So I've ordered a Series S, excited to try out an Xbox for the first time since the 360. This has probably been asked a bunch of times but does anyone know the cheapest way to get a gamepass subscription?

See the guide on the first page of this thread:

It’s because we moved on from 90’s audio 30 years ago, even the PS3 could output some variant of lossless audio.

I used optical on my PS4 with a Mixamp and that’s now redundant but I’m glad as DD and Dolby headphone are shite these days!

Doesn't make any difference what decade it comes from if its the only means of getting lagless audio for Rocksmith. They were never going to keep it for a small subset of a tiny percentage of their user base but it's still disappointing, especially as now I have to fork out another 20 quid if I want to play it on my series X.

I understand what you’re saying but you are doing something incredibly niche and there is usually a financial cost to that especially when changing the tech involved - tv audio output is always crap and laggy so splitting at source has to be the best way forward now and in the future unless we get a new Rocksimith et al for current hardware!

A three day ordeal with Argos, during which they never sent me a collection notification, didn't have one when they finally did say they had, and subsequently ordered another one for collection the following day has now ended... with me owning a Series S.

I pretty much expected to not be getting one when it all went wrong on Wednesday, so it's a pleasant but slightly irritating surprise. Fair play to the staff though, they were all helpful.

Ages ago.

This should be an automatic process without any developer effort required. Fallout 4 already supports it I believe. From what I understand it depends on the original game and how that is structured and resource-allocated. So a handful of games will profit from it, not the entire BC library.

I guess they postponed work on it to fix other issues that popped up after launch with Quick Resume for example, which apparently is fully fixed in the latest Insider build.

Both consoles are currently available on Amazon UK. I just bought an X :)

Edit: X has gone! S still there!

Mine has been dispatched for delivery tomorrow. I don't have any games to play on it, and I can't afford Game Pass until I get paid next week, but still :omg:

Has anyone played Generation Zero? Dont know why but i quite fancy it, i like the developer. Need to know if it runs 60fps on SX.

I bought & played it for an hour or so, before uninstalling to make room for something else.

It's not bad? It's fairly simplistic, but the thing that I didn't like was the enemies aren't really that fun to shoot. They don't really behave in particularly interesting ways. Might go back to it, either way it was only £10 on CDKeys so not disappointed, just not that fussed about it.

Not sure of FPS sorry (I played on Series X).

Isn't that just for games where there was no framerate cap though?

For the most part yeah but that's a separate thing. They've talked about some special technique that will double the framerate in certain games, such as fallout 4. It's a bit of a mystery at the moment.

Fallout 4 has a framerate cap. It’s part of the emulation specifically allowing the game to run at 60fps when it recognises new hardware. Sometimes developers will do it and sometimes the emulation team are going to do it.

It's arrived! :omg:

Impressions after twenty minutes:

- He's a chonky boi indeed! I wasn't expecting it to be as heavy. I was planning on putting it behind the TV, but it's going to have to go on the floor for the time being. Gord alone knows what the PS5 must be like in the flesh.

- It's silent.

- The controller feels nice in the hands, and I like the tactility of the dpad compared with the XB1 pad I use for my PC.

- Set up using the app was fairly simple. I had to sync the controller manually after it wouldn't connect by itself, but that was the only hiccup.

- Having not owned an Xbox console since the 360, the vertical scrolling home screen is going to take some getting used to.

Questions:

- There's no green light coming out the top of the console - is this normal?

- I'm using an LG B9 as my main display - apart from setting the Xbox to 4k @120hz, can I leave the other video calibration settings alone?

- Is there anything else with regards to settings that I should fiddle with?

It was cool seeing all my 360 games from years ago in my library. I'm installing Burnout Revenge to play while I get GamePass sorted
