks" and "Flames of the Nether". They haven't announced the last two yet.

The one criticism I'd have of the expansions I've tried is that each level is 45 minutes to an hour long. There's three levels in each expansion.

I'm so addicted to this game. It's the perfect balance of incremental improvement for the time you put into it. It's even distracted me from NMS.

Finished the Howling Peaks boss, he dropped a lovely power shot bow on adventure mode. Enjoyed that fight, too.

Anyway, I've been thrashing this trying to catch up with my son's power, but realized I'm actually ahead now (64 VS his 50 something), but we managed to just about take down the arch illager on adventure, so finally unlocked apocalypse. Holy crap, easiest level starts at power 71 I think it was, and suddenly there are enchanted archer mobs that literally deflect arrows. Of course, my character is entirely built around arrows. Not deterred though, I remember when starting out on adventure mode I could barely make it through that level, looking forward to the grind :) I need to complete the DLC on adventure first, though.

This game is pretty cool, but man the Switch version has atrocious performance. I'm trying to play couch co-op with my nephew but it's horrific, running almost in the single digits at times it seems.

This is the issue with multi format switch games. I remember when I had one I was horrified when I played fortnite. I guess some people will never know any different like my nephew's who only have a switch, but compared to the Xbox version this and fortnite are like different games.

I still like to dip into this, but the levels are so big and take so long to clear - it's hard to find an hour+ to put aside to play.

It'd be much more accessible if there was a mid-level save feature.

Yeah, that's the only sticking point, needing to find a solid hour per level. My son and I zerged through one of the later levels (with the giant lava golem) last night in about 30 minutes, a few levels below our combined power. Holy crap, keep an eye out for bows with "accelerated speed" or something called out as a feature. I had two pets out and as they were busy tanking him, I just mashed the trigger as fast as I could for a minute or two. Fun :)

My son and I were doing Obsidian Pinnacle to get the last rune for the Moo? secret level and defeated a good 7 or 8 captains. Never had that many before, usually just 1. The debuffs were insane (we were at power 51, lowest adventure difficulty). 3x threat increase, 80% mob speed increase. Etc. I just wanted to see what the loot was going to be so we got to the Arch Illager and... utterly pasted. The rotating beams got the speed boost so almost impossible to avoid.

Can't wait for Apocalypse though, bet it's bonkers fun :)

Power 84, level 90ish! Once you get over the hump of the power needed to actually survive apocalypse difficulty (~69/70) without healing every 5 seconds, you start devouring the power levels again. It was a slog at first, which I mostly did grinding out those 15 ancient hunts to unlock the last vendor slot. Speaking of which, my son and I took down our first ancient! The fire one. He dropped total crap but that's only the second time I tried. I did briefly try the frozen guy but he has deflect and my *entire* build is around crazy arrow DPS, which means I'm totally SOL. Need to rethink that one.

I saw a clip that you can fly over small gaps with the elytra in the new expansion, awesome.
