At last.

She mentioned that feedback has been extremely positive in regards to early tests, and that through optimization and innovative use of the Xbox's hard drive, the game will look remarkably close to its PC counterpart.

AS A PLATE.

I can see Doom III falling into the TS2 like it/ hate it forum divide. From what I hear, it's a no brains shooter with a bit of an emphasis on fear. The AI will hardly be stunning, it'll all be about gorgeous set pieces and blasting all the shit that moves.

However, sometimes that's just what I want. Looking forward to this, a lot.

Prehaps, but theres a big emephis on the fright. Games that have some kind of fear factor will do rather well.

AvP was a straight FPS but was rated well. The thing is, an FPS needs more then just straight shooting and fear is almost becoming a genre to itself so it should bode quite well.

Dunno if i like the triggered events though. I hope its not like monsters spawning when you move over a certain area like Doom2.

Well done IGN, a Doom 3 spokesperson come on over, with no demo or movie of the game running, tells them it's going to be fantastic and they have a 3 page article on it.

Whilst it may turn out to be fantastic, I really can't see any PR person turning up and saying "it's all gone a bit tricky... to be honest it's crap, buy the PC version"

Doom III sounds brilliant. Like, FPS back to its roots.

But Doom III isn't the most important thing about Doom III, if you see what I mean. It's the Doom III engine (and the HL2 engine) which are the best things to happen to FPS gaming on the PC since the Quake engine. I can't wait to see what spawns from those two games.

Yep, so long as this delivers on that score I'll be happy too, there are plenty of story driven FPS's coming up so the potential moronathon of murder in Doom 3 will go down really well.

It's not the most important thing for me, anyway. The graphics engine is, cos it's from that where all the truly great games will come, I reckon.

Look at Half Life, that was with the Quake engine... as were most other big FPS games.

I can see some great games coming out using this engine, losing the whole "hell" theme, brightening up a bit and looking damn good. Possibly nicer than Half Life 2.

Compared to the games that are around today, do you think the Doom 3 visuals hold up as still being revolutionary? I watched the footage again last night and it still looks totally fucking out there, it's still amazingly impressive but I don't play PC games. Is it still that far ahead or are other developers catching up?

Umm, the trouble with it is the actual look of the game. I mean, some would say Far Cry looks nicer but I think the environment plays a big roll.

I think technically it's way ahead of most other PC games, but to the eye it doesn't look as impressive as say, Half Life 2. Even though a lot of people would say it's a better graphics engine.

The enviorments of HL2 really highlight the engine.

Doom3 is set in the dark so a comparisson is not really fair.

I must admit, i can't stand FPS's set in confined areas unless nessessary, so we'll have to see. The other thing which sells me on HL2 is the physics engine.

I loved that bit where the player was being chased by small saw wealding manic flying robots, and just shut the steel gate, and it stopped them. Thats class.

I'd rather play serious sam than Q3.*

If that gives you some idea re: graphical styles

* Yes, I know they're different engines, but, that's like EXACTLY my point:

Doom 3 = Quake 4 = ST:Voyager Elite Forces 3 = SoF3 = all the same game

Have you got your mystic meg hat on again?
