Couldn’t see a topic specific to Black Adam, but this is out soon and there’s stuff going around with some pretty major spoilers, with the Rock on Jimmy Fallon pretty much confirming some rumours

Spoiler

Fallon mentions about comic book movies and the post credits scenes and says people will want to make sure they see this one as itll “blow people’s minds”

Rock responds with saying that he wanted to listen to the fans so he pushed hard to make sure it happened, finishing by saying that they set up Black Adam as the most powerful being on the planet, but the most powerful person in the DC universe has been ignored for a bit and “by the end of the film it’s……welcome home”.  I’m sure you don’t need me to spell it out now, but basically seems to confirm the rumours that Cavill is back as Superman.  There had already been people saying that they had heard of a scene with cavill as Supes confronting Adam.

One thing I’ll say is that it seems a bit weird pushing Superman in there seeing as they’d given the impression they were leading to a Shazam/Black Adam film.  In fact, one criticism they faced was that it felt like this was a vanity project for the Rock who didn’t want to share the spotlight or play second fiddle in a Shazam movie, with him saying “no no, we just think it’d be best to give each character their own origin film so BOTH can be introduced properly, and then we’ll have them clash”

The cynical part of me as well thinks that they’re pretty much leaking the Supes cameo in the hope of driving up ticket sales.

Very much waiting on a screener territory with Black Adam. Can’t fault Rocky ‘The Dwayne’ Johnson’s enthusiasm for his pet project he’s getting paid millions to shill but everything about the film screams 58 on Metacritic.

I have always wondered how some directors keep getting work in Hollywood, as looking at what the guy who directed this film, almost all of his other films have been utter shite.

The Shallows is great. But that's about it.

I wonder if this is worth seeing just for Pierce Brosnan.

Am I the first one to see Black Adam?

Went yesterday with my eldest boy who is currently doing a full MCU rewatch and has only seen Shazam and Suicide Squad 2 (both of which he likes).

I thought Black Adam was ‘alright while watching it’, but he really didn’t like it.

It’s CGI the movie - lots of 300/Spartacus type slow mo shots of a character surrounded by CGI.

I quite liked the JSA, The Rock doesn’t really do much except scowl.  It’s not very good, but it isn’t Morbius or first Suicide Squad bad. I didn’t hate it and it has the occasional bit of half decent action and the odd funny line (although tonally it’s all over the place).

Sadly for my eldest son, we have to go and see it again tomorrow and my youngest wanted to take some friends for his birthday. Yay!

Very brief spoilery thoughts

Spoiler

I did, for a minute, think it had finished with a rather low key ending and avoided the inevitable CGI baddie/sky beam fight.

Not sure why I thought that except it felt like we were getting close to 2 hours and maybe they were laying the ground for a sequel, but then they did the CGI monster/sky beam fight instead.

End Credits

Spoiler

A fair bit of excitement in the screening for Mr Cavill turning up.

No love lost between Snyder and WB, he won’t be back.

Give Cavill the curl and let him smile and everyone will smile with him.

Henry Cavill Confirms He Is “Back as Superman” for Future DC Movies

All they need to do is hire a decent director, hire the writers of Superman TAS or Justice League TAS and they make gold.

Been to see Black Adam this afternoon & it is in no way as bad as the reviews would have you believe.

I would give it a solid 3/5. There is definitely far too much CGI, but it massively wins points for tackling a common issue of Super Hero movies, in why do the Supes routinely ignore the  everyday struggles of ordinary people, unless something happens which directly affects their status quo?

Gunn exec + this comment from Cavill make me hopefully for the next Superman film.

"The character means so much to me. It's been five years now. I never gave up hope," Cavill said.

"It's amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I'm so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman."

I don’t think he would, but he would put the silly stuff into a proper ensemble. He could include Lois, Jimmy Olson etc and a proper pratfalling Clark. There's plenty of space for comedy and compassion there that means when the high stakes bit happens it’s actually high stakes.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Black Adam when I saw it in a virtually empty screening yesterday.

Perhaps a little too beholden to the Snyder look at times, but good fun and what impressed me was how each character had time to breathe and develop.

A solid 7/10 from me.

There’s a bunch more going around about what’s planned now too, with the speculation that the new guys in charge are effectively gonna reboot the DC movie verse.  Reports of Aquaman 2 being the characters swan song and Mamoa being tapped up for a Lobo movie, which he’s very interested in doing.  While they’re now expecting Black Adam to turn a profit, it’s not been nearly as successful as they’d hoped (and despite The Rocks attempts to paint it otherwise on Twitter) so talks of a sequel are reportedly not so keen now.  Cavil has shot more cameos (at least one for Flash) which may not be used now, as despite them getting him back, they are unsure about doing a Man of Steel 2 either, leading to people thinking they’re cutting ties with the current casting to potentially reboot.  The Pattison Bats films are unaffected as they’re considered separate to the main DC film universe, same with the Joker sequel.  Gunn and the other guy I can’t remember are presenting their pitch/vision for the future this week to Warner, though I imagine itll be a while before we hear much of what come of it, as at this point I assume it’d all be for future projects that aren’t in progress yet.  It’d be a shame if the get rid of some of the old casting though - Robbie is perfect as Harley, and I’d love see her get that film with Ivy in, Cavill I’m sure would be great in a better Supes film.

Of course this could all be bollocks and we hear of Black Adam vs Superman announced next week.  The Rock sounds a bit delusional though, he compared BA to the first Cap film, which they’ve done similar takings to, but also implying it’s also a “foundation of building a new universe”…..he knows they’ve had nearly 10 years of films already, doesn’t he?
