Hi there gamers !
My plan is to beat all pc games I remember from about 20-30 years ago.
Mainly, I want to create an archive of pure walkthroughs without disturbing by any voice commentary, but I will also try to publish special series with reviews, commentaries etc.
Hope you'll enjoy my content

Love Prince of Persia. Such undervalued and satisfying gameplay now of atmosphere + memorising + reflex. Always found it odd how people will expound the gameplay of this yet don't rate Rick Dangerous ( obviously), which imo shares precisely the same mechanics.

I'm sorry if this comes across as grumpy but isn't this behaviour a bit spammy?

I'm sure the Old Nerd makes great YouTube videos (I might check them out at some point) but there's nothing here more than some links to the videos.  No engaging in the forum with interesting comments or posts, just direct links to the videos.

That feels a bit spammy to me and in the past I've seen people warned and even banned for such behaviour.  Perhaps you should talk more about your videos and get involved in the community here at rllmuk before just creating empty posts?

Maybe it's just me though?

8 posts in 6 months and all pretty much the same.

I hate putting newbies down on forums so hopefully this is just someone who doesn't get the etiquette of the forum and it's not representative of their normal style. I'm sure @Old Nerd will take a more contributory part in the conversation and not just shout his promo's.

I hope so too.  I'd love to see Old Nerd become a regular here in the retro forum as long as there's a mixture of proper posts along with his youtube links. :)

You are right guys. I apologize I am not so "social-active". I'm just trying build my channel, every day uploading videos & have so less time.

Feel free to ask me anything. I have a long description in community page & About page on YT. Thank you all for support.

Just for another point of view, I'm happy for Old Nerd just to post his videos here. Who knows what the forum is really for at this point? It may as well be for people to share their retro content. I doubt he's making a fortune out of this, if he's making anything at all, so I don't really consider it spam.

Regarding the videos themselves - I'd rethink your thing about not having any talking over the gameplay footage. I just think there's already commentary-free "long plays" of just about every game out there already. And I always find intelligent commentary of game play through engaging, always interesting to hear someone's thoughts about a game. No need to create a YouTube "persona" and start yelling about liking and subscribing, or trying to be funny. Just talk about your thoughts as you are playing the game, point out things that you think are good bits of game design or whatever! Just a friendly suggestion, feel free to ignore me if that isn't what you want to do at all!

I have to agree with others here about your posts in that whilst it's fine to post your videos it would be nice if you could join in with the rest of us just in other threads We're a generally friendly bunch here. We have a Your Retro Youtube Videos topic you are welcome to contribute to where members share thier vids. I feel if you engage more with us you're more likely to get people here to follow your stuff on Youtube.

Excellent smalltalk as always.

😃 I am sorry guys, but I am really not so talkative individual. Maybe thats the reason why I'm recording only No Commentary videos.

Edit: Maybe drop some questions, so I could answer

I prefer your videos because there's no talking. Watching some ejit with head phones and mic talk shite over games drives me nuts. They are usually sat in on one of those god awful looking "gamer" chairs too.

Anyway watched your vid of pc mortal Kombat, that looks nearly arcade perfect. If I recall correctly probe did the snes version of mk 2 , it was excellent too (sorry terrible pun / reference)

Not talking on your videos is a different thing than not making some comments while dropping a video into the forum.  At the risk of sounding overly fussy about these things, there's an accepted decorum in online discussion forums such as this and by ignoring that and just pasting a link to your video, it comes across as VERY spammy.

Why not just add a sentence or two to say something like:

Quote

Hi everyone.  I just thought I'd link you all to my latest video in which I play Mortal Kombat for a while and try to show just how good a conversion it was on the PC.  Not all conversions fared so well as you know - which were your favourites and how does the PC version stack up to them in comparison?

That way at least, you're starting a conversation or discussion off and are giving us something to talk about.  It doesn't take long and it shows a willingness to get involved in the forum rather than just trying to use it to grow your subscriber account.

I have suggested to you before that even a little interaction on here would go a long way to build up some goodwill with people here, maybe having a read around and seeing what people like, chipping in a line here and there, and when posting videos here getting a bit of a conversation going, telling us why you chose the game, that sort of thing. It's not like this is the first time I've had to say this. So I encourage you to have a look at other topics, get involved. This is the easiest-going part of the forum so you shouldn't feel intimidated.

This isn't a threat but I discourage you from just posting videos with no comment going forward, or I'll have to give you a warning for spam.

This is going to sound way more harsh than I mean it - especially as I have no interest in your videos - but effectively this does feel like you are spamming a single thread, and the fact you say you aren't very talkative and we should ask you questions rather than you contributing to the actual discourse seems a bit...vain? Self-indulgent?

It's not about making any money or anything though, it's just that dumping posts with no content (other than a link to their own YT channel, which in the OP is stated as the only reason for posting) isn't really adding anything, is it? As you say yourself, no-commentary videos are easy enough to find so it's hardly a unique angle here.

I don't know, I just think that dropping videos and disappearing until the next one is ready shows no real interest in actually being part of the community here - and whilst I guess it ultimately doesn't matter, at the same time it just feels like we're being used whether you view the YT content or not.

Thanks @Vimster.

It's hard to get the right balance as a mod I'm sure.  I think we've tried to explain things to @Old Nerd though and all we're asking for is a bit less spam and a bit more engagement.  You'd get banned instantly from other, less friendly, forums for doing this.

Let's hope that @Old Nerd listens and gives us a bit more to go on when he next posts.

Ok guys, I acknowledge your criticism, please accept my apology. So lets try to discuss a bit.

I would like to ask, whats your most favorite (iconic) pc games from the past ?

For me, its:

1. Gothic trilogy (mainly Gothic 2) - for perfect work with AI, original story-telling, authentic vibe & quests variety

2. Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven for the complexity of RPG elements, weapons (armors, items) variety & huge open-world.

3. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 for unrivaled multiplayer & complex chess-like tactics.

4. Diablo 2 - for its atmosphere, well-designed action & coop multiplayer.

5. GTA San Andreas - for many sophisticated mechanisms, interesting story-line & perfectly designed open-world.

Mine are a bit older - by the time the games on your list came about I'd moved onto console gaming, I think ... Mainly because I was at uni and quick pick-up-and-play games like Wipeout, Tekken and Goldeneye fit with my lifestyle better.

When I think of my favourite classic PC games, I think of stuff like Ultima 7, Wing Commander 2, Civ 2 and Sierra/ Lucas adventures.
