I knew it was reasonably straightforward to setup and use if you were using the dev mode stuff but I hadn't realised it was this straightforward for people who didn't want to have to switch between modes.

Does it not work with an external hard drive? I tried to set it up using one, but it couldn’t see my roms.

I probably did something wrong, but I’ll follow that video above to try and sort it.

A question for those who had a faulty Elite2: my left bumper became very unreliable. I did nothing to it and it seems fine again now.

I also thought the face buttons were a bit unreliable at the time, they seem fine now too.   It's still in warranty so I'll probably raise another repair ticket near the end of the period and send it off either way, but I wondered if anyone had had a similar experience?

The bumpers on the Elite 2 controllers seem very unreliable. My left bumper is very unresponsive and isn't getting better on its own. Lots of people reporting the same problem. I tried fixing it myself but I couldn't get the face plate off the controller.

They want a small fortune to repair these things out of warranty so I'd definitely raise a repair ticket while you still can.

My Series X is borked. It seems to have lost my account details/ gamertag. I’ve re entered them but it still isn’t right.  I can’t access my games despite the hard drive showing as mostly full. I can’t get gamepass to work either.

Anyone had a similar issue. I’ve just turned it off for now in the hope that it will sort itself out.

How's your internet connection? Sounds like it could be be struggling to access the licenses etc maybe?

Can you log in to your Microsoft account on another device? Reset your password from there?

If that is OK, you know your login details haven't been stolen which would be nice. After that I'm not sure. I'd hold off on a total reset on the X.

EDIT : it's not you, it's them. Hold on for a bit.

The password entry was fine. It just can’t see my games, access the internet, see my external drives or basically do anything apart from turn on and login.

No issues as far as I am aware. When I turned it on it was like the first time you buy it where you have to do the initial setup.

I've had this problem now with both bumpers. First it was the left one, which magically fixed itself after a week or so, and now it's the right one (which would be fine for most games, except I've been mainly playing Elden Ring and Sekiro recently so yeah...).

Given what @Garwoofoo said above, I had better get that support ticket raised now before I forget and the warranty runs out.

On a completely different note, does anyone know if there is a way of doing a factory reset on a Xbox when there's no display? My Xbox One X gave up the ghost last week (after only 3 years of service - not entirely sure why,  but being pressed in service for 6-8 hours a day for a two week period when my daughter was ill and couldn't go to nursery most likely tipped it over the edge).

I have both a UK and Japanese credit card set up, and whilst the UK one has 2FA set up and thus cannot be used without the bank's app on my phone, the Japanese credit card has no such additional security so in theory if someone was able to fix the display issue then they could buy stuff on my account.

Does unregistering the device from my Microsoft account have any effect? 🤔

They really need to sort out this issue where Xbox Live goes down and you can’t load up anything at all, even games stored locally. The last time it happened, I couldn’t even play blu-rays or DVDs.

It’s bad enough in itself, but the issue is that it doesn’t even tell you what the problem is - you don’t know if your hard drive is knackered, if your account’s been hacked, if your storage is corrupted, etc etc. They need to make it a bit more generous in terms of letting you access your stuff if it can’t verify your license with the network, even if it’s only for 24hrs or so.

If they're your primary machines I'm pretty sure you can play them offline, at least it was like that on the PS4. I think. Ugh, consoles are getting complicated.

It's not something I've had to test though, short of lugging it around to a bud's and plugging it into their internet right away.

I’m moving apartment soon and I can see it taking 2 - 3 weeks to get the internet up and running. Will the PS5 and Series X be useless during this time ? All my purchases are digital

I think it’s fine if you have no internet. The problem arises when the internet is up, but Xbox Live is down, so the console is trying to sign in, but can’t.

You can use your phone as a hotspot to verify licenses if you've not set it as your primary and need to, just be careful not to download any stupidly sized updates.

reminds me of when i first got my galaxy s10 and enabled samsung cloud cos it came with a free onedrive sub and having my month's data nuked on the second day because it decided to upload all the videos i was taking at a gig instantly over 4g.

I had something similar. I film every show I play (which is quite a lot, I'm out most weekends).

It doesn't always get used for anything but we always get at least one video of the full show from somewhere on the stage. We call it the 'cover your ass camera' because if there's ever a dispute about getting paid for the show, it's good to have an objective record of what you played.

Anyway, more than once I was driving home from a show when my phone would just announce I was over my data cap. I realised it was uploading that night's videos (invariably multiple gigabytes in size) in the background - and worse, it was doing it twice, to both iCloud and Google Photos.

I'm sure I had the 'wait for wi-fi' option ticked in the respective apps, but on more than one occasion it sent them over 4G anyway.

After paying out the nose for boosters to see me to the end of the month, 100MB at a time, I changed as soon as I could on to a contract with unlimited data.

Because time has passed, I’ve gained nothing by waiting and I want one.

Your best bet, as a few people already have mentioned in this thread, is to check with Amazon daily and strike when they have a random sale. From what I've heard a lot of people have saved 10-20% on the SSDs from Amazon over the summer.

Oh I mean the consoles. I assume those don’t drop into those sales?

Ah, sorry for the mixup. I've never seen the Series X on sale but the S has been reduced quite a few times.

According to PriceSpy it has retailed for as little as £169
