Trends in dialogue and storytelling go in and out of fashion, and I'm sure quippy, self-knowing dialogue will be back in again before too long. Videogames are funny because they sometimes lag way behind the tides of Hollywood, so when they start doing this stuff so blatantly it's old hat. Or maybe Forspoken is anticipating the comeback and is actually ahead of the zeitgeist, who knows!
