You can’t run Forza Horizon 5 at a locked 4K/60 on maxed settings with a 3080.

Admittedly I haven’t played it for ages so might be mid-remembering, but I was comfortably running FH5 at 4K at about 70-80fps. I’ll probably see out this gen as the 3080 is still a beast IMO. The only reason I’d upgrade is if I decide to hand it down to my son to upgrade his 1650 super

Same but I think it dips below 60 at some points very minimally

The most I'm presuming is CP2077 (which I hardly play currently) to be able to run at 120/4K/Performance DLSS, rather than the 70-to-100/4K/Ultra Performance DLSS I'm getting currently.

Not sure if arsed.

I'm more interested in seeing what a 4080/90 can do with something like CP2077 without putting DLSS on to be honest. Not that I'd ever play the thing without using DLSS on because the gains are stupidly high, but it would be a great barometer of just how good/otherwise the new cards are.

It does mostly hit 60, but drops occasionally as Uzi said. So I'll no doubt force myself into an upgrade that I don't need and can't afford. 🤫

It’s the opposite for me now. 60 isn’t enough for some games.

I’d like to upgrade so that the incremental price increases across generations isn’t as much of an impact if I’m out of the loop for a few turns. It’s a bit like car/house ownership, but on a hobbyist scale. There are no games I desperately need a 40XX for, unlike the time the 3080 was fresh.

If I play too much Destiny 2, all other screens start to look awfully choppy. I need a 120hz phone really.

I expect 90% of the cards will be immediately sucked up by bots then put on eBay for inflated prices like everything else these days, at least for the first few weeks.

Yep, buying and reselling anything desirable is pretty much a business for a growing number of people, it's just acquiring stock for resell. So demand for all the new PC components will be artificially higher than otherwise as a result.

Is a 3080 enough to play Cyberpunk at max settings with 60FPS @1440p?

Yeah, easily. Sometimes it dips under 60 if you’re razzing through a busy part of town, but mine sits on 80+ for most play, and much higher than that indoors (Psycho RTX, balanced DLSS).

I have no interest in anything above 1440p, the most recent 3080 on the site was tempting but I'm trying to gauge the price drops, to see where they end. Then I'll probably jump on a 3080, even though I only play Escape From Tarkov. Which probably doesn't need it.

Stop messing around and just buy my 3090 when I get the 4090, job done.

Par for the course over NV's long history, though it does neatly illustrate why memory bus and memory bandwidth matter so much to performance, you can lose upto 30%+ of your performance by restricting both in this case. At least it isn't as bad as the GT 1030 DDR4 version, 50% nerf. 🤣

They've been doing this on laptops for literally forever too.

I do sometimes wonder why AMD still make cards that attempt to compete at the top level. There’s clearly nothing especially wrong with them, and they perform fine, but I genuinely don’t understand who buys them. If you’re paying that sort of money then you may as well pay the extra and have a card that can do all the bells and whistles that you…y’know…pay silly amounts for.

If you don’t care for ray-tracing, then you can buy almost anything else for half the price pf any of these things and have great performance.

Hell, you can get great performance out of a built-in gpu on an amd cpu for god’s sake.
