Do you get to throttle your chairman for being a lying spiv, and remove your deputy chairwoman by throwing her out of the stadium and into the rapids at Lee Valley water park ? And do you get to play the academy prospects instead of selling them to your rivals, and then not reinvesting the profit ?

If so I’m in.

Using the power of Series S|X to add extra leagues!

question is, will the series X run more leagues than the series S?  I'm sure it could, but if MS want to push the narrative that the only difference is, essentially, the ability for 4k, this could be an early test to that narrative.

I've never played the Touch versions - any good?

I'm so conditioned to mouse and keyboard having played them since original Champ Man days, I'm not sure how well I'd adapt.

I've toyed with them a few times.  They're very good, and in many ways probably more true to the old school CM style, but I can never shake the feeling that I'm missing out on the full experience, despite that full experience then somtimes being overwhelming when i sit down and play at my PC.  The databases are still big, but on Touch you're a lot less likely to be able to find that 17 year old colombian centre forward, playing in the mexican second division, who turns into a story for you.  You're more restricted to shopping for players that you know in real life, in my (admittedly limited) experience.

  • 1 month later...

Spent the day refreshing Twitter for #FM21Beta but it’s not out.  So spent this evening updating all my graphic packs, including the time consuming kits from Sortitoutsi.net

Hopefully the beta is out tomorrow!  What an evening it’ll be, setting up a Series X and starting pre season with Liverpool (always them on the beta)

Can’t wait!

I'm still on FM 19, purely because I'm still enjoying my career there. Joined Cork City in 2035 with them struggling in the league as defending champions and somehow qualified for the CL, thus allowing me to completely overhaul the team. Reached the knockout stages in 2037/38, and then the 2039 Europa League final where we lost 3-2 to Sevilla despite our best efforts after going 3-0 down.

As I'm also Ireland manager, I've opted to try to develop Irish youth. So naturally, the best player to come through my youth system has been Iñaki López, who prefers to represent Spain and was quickly receiving bids from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético. So he went as soon as he came, for a minimum of £9m, but with a loan back clause for two years. He's still here. He's doing alright. Who'd he go to?

Sevilla. Couldn't play him in the final.

fucking el, if they cant get this right, makes you wonder about the rest of their "data" :P

This is in jest, but, c'mon, its 20, he should be the only 20! but dont get me started on the liverpool bullshit stats again though...firmino is apparently a better CB than most CB's and Taa is a better passer than Thiago...sure....sure

Other than that how is the game this year? I've already bought it obviously but haven't played it yet.

The biggest change I noticed while watching a quick stream yesterday was the condition stat is now a heart icon with 4 (I think) levels/colours which after an initial disgusted reaction, I think is probably better as is often okay someone at 99% condition over someone at 94% pretty much every time

He's ridiculously strong.  I thought it was all a bit of a meme, the FIFA stats, his branding, etc.  But we (Wednesday) played them a couple of weeks ago and we have an absolute unit of a CB...I don't remember him winning a header against Akinfenwa, and he's 3 inches taller!  I think he only lost one header all game and that was because our winger jumped, Akinfenwa didn't move and he just got launched over the top of him.

any set values in the DB will be set, its only players that have unset values that can change. But, it does seem to be wrong, but that was more a silly thing. ..ive reported in the data post at Si lol

The ones that are bollox tho are the liverpool ones, they have been vastly overated for years now! im sorry but, firmnio having marking 13, tackling 14, and positing 14!?! thats a decent defenders stats!?! TAA has passing of 18!?!?! higher than thiago! - there isnt any point reporting these, lpool fnas will just scream it down...

It turns out, the SI forums dont five a fuck, so, ill just fix it myself when the game launches properly!

From a mod there :-

"Attributes are a gauge of how well they deploy that ability on the pitch. While overall strength is of course of a contributing factor the most poignant example is that time Usain Bolt decided to give football a go. In a lot of instances on the pitch, he didn't look overly fast because he lacked the ability and understanding to put it to use in a footballing context. It's going to need a better argument to warrant a change, especially given how little impact a change of 1 would have on him in the game."

me - ...what a strange argument...Bolt is a sprinter, who decided to give footy a go (and he isnt a very good player)....Akinfenwa is a seasoned professional footballer of 20 years!, who massively uses his strength to his advantage in holding up play, bringing in players, and shrugging off defenders!? To try and argue for him being anything other than a 20 is mind boggling...next you will be saying Firminos defensive stats(that make him better than most defenders are A ok!

"And yet an attribute of 19 lets him do all those things perfectly fine. So again it comes back to, given how little impact a change of 1 would have, it's got to be a better reasoning if you want a researcher to react to it. The fact its 19 in the first place as you're saying would suggest the researcher doesn't agree.

My sole interest is in trying to make sure people are posting in a way that gives researchers something to work with. I don't actually care enough to offer my personal opinion on Akinfenwa either way because I've barely seen him play."

Tbf some attributes are weighted more than others. I think Str is worth a ton of CA points whereas lesser attributes can be worth 1 CA point. The higher the attribute out of 20, the more 'weight' it holds over the spread. Its why you see a lot of very pacey players looking bang average in other key areas (bar Mbappe but, well, its Mbappe).

It actually isnt that easy weighting everything so the player performs in game roughly how he would in real life. 19 and 20 strength will barely have any descernible difference in the ME, but may mean the game weights him as even slower, or fairly shitter in another attribute due to balance of attribute points. That ir you mske his CA higher which again could fuck the balance of his ability for the league he's in, aka OP.

I do think some of the balance is mind-boggling though, TAA is obscene and can play any role anywhere.

Can't say I've ever been bothered by the attributes players have. How long are they going to last for anyway - a few months? Then before you know it they've trained or got injured or been replaced at the whims of you, the AI, or the random number gods.

Play the numbers you're dealt, that's what I say.

Talk of TAA being moved further up the pitch into midfield has been a thing for a long time purely because of his ability, so that's not exactly out of place.
