The General PC Gaming Thread

Right, yeah that sounds about right. There's a definite story to it but the maguffin about resurrection and death is woven into it. It pissed me off a bit because the second boss kerb stomped me despite giving him a good thrashing, but like I was never meant to be able to beat him so you HAVE to go back to the beginning. Like, he had 16k health and I got it down to 4k but I was down to my last Daugter and she did 1k damage max. He also hits like a truck. It's the first time I've encountered a rogue-like mechanic where I've felt it's just for the sake of it, despite a lot of modern games having a rogue-like structure. I quite like rogue-likes but I know some people are quite vehement when they encounter them.

It certainly sounds different, but I'm not a fan of rogue-like structures in games - especially those 'just because' - and whilst it's exactly like RPG elements are put into everything, I happen to like RPG elements :P. In terms of your current frustrations, is the game expecting you to come up with clever tactics to beat that boss? I saw on one of the videos you are encouraged to build combos and stuff that give free attacks?

Anyway, that, coupled with the rather unappealing art style is probably enough to take this from something I had on my wishlist to 'not interested' - so in that respect I appreciate your posts on it.

The interplay with the units is a definite mechanic to utilise at any opportunity. Like the Shieldbearer has an ability where she can switch places with a friendly unit being attacked, the Soulslinger (ranged) has one where if a friendly unit is being attacked in range then she'll fire a interrupting shot that prevents the attacking unit from finishing it's attack. SO there's interesting set ups and combinations. But yeah the aesthetic is a definite marmite type of thing, I quite like it but it's very Sin City/Sleepy Hollow.

We’re very excited to reveal the Finji demo lineup. Previously limited to in-person events like conventions, you will be able to play the following PC demos on Steam during the duration of the IndieArena Online event from August 27 through August 30:

Today I learned that there is a game called 5D Chess WIth Multiverse Time Travel:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1349230/5D_Chess_With_Multiverse_Time_Travel/

The top Steam review describes a game:

Quote

I was playing a game against a human opponent online, and at one point they sent a queen back in time from one of the ten timelines currently in play to put five of my past kings into check at once. I sent one of my own pieces even further back to stall, and they proceeded to send one of their queens back to the start of the game to try and beat me before I even got to that point. I was able to maneuver one of my bishops in the second-most divergent timeline into position to capture the queen in the alternate present once we got back to that point and save the game (I eventually won by checkmating their king 5 turns in the past)

This is an ACTUAL DESCRIPTION of an ACTUAL GAME, see:

If you have no idea what I just wrote, I hardly do either, this game makes my head hurt and yet eventually your mind's eye is opened to the cosmic structure of the universe -

or you just go insane

10/10

The rules are quite simple, really:

Does anyone know if there's a way to take screenshots instantly using an Xbox One controller while playing a Steam or other PC game, as opposed to going into the Xbox guide (which is temperamental) and selecting the screenshot function? Can I map the Steam screenshot button to a combination of buttons, for example? I want to be able to do it at the press of a button, like you can on PS4 or Switch.

If you're in Big Picture Mode, Guide + Right Trigger is the universal combination by default.

You could probably map the same macro in Steam Input settings or some other keymap software to hit F12 for any Steam game. YMMV outside of Steam, mind - Screenshots were always finicky depending on the game itself (some had a keybind, others supported Print Screen, others simply didn't work at all), which made the screenshot function one of the surprisingly nice features about the Xbox Game Bar on PC.

And then it clashes with the Steam overlay and fucks everything up, you disable it and forget about it for another six months. Just like every other overlay (Shadowplay, various launchers, retroarch, etc)

Thanks for that. I don't tend to play in Big Picture Mode but I'll give it a go.

Is the fact that the Xbox guide clashes with the Steam overlay the reason it's so temperamental, then? Sometimes it works perfectly when I press the Xbox guide button and pops up straight away, whereas other times it just plain doesn't work, even if I restart the game I'm playing.

It's likely. You can go into the General Controller Settings via the button below in the settings, and turn off 'Guide Button Focuses Steam' in an attempt to make it play nice with Windows DVR/Game Bar. Seems to be reliable on a quick test, however you'd still need to figure out a way to take a screenshot via the Game Bar's keyboard macro (Win + Alt + PrtScrn).

Yeah, Both Shadowplay and Radeon's solution would have some sort of screenshot function in their overlay alongside video recording.

They would also come under the same flaws - implementing another daft overlay on top of another, which ends up breaking something. Also, most PC-centric overlays like the above mentioned GPU soluitions only work with KB/M shortcuts that doesn't work with just slapping the guide button, unless they've changed very recently.

Personally, I've punted Geforce Experience from my computer, and I'd probably do the same if I bought into Big Navi - Game Bar's DVR can utilise NVENC or AMD's VCE anyway, and the auto-configure profiles for games have always been chocolate teapot status from my own time with it.

I am embargoed to say too much, or show my own footage, so for now, have a trailer and get it bought on the 23rd.

Ooh that looks really nice. Love a bit of top down racing.
