Hogwarts Legacy - Not as good as Dog Kid University

This is a fascinating discussion, I think we have a thread for it in Off Topic. I thought what @Broker wrote was pretty compelling, despite my promoting wallet voting multiple times across many threads. I mean, food is so damn expensive now that I'm back to Walmart for certain stuff, so I'm definitely back to propping up billionaires again.

Just seeing the "official leak" of where the next AC game is set has me perked up and interested, but Ubisoft management are dicks.

I dunno, if you're a parent, raise your kids not to be arseholes. Perhaps we'll perpetuate less of this toxic bullshit.

Your argument is one of hypocrisy and you know it. Watching the World Cup is approval of Qatar, it is the one thing they want beyond all else. You’re a hypocrite if you watch it and criticise them at the same time, that’s a fact.

Please continue to tell me how the world works. It's like being back in 6th form. Great times.

Personally I really don't think at this point people can pay money for officially licensed HP products and be under any illusions that they aren't contributing to the hatred she continues to spew

I'm not sure there's a direct connection between buying a plastic wand and the stuff she comes out with, she's just copied that line off Gervais anyway.

She gets paid extra for evey piece licenced tat sold. It's not hard to understand, she and her people sell and approve the use of the license and earn royalties on top of that. The money she earns allows her to comfortably sit on her ass spewing terf hatred into social media without a care in the world.

But @Giddas isn't sure so can still buy this game without being a bad person, right? I mean we're not sure she's a complete cunt or that she benefits from its sale are we? We've not seen her accounts or anything.

Yeah, boycott this game to feel good about yourself, I'm sure JK won't be able to afford her broadband connection any more and will stop. I won't be buying it anyway but it's not because I'm on some futile moral mission.

Admittedly, boycotting the game isn't about to make her as financially bankrupt as she is morally, but imagine the ripples if this sure fire hit was to bomb even slightly. Now imagine the message it would send to her if it were to fail completely.

It all matters.

Perhaps it’s better called solidarity or its opposite. And that’s not futile, I’d argue it’s very important in our current context.

Yeah, you're being an ally. I would love for someone to make the case for that not being important.

I assume anyone being supportive of that community also isn't playing or buying Ubisoft or Activision-Blizzard games either right?

I've no interest in Potter so it's easy to ignore at least. But it is interesting seeing the popularity of the Overwatch thread how some publishers/creators/issues/behaviours are perceived versus others. Be it organisational sexism and abuse, crunch, terf-ing, whatever.

The test is when the thing you love or like the look of turns up. And I don't think most of this forum is buying or playing this regardless of Rowling's disgusting views.

I'd suggest focussing your energy somewhere else, Linehan is skint now, his wife left him and he's still a twat.

However, I can appreciate the ally side of things and not "supporting" her, I just don't believe it will cause Rowling to moderate her behaviour at all.

Of course it won’t. We could cut off all revenue streams and she’d still have enough money to campaign for life - but as you say, there’s the ally side of it and showing solidarity with the people she is punching firmly down on.

Like, not buying a video game is super easy. It’s even easier than actually buying one - so while Rowling isn’t going to miss my pennies, the load on me is also negligible, and speaking about why you’re not making a purchase and don’t like where the money is going can actually be pretty helpful in terms of raising awareness.
