Immortals Fenyx Rising - Burp of the Wild

I am mostly using the axe - 21 hours in, and could do with it on a different button I guess but it’s not too bad. Sprint as square also slightly annoying, but it’s fine.

What annoys me more is that I push touchpad and it never default to the bloody map.

Still, I’m very much enjoying this - a lot. Some of the puzzles are quite tricky too, it feels well designed.

Interesting discussion but I do wonder how long you’ve put into the game? It sounds like the puzzles you come across are all the dead simple beginning variety. Holding my hands up here - I’ve only finished the prologue so have nothing really to contribute for or against.

One thing I can say is that the commentary on the controls is pretty much hogwash; the default control scheme for the Creed games also have attacks on the shoulder buttons...

And any comparisons to Gameloft are quite amusing, because that company was founded by Guillemot.

I'm a good few hrs in. Up to the bit with the 3 Rifts and Aphrodite's Tears. Within the first couple of hrs, all the points I've made become pretty obvious. Whilst the world is certainly very pretty, it's superficial, isn't memorable and holds little to no exploration or sense of adventure. Its just crammed with an endless checklist of busy work,.loot and crap to collect, that is everywhere and not even spaced out well. Its poor design. Literally having 3-4 almost identical chest "puzzles", (I don't consider stacking 3 crates on 3 pads, or pressing 3 switches etc as puzzles), at the side of one another to "discover" in the World is absolutely abysmal design. Not sure how anyone could argue otherwise!

In terms of the controls for combat.....I'm playing on Hard. At least at the start of the game, many of the enemies have huge health bars you need to chip away at, almost to the same extent as a Dark Souls boss! You have to repeatedly hammer R1, R1, R1 or R2, R2, R2 in quick succession. The battles can go on for minutes at a time and certainy leave my hands feeling pretty fatigued,.and I play Guitar, Bass, Piano egg a lot. It would make far more sense to be pressing face buttons with that kind of combat, which most definitely is pretty fast paced.

Onto the third main area for me. Athena.

First meetings with Ares and Athena (Chicken and Child) were both genuinely quite funny IMO.

It certainly does! Someone that has their own opinion and doesn't just agree with everyone else.

Would be interested to read why people ghink this game is well designed and doesn't contain a boat load of crap all over the map, as everything i've stated, whilst my own opinion, is very much true.

But yeah, I think we should move on too, before certain folk spend more time discussing my viewpoints of a game, rather than the game itself, just because I don't share their personal opinion!

On the PC (but using an xbkx pad) you can  choose which page you default to. Map is obviously the most useful so no idea why they didn't set that as the default in the first place...

Because the gameworld does not need to feign realism like it does in assassins creed. It’s a compact zone system with the story allowing all the stuff to be placed in relatively close proximity.

As has been stated by a number of people you don’t have to do any of the optional ‘shit on the map’ if you don’t want to and you don’t have to scan any of it. I might be wrong but you’ve managed to ignore that retort every time somebody has countered your comments.

The world is colourful and vibrant and I’m perfectly happy with the layout.

People have countered your combat points, your ease of puzzle points, your layout points, your lack of variety points and you’ve ignored most of it so to think you’re objectively correct is insane

You’re allowed your own opinion but you should accept that people are not dribbling simpletons for liking it and also accept that it’s just not for you.

You can make criticisms without coming across as shouty and rude.

I think any merit in his criticisms is tempered somewhat by only playing it for a few hours. He’s probably spent longer attacking it on here.

This is a flawed game and a lot of the side missions are window dressing. But the fact it’s accessible, fun and easy to pick up means I’ll forgive it a lot. It’s a B-movie Zelda and that’s no bad thing.

Quick tip for riding.

You seem to get 300 Ubisoft Coins by default which can afford you one of the special steeds. If you get one the horse by default has 3 stamina bars in constraint to default steeds 1. So it’s a worthwhile thing to get when bombing around the areas.

I found a purple unicorn with 3 stamina bars in the first area. Not sure if they're randomly populated or not but it's meant it's never really been worth my while trying to get another horse, although I did tame a golden horse just because it looked nice even though it only has 2 stamina bars. To be honest the map is so dense I rarely use the horses anyway.

I'm starting to get a bit bored with the enemy variety. If there was one thing I wouldn't have wanted them to steal from BOTW it would have been having very few enemy types and then just scaling them up by changing their colour. I'm so tired of fighting bears, birds and boars especially, but also that big slug type enemy has become incredibly prevalent recently for some reason. I actively try to avoid a lot of the mobs on the field now which is a shame because I do enjoy the combat system when I'm fighting the rarer enemy types.

Thanks for the map tips. 22 hours in, facepalm!!

I like the size of the game world. I also felt that at the start the puzzles were formulaic but there are lots of twists on basic mechanics later on which I liked. The God vaults are excellent.

I realise I don’t have to do any of the optional shit. My point was that there is no real exploration or sense of adventure or even achievement because there is just too much stuff spewed over the map, that is unavoidable and forced down your throat. The problem is also that the main quest stuff is pretty much identical. For example, on my way to another main location I encounter 6-7 more optional “do 3 things to open chest tasks”. When I finally get to the main quest location what does it ask me to do? Find 3 nearby items and put them on 3 pedestals. I then have to go to another location to find 3 more nearby items/switches to place on pedestals/turn on. How anyone finds this stuff fun and rewarding is beyond me!

Cut say 80% of the crap on the map. Instead just put your best puzzles and tasks in and make them distinctive and unique. Now spend more time making the world distinctive and interesting to explore, and make sure that the 20% of stuff you left in, is hidden and mysterious and exciting to discover. Create some mystery and adventure. Some magic and wonder. Mix things up. Riddles, treasure hunts, complex multi layered puzzles, secrets to discover. There’s so much more you can do!

I’ve not ignored anyone’s opinions. Nor have I said anyone is a “drooling simpleton” for liking this game. That’s what you’re saying right there. I’ve clearly stated that if you like it, enjoy it, get fun out of it, then great. That doesn’t mean it’s a well designed game though.

I’ve also said that I find the game so disappointing because it could be absolutely fucking phenomenal. There’s so much already in place that could be used to create an incredible game. The building blocks of the world, the combat mechanics, the mythology. The graphics in particular are incredibly pretty and colourful too. Instead though, it’s lowest common denominator stuff. Game design by numbers. Ubisoft at their worst. It’s pretty depressing really and just makes me wish Nintendo’s machine was more capable and could pump out stuff like the PS5/Series X. Look at what they did with the Switch. Now imagine what they could achieve with something as powerful as the next gen machines.

However, once again, people are having a go at what I have to say, telling me how I’m supposed to post, trying to stop any real discussion by marginalising any opposing opinions to their own. It’s weird herd like behaviour.

Hey guys I really don't like this and I'm going to tell you why over and over and over so you all get it and respect my superior intellect.

Then I'll tell you why again.

It’s called discussion mate. People have different opinions and discuss them and respond to what other people have said. You don’t seem to have any problem with people repeating that they like the game, so what’s the problem with me airing my opinion in response to others posts that are quoting mine?

You do realise you’re not even discussing the game at all and just posting about me and my views? I’m flattered that you care so much! Lol. How about sticking to talking about the game though?

Yeah, that’s a good way of describing it. The map is just way too dense and there’s too much packed into it. It could do with some space and room for stuff to breathe.

I’m just a few hrs in and I’m also finding the enemies and their variety repetitive, especially with how they’re placed into the world. The core combat is decent enough, however fighting the same enemies, especially when they’re so prevalent on the map and need to also be beaten for certain chests, tasks etc too, gets old pretty quickly.

Fucked off with Wraith Zones, Achilles needs to die.

I would just go and kill them as soon as possible. Their lairs appear the first time they show up. You can also seemingly fast travel to where Hermes is and wait it out, if you're underlevelled.

I find Typhon randomly shouting "I AM PERFECT" really odd and irritating. Especially when it's not accompanied by any enemies - he just shouts at you for a bit and then stops.

Just don't do enough damage. It's absolute attrition without poweringg up, but then I've not done much of that. I'm about 8 hours in, so I'll go and do some quest stuff.

Have you got both upgrades for the hammer?

Get both upgrades for the hammer...it does some serious damage

Edit: and if you think he’s annoying wait until you meet Atlantia and her fucking bear
