Can't act shocked this happened the day after it was released because it was inevitable.

Just to be sure, are you saying that you believe the girls death is linked to the release of this game? That is what it reads like.

I think the success of the game emboldened JK (as she has publicly said sales of the franchise prove her 'right') as well as her followers and others influenced by her such as the Government, people on social media etc to act in an extreme manner. So indirectly yes I do; who is going to be more aware of this kids game, it's sales and the issues surrounding it then the target audience which her and her murderers are? It's likely not a coincidence that this happened at the peak of the discussion/furore over it. So yes, I do. Could of course be wrong and it may be completely unrelated - actually I'd prefer that because a life being lost over something as insignificant as a pathetic little wizard game is just so sad.

I've been thinking this was made by the team who made the Just Cause games and Mad Max. I was thinking yeah Just Cause 4 was rubbish but maybe they were concentrating their efforts on this. Not really being surprised it was so good as they know how to make open world games that have great combat and traversal. Turns out I was mixing up Avalanche Studios and Avalanche Software. The latter who made this just made Cars and Disney licenced games. Surprised it has turned out so good.

Whatever the reason it’s an absolute tragedy, but shouldn’t we at least wait for some more information before jumping to conclusions? Believing it’s a consequence of this games release, directly or otherwise, only leads to more confusion, anger and hatred.

How would this conversation go if the person who murdered Brianna Ghey was also transgender?

I'm more interested in the hypothetical scenario where you're no longer able to post on this forum.

5 years of development and shit loads of money.

Although Infinity and it’s  nascent predecessor Toy Story 3 have very much been sold short. They were actually quite decent games with a very competent creation tool that were stymied only by a slightly janky engine.

I really liked all three of the Infinity games.

This however is real different ball park stuff.

That’s clearly nonsense though isn’t it.

Rowling hasn’t said a dickie bird about the success of game (I mean it’s only been out four days anyway) and on the balance of probabilities it’s highly unlikely that the release of game most closely related in most people’s minds to a beloved kids franchise made two teenagers decide to kill a girl.

There’s an argument to be made that Rowling’s very public views (that’s Rowling not bloody Harry Potter) have changed the public narrative around trans rights and could have inspired hate actions that resulted in such a crime (I’d suggest thats tenuous but I’ll accept its there), but it’s got the square root of fuck all to do with a game about Wizards being released on Friday and a teenager being murdered on Sunday.

And of course this is all assuming the poor girls death is linked  to the fact she was a trans woman and not any other factor of which we have no idea of at this stage.

I really struggle to understand what people get from defending this little wizard game, Harry Potter and JK Rowling. Like, typing the above bunch of posts and thinking 'I'm happy with that' then being pleased with themselves because they have stood up for the poor huge corporation and the hateful multimillionaire transphobe. Utterly baffling.

It’s possible to believe that this murder has nothing to do with JK Rowling, Harry Potter or Hogwarts Legacy without defending them. They are not mutually exclusive views.

Veering back to the actual game, they really fucked up with the alohomora spell, instead of just opening the bloody lock, like, you know, fucking magic, it kicks off a mini game where you have to rotate the sticks to the correct points, just like in the Arkham games. They were shit in those games, and they're worse in this because these locks or bloody everywhere, I'm sick of doing this mini-game, so if I do a replay I'll be looking for a mod on PC to cut it out completely. It should actually be a standard option to skip it.

I just couldn’t do the first lockpicking, I just couldn’t figure out what the link was between the sparks and making it work. Spent 5 minutes on it and then called my wife to have a go and she did it in 5 seconds. Sadly she didn’t know what she did either :)

A few hours in and my Witch, Ava Rayncraft, has had a couple of lessons and a dual and shown up my fellow students for the chumps they are.

I got sorted into Slytherin and whilst the common room is a bit drab I’m confident it’s the right house for my ambition. It doesn’t seem like the dialogue choices have much impact so far but I’m taking the opportunity to be as patronising as possible to everyone I speak to. If anything, the Slytherins I’ve spoken to thus far seem a little wet but hopefully they can learn from my examples.

The faces can be a tad rubbery at times - your in game model doesn’t match up to the one you make in character creation - and the lip sync isn’t up to the standard you’ll see in TLOU (part 1 and 2) or Horizon Forbidden West and the pupils in particular have a bit of a glazed look of them. But that might just be how they act in the presence of greatness.

I don’t think I’d call myself a big fan but I enjoyed the books and the films for what they were so seeing it come to life so faithfully is quite something. I imagine that for a really dedicated Potter head this would be close to mind blowing. That bit in Gringotts was straight out of the cinema.

Also, stroked a cat (was unable to blast it with my wand.) Looking forward to clearing up the busy work with the teachers and getting down to running around looting, murdering and (hopefully) grassing the other kids up and making them rue the day they ever got on that train.

Do you not have vibrate on the pad? That helps you. You rotate the right stick until the bottom right part of the lock spins and glows green, you rotate the left stick until the exact centre of the lock spins. The pad will vibrate when you hit the right spots.

Either way, it's a shit and very old mechanic. Much like the books this game is based on, this game is derivative, standing on the shoulders of giants. But despite that it is a good game.

Another few hours on the game tonight.  On the third trial and it’s a lovely reference to something which I won’t spoil.  Spent most of the evening spending time with Poppy, Nate and the grumpy guy.

I presume you hang out with different buddies depending on the house you’re in?

It appears you get one best buddy from each house as a lead so doesn’t actually matter which house you are in (I imagine the dialogue remains the same).

My current best bud is the uncharacteristically pleasant Slytherin who I smashed in the duelling competition. I was less keen on the Gryffindor who kicked my arse playing wizard boules. I am a Ravenclaw.

That wizard boules thing was surprisingly tricky I thought, it was my first lesson and I imagined that they’d rig it slightly to make it easier to win but, no, she gets a perfect score on the first round . Fortunately she didn’t on the second one and I did and I hope she’s crying in her dorm. Slytherin buddy was surprisingly chirpy after I battered him in front of all his mates in the dark arts class and I resented him for not cowering in fear at my overpowering magic. He will learn. They will all learn.

On another note, I’m extremely interested to see how they get this running on a switch.

It will be a proper ‘low settings’ job but still probably won’t look too bad.

This kind of continual, absurd hysteria has drawn more attention to the game than any marketing campaign ever could, and it's been rewarded with record breaking sales.

I've lived through a lot of 'ban this sick filth' entertainment media. The video nasties of the 80's. Mortal Kombat and Night Trap hysteria of the 90's. To a lesser extent the 'ban' on Manhunt in the 00's. Not one of them did anything but drive people to seek them out.

This constant drive by insults toward users playing the game will do nothing but annoy them and drive a wedge through an already small community. If you want it to get smaller by attacking people who've done nothing wrong but want to talk about one of if not THE biggest game of the year then you carry on.

For the record, I have not and have no intentions of buying this game, but I can't fucking stand censorship of any kind.

Can’t wait to post my Gary Glitter thread in the music forum and respond with this to every negative reply.
