Xbox Series X | S

There is some logic with using the S as a dedicated gamepass console

I must admit if I had to purchase Dirt 5 now to play it on the S... I would be slightly annoyed because it looks a bit too blury (just a bit).  And paying full next gen price to play the blurier version, it is not ideal.

That being said I'm really enjoying my time with it on gamepass.

If I buy any game on the Xbox, will the game show up on my PC? I was surprised to see Forza Horizon 3 and Killer Instinct on the list of Xbox purchased games both bought on  windows store.

It has to be a 'play anywhere' game and I'm not sure they use that term much anymore because their focus is more on gamepass on the windows side than on selling games.

But basically any Microsoft published games (forza and KI for example) will work that way.

My little brother is playing on the original Xbox one (fat) and has been feeling a bit down over lockdown recently.

Over the past few nights I've been thinking of treating him to a Series S which would be perfect for him... Except I forgot he has all of his games on disc :( everything.

And I'm kinda stumped to be honest. A One X doesn't make sense and a Series X is out of my budget. Would love to get him a Series S but he wouldn't be able to play any of his games, sadly.

Personally I’d say a One X would be a nice upgrade for him. It’ll be faster, games will look better and it’ll have more space on the HDD. Perhaps top your gift up with a year or two of Gold and (assuming he’s not already had it) do the £1 gamepass ultimate trial conversion thingy and for around £200 he’ll have a better console (that he can play his disc games / blu rays on) with a boat load of cracking GP games to go at :)

You know those store credit things that they sent out last week? How do I redeem it?

I had a notification in the app on my phone for £8 credit, but looking now I can’t find it anywhere.

Have I missed a bit in the app somewhere or is it too late to claim now?

Loving Yakuza 3 at the moment but had a weird situation tonight where the framerate absolutely bottomed out for no reason.

Checking online and it appears to be a known issue whereby the game will stutter and sometimes crash whilst the console is background downloading/updating on an external drive. I have Halo MCC installed on the external and that began updating at exactly the point it all started playing up, weird bug?

These remasters are a little flakey on the Xbox I think, I've had issues with Yakuza 5 failing to properly sync save data between two consoles (literally the only Xbox game I've ever seen have any problems with this).

I swear the Series X makes games look noticeably sharper on my old 1080 plasma telly, so much so that i'm not going to bother getting the expensive new telly I was planning on getting. I've been playing a lot of Forza Horizon 3 and that looked a bit sharper but I fired up FH4 this morning with the Series X upgrade and the image almost sliced my eyeballs it was so sharp. It looks incredible.

As much as I love my Series S I guess the X suits me more. More than sheer power it's the better xbox one backward compatibility what am after.

The Series S/X stock alert looks pretty dead. Is there  any queue about when there will be some availability?

Of course I'm not in a rush at all. But looking forward an upgrade.

Stockinformer are helpful, it's worth signing up for notifications. I was the same, although the S is good I wanted a X because I want something that can play my Xbox One discs. I got lucky with Stockinformer and managed to snag an X from Amazon.

Microsoft have said there may be stock issues for the X until summer:

Fucking hell. The same price as the console for some headphones? Wow.

There’s also the official MS ones that are something like £90.

I think it’s great that they’re catering for a range of budgets to be honest.

Gaming headphones with a sophisticated aesthetic that makes them wearable in any situation. Packed with quick-access gaming functions, rock-solid connectivity for mobile gaming and Dolby Atmos virtualised surround sound for an immersive gaming experience.

Man, they're really struggling to fill up that copy with the single bullet point (supports Dolby Atmos) the manufacturer sent them. Game successfully with these game-friendly gaming headphones for additional gaming gamiosity! Allows successful gaming connection to games console for crystal-clear game sound effects and game music. Interface them with your head and ears, or carry them with your hands. Spin them on a table, and see how long it is before they stop. Throw them in the air - not too high - and catch them. Can be worn while playing games, and and also in non-game situations. £450.

They're just B+O headphones with the Xbox Codec added. You can buy them without the xbox functionality for the same price.

They don’t have a mic then?

It will, simply because of the improved texture filtering

Yeah they have directional mics built in to the ear cups. I did post a guys review in the Next Gen Headphone thread. They do also work on the PS5 and PC apparently. I've actually pre-ordered the light grey ones :D

Well, that's a nice bonus :)

Also because games with dynamic res will hit that highest possible res way more often, if not all the way through. Even on 1080p set that looks very sharp and detailed thanks to downsampling. Titanfall 2 goes all the way up to 6k apparently! Also, with improved performance boosts you get solid 60FPS moving images on your screen which also makes the overall image clearer and more solid imo.

I saw this on another forum:

I’ve just tried to see what this is about, but Twitter really confuses me and I’ve no idea what’s going on.

A game by another studio is not an abandoned Kojima game for PS5, but that somehow has something to do with MS signing up Kojima to make a game?

There was a game announcement for some kind of survival horror game called "Abandoned" for PS5 earlier this week. Apparently, (this is all news to me, and I'm only going from the quoted tweets) some people were baselessly speculating that this was a Kojima game. I don't know if Grubb is a reliable source that Kojima is talking to Xbox.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS have been talking to him. They are making all the right moves.

Could even be for an xbox port of Death Stranding. Who knows.

Kojima Productions is making a new game, but it is not Abandoned for PlayStation 5. Earlier today, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed a trailer for Abandoned, which is a horror project from developer Blue Box Games. But that trailer, and the developer’s spotty history, are just odd enough to cause some people to speculate that Abandoned is secretly the next game from Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima. That is not the case.

One of the reasons people believe Abandoned is from Kojima is because it’s difficult to find a lot of information about Blue Box Games. But that isn’t because it is a shell corporation for Kojima Productions. Instead, Blue Box is simply a small studio that has never released a major console game before.

Blue Box’s website is dead. It has a game in Early Access on Steam that it has stopped updating. And it has yet another similar game that it attempted to launch on Steam’s now-defunct Greenlight program.

I get it, though. Maybe Kojima was playing the long-con. And it was him behind this studio all along. He was simply waiting for the moment to strike, and that time has come.

But the biggest piece of evidence I have that Abandoned is not a Kojima joint is that Kojima is in talks with Microsoft about publishing his next game, according to a source familiar with the matter. And yes, that statue on Phil Spencer’s shelf was referencing a potential deal with the legendary developer. I cannot confirm if Xbox closed the deal yet, but my understanding is that Kojima is the focus of a Microsoft plan to leverage Japanese talent.

So you’ll have to enjoy Abandoned absent Kojima’s marketing stunts.
