They upgraded all their xCloud servers to Series X level hardware this year which has to have put even more pressure on Series X supply compared to Series S.

that‘s a good point. I hadn‘t thought of that. I wonder do they make less of a loss on a series s and actually what they want to increase is the subscriber numbers. I‘m not saying they are artificially limiting the x series as that is resource constrained but from a financial point of view recurring revenues is more desirable than a one time purchase.

Well MS make a loss on every Xbox console sold apparently so the focus is definitely on the services and games so I guess that is one of the main drivers to get the Xbox platform on as many different devices as it can.

Whats a VPN?

Without getting into the technical bits, a VPN service is used for encrypting your internet access. This is commonly known as a VPN tunnel. You've probably tried to access a web page or a youtube video where the content was unavailable, often with a message like "the thing you try to access is not available in your country".

One of the benefits of using a VPN service is that you can choose to browse the internet using an IP adress from other countries which will make blocked content available to you. A lot of people use this for Netflix as there are loads of movies and series not available in the UK, but going through a VPN with, say, an american IP adress will give you access to all american content.

For the first time in a (console) generation I now own both a PS5 and now a Series X! It arrived an hour ago and I have to wait till the boys get home before I set it up (got work too ffs).

I guess I got lucky, after a gaming session on Friday night I'd just finished trying Deathloop for the first time and felt like a bit of a chill before bed... Checked my Game 'All Access' tab which I've had open for weeks hoping 'out of stock' would finally change! At 1am Saturday morning, I couldn't believe my eyes, it's bloody in stock! "You have 20 minutes to complete your purchase", ewww I feel a little icky as a trawl through Klarna T&Cs, but what's not to love 0% interest 2 years of Gamepass and a Series X, yeah I could have got the Gamepass quite a bit cheaper, but £28 a month instead of £450+ on the credit card seems like a no brainer... Confirmation of order email arrived at 1:30am done and dusted :)

The next morning I had a bunch of emails from Game confirming my order and telling me it would arrive by Tuesday... Not to bad for ordering in the small hours of Saturday morning. Even better though, this morning I receive a text, You Game delivery will arrive between 11:45 and 12:45, er OK, not going to complain about that.

Yeah, I was genuinely amazed at my delivery from GAME. All access too, and it came the next day! God knows how that happened, but like you - I wasn’t gonna complain!

Ah nice, I'm not the only fool who's paid too much for gamepass then ;) Talking of which I was surprised to not find a 24month code in the box - but a bit of googling revealed the machine 'knows' it's an all access machine and you can redeem from the library (or settings) ... Is that what you experienced?

I did all access on launch and it was the same, its on the machine and you can activate it - i added a cheap year also, i very nearly messed up as I managed to get two machines on launch day but the standalone one came first, luckily i waited for the game one as i nearly gave that one to the mate i sold my spare too!

Yup, same here.

I’m not someone who necessarily does monthly subs for things, but quite honestly £30-odd a month for a couple of years (unless I decide to pay it off) is just about the right amount for me to kind of ‘forget’ about it and not worry I think!

Fuck gamepass, my wife found Bejewelled on the 360... Now she's hooked...

Boys were playing OG Doom earlier and loving it... For Fortnite and COD players they were surprisingly engaged.

This is precisely why the Series S was invented…buy a few and bung them in all the rooms!

For anyone who has the elite series 2 controller, how good is it? Does upping the tension on the sticks help with aiming?

It's very solid and feels great in your hands. Can't speak for the aiming thing as I'm too old to play online shooters these days.

You also may want to discount my opinion as I found the Series 1 Elite fine as well, whereas everyone else seems to think it's shit. I had some delamination issues with the rubber grip bits but found that so easy to repair with a bit of two pack epoxy glue as to be a non-issue.

Erm.

I realised I could use x cloud for its true purpose, and now I'm playing Peggle 2 on my phone in bed. Living the dream.

I’ve got a series 1 and now I have the 2 the 1 feels pretty cheap in comparison (and I had to install new bumpers on the first one after they broke)

I paid full whack too, although I did already max out my three year cheapy conversion so won’t be activating the two years full price until next Feb.

Paying a few quid a month for a couple of years worked out much easier than putting down a few hundred quid at the time, so no complaints here. In the words of minifigs, everything is awesome.

So, if my son signs in with his account can he access my gamepass games?

Yeah, as long as you've got a profile on that machine. It can be your home console (no need for you to be signed in) or the secondary console (you'll need to be signed in).

At some point, I hope they ditch this dopey system and make it all explicit in the Family account thing.
