I’m completely out of the loop. Could some kind soul fill me in on 3090 RRP v current street price? Is it really silly due to these shortages?

I paid £1500 for mine, and had an offer of £1800.

To be fair, I’ve sent him a counter offer for £50 more and I’d accept really. I’d probably accept lower too.

Wow. That’s explains why everyone is so pissed.

So the 3080 has gone from ~£600ish to a grand at retail. And the 3090 is even higher for about 15% extra performance.

Might be time to try a new hobby for a few years then check in again. I mean the best part of two grand for a 2nd hand gpu.

Honestly, the consoles are doing such a good job that unless you really, really want the most rays ever, then that’s the way to go maybe.

I'm getting genuinely tempted to sell off my 3090. I was 'lucky' enough to buy one at rrp, but with my 144hz 1440p monitor (and no desire to upgrade to 4k anytime soon), it feels like utter overkill, and quite honestly I'd be very happy with the extra cash in my pocket.

Obviously, this is made more complicated by the overall lack of graphics cards around - suspect I'd attempt to find a 3070 / 3070ti , but if I could find one I guess even at the stupidly inflated prices, I'd probably still walk away with money in the bank.

I dunno.

What does the hive-mind say on the subject?

Also, if anyone wants to buy it, let me know. I'd be generous in my discounts...

I'll swap you a two and a half year old 2080ti for it, best deal mate trust me

I'll go one better,  and offer up my 2 year old rog strix 2080ti, that can hit a 10,000 on 3dmark port royal.

It deffo wasn't over clocked to do that, or have an extra fan... Nope siree!

Honestly, I'm glad I bought that one,  as its still going strong! I will prob end up buying a new system next year when the 4000 series comes out though!

Card sales at AVForums have died a complete death. You still see the odd one getting listed but few are paying the inflated prices now. I'll probably see out the year with my 2070 Super. I'd be interested in a 3070 / 3080 but there's nothing out there I can't currently run well enough.

I installed the Discord alerts more out of interest than anything else. My 2060 is plenty good enough for 1080 75hz. Having said that, a Founders 3060ti came on for RRP but I was on holiday and didn't see it until hours later. I should probably check my PSU as that may need an update before GPU does.

I helped my brother get a 3070 FE from Scan last year for his new build. I got to the point where I was wanting my own FE card, but Scan's one FE card per household policy means that I was SOL. Looked like the minimum for a third-party 3080 was around £1050. Ended up getting an ROG Strix 3080 OC last week. I'm glad I have a card now, but it's frustrating that I could have easily got a 3080 Ti FE for the same money if that policy wasn't there.

at this point, its almost "cheaper" buying a new syustem! or at least, more cost effective... 😕

and in latest hardware survey, amd cards are still nowhere to be found on it!?! meanwhile the 2060 is now number 2!

I got a prebuilt from Scan a few months ago with an AMD 6700XT in it.

Are they hard to find then?

according to the steam hardware survey...they literally don't register as a product on it!

I would assume they are lumped to together as other AMD.

I've got an AMD card already in another PC (RX570) which has done well.

I didn't have a need for a 4K capable card as I've only got 1080p monitors. My main gaming is done on consoles.

It also has 12gb RAM in it.

I also have a history of going against the grain! 😃

You can get graphics cards now for semi reasonable prices without waiting, you just have to buy a prebuilt system.

i feel like i read this somewhere...

To be fair, that was the plan during last October if I didn't get the card I have now. ;)

But it honestly is one of the better ideas if you really wanted a card (and is outright essential for some of the budget options, including certain AMD APUs that you just can't get off the shelf). At this point in time, you'd probably want to get hold of a CPU that either has a shitload of cores that new games can use or has the TPM bobbins for Windows 11, anyway.

Well, operation 'downgrade' is in full flow. Various offers coming in for the 3090, but have managed to snag a 3070ti on Box.co.uk for £750 (it's a refurb, but I'm working on the assumption that it's a fairly new released card, so shouldn't be too much use going on, and as I've used Box before I know they're pretty good to sort things out if it all goes wrong.

So, with a bit of luck I'll be around £1000 up when the 3090 sells.

Until the inevitable happens and I get lured into buying a 4090 as and when.

I am caught in the circle of life, and cannot get off :P

I couldn't imagine a 4090 at this point. It'd involve plumbing it into your central heating to dissipate the fucking thing.

The performance of the 3080 is great, and in hindsight paying over the odds for an OC model was a fair deal compared to dealing with the even more egregious price gouging that's happening now, but the sheer noise and temps of the card is absurd compared to what I previously had (1070). Undervolting helps, but I'd rather have a modified BIOS than having to keep Afterburner on all the bloody time. Should probably look into that while I've got the resources to do so (well, have a spare card in case the BIOS flash goes tits up).

The training department at my workplace bought themselves no less than three prebuilt HP Omen desktops recently, packing a 3090 each. I was actually quite impressed with the builds, although at around £3,000 each you'd bloody hope they were good.

As far as I'm aware though, they were bought to run training software with a recommended spec of a 2060 Super. On 1440p monitors, which were an upgrade from the 1080p screens they were going to use.

I should add that we were only involved in buying the hardware using their budget, and had no say in the choice, as they're obviously ludicrously, hilariously overkill. I did suggest that we could probably sell the cards, replace them with something much more suitable and probably end end up getting the lot for "free".

Doom Eternal. Trump’s Space Force demands it.

Heh. I can't really say without giving away where I work, but it's graphical training software involving multiple vehicles and stuff. It certainly doesn't look like it requires a 2060 Super though, let alone a 3090.

Stick Nicehash on them linked to your Coinbase account and make yourself a few quid.
