Grand Theft Auto VI - Leaking all over the place

Will be really interesting to see if and how the tone changes now that Dan Houser and Lazlow are no longer there as they really were the head honchos of the writing team.

I think it was Dan Houser who said that parodying and satirising the present-day US was a bit pointless because it’s become so extreme and polarised under Trump that it seems like fiction itself. That suggested to me that they were looking at something a little different for GTA6.

No idea of the legitimacy of this supposed leak but I could well believe it. Would be great for the series to stretch beyond the US again.

I’ve loved all their games and their world-building is absolutely second to none and raises the bar each and every time, but they really really need to open up their restrictive mission design this time round. That shit just won’t fly anymore.

Yeah, could be amazing if R* finally figure out how to make a responsive third-person avatar, a way to free-aim a weapon accurately and some up-to-date mission design. At this stage I'd be happy with a pure GTAOnline sequel that can be played solo or with friends. That seems like the best hope for GTA getting back to its sandbox roots.

Hope springs eternal. They have made slow but steady progress on the mechanics of their games, apart from some dispute over whether the driving mechanics have progressed or regressed. The earlier 3D games were sub-par mechanically, but at least the latest one is semi-passable, given the scope.

Or maybe it's too much for anybody to take on in a single sprawling virtual reality project, no matter how many years or bodies you throw at the problem.

Though The Benz's upcoming game might offer a more interesting implementation of online multiplayer.

Someone hasn’t played RDR2. I know a lot of people like to say you’re supposed to be playing a big, slow character, but it really didn’t feel like progress to me. In fact, it felt like a step back from the original.

I hope they can move it forward though. I do love a bit of GTA.

I also haven't played the original so have zero point of reference for that, while I have played all 5 major 3D iterations of GTA (and the mainline 2D entries), and GTA V is the best mechanically, but still noticeably below dedicated mechanics games.

They've skipped an entire hardware generation so I think expectations should be set very high, no excuses about shit hardware holding the implementation back this time, just money now, and if anybody has the money to do a virtual world right, it's Rockstar.

Well, I'm sold. Where can I pre-order?

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-11-24-the-latest-focus-of-gta-6-rumours-a-dirt-road-in-virginia

Given the enormous commercial success of GTA 5, it feels almost inevitable we're going to see a sequel at some point, but that hasn't stopped fans from trying to read tea leaves to figure out exactly when GTA 6 is going to release. Once again, fans think they've found a reference to GTA 6 - and this time it's centred on a dirt road in the middle of Virginia. That's certainly a little off the beaten track.

The wild theory began when Rockstar published a teaser for the new GTA Online update, at the bottom of which fans spotted a set of GPS coordinates.

Popping these coordinates into Google Maps or Earth lands you at Middle Mountain Trail, a deserted track in the middle of Virginia. Yet as noted by Kotaku, fans think the shape of the road is actually a clue for GTA 6. The trail looks a little like the Roman numeral VI, and this has sent fans into a bit of a tizzy.

"I checked it out, and it definitely says VI on the ground," said user gloomindoomin. "It's far from the release, but we got the first obvious sign from Rockstar, so congratulations."

I mean, there are a lot of shapes that could be, but you can definitely argue that's a VI.

There are plenty of fan theories out there about GTA 6, but given this one stemmed from an official teaser, it's quite funny to imagine Rockstar could be sending fans to scrabble around in dirt tracks for clues about GTA 6. Let's hope it's not just a road to nowhere.

I'm super late to respond to this, but I would absolutely love a GTA game that allowed my computer person to move and control like the computer person I have in The Division. It would completely change the feel of the game on foot, of course, but I'm not wholly convinced that's a bad thing.

With regard to the OP in this thread, the new GTA Online expansion (due in December) adds a tropical island to the game - so maybe the island map at the start of this thread refers to that, rather than to GTA 6.

The new island looks pretty small, so probably wouldn't match scale wise.

I'm never sure how seriously to take such rumours, but I do enjoy the effort that the batshit insane GTA community puts into investigating them. As ever, we'll not really know anything until there's a real announcement.

I certainly agree with the general sentiment in here that GTA mechanically feels ancient now, though I'm sceptical that they'll do anything to update any of that. As JPL said, RDR2 controls like shit and is a real step backwards for their controls, and I think because they know whatever they put out will sell incredible numbers there's not a lot of incentive to spend a lot of money improving anything when they could basically use the same engine and the thing will most likely shit money out regardless.

There’s been a bunch of new “leaks” over the last few weeks. Someone posted a video apparently showing the map, it’s wobbly and shit but obviously someone stitched together the whole map from the blurry, shaky video:

This is apparently the map of the Florida area, as the video is moving around you can see location names so someone added all of them:

Included in the locations is a theme park, which has its own leaked map.

Then there’s a few leaked screenshots:

The second one looks totally fake, it’s harder to tell with the first.

I just hope it's more systems based than continual "go here, shoot people, go over there" . I doubt it will be but I'd love it if they added the Chinatown wars drug economy and allow heists you can design yourself a bit more.

The ludonarrative dissonance just gets a bit too much for me otherwise these days.

Dude that city has been done to death. Vice City, Vice City Stories, Driver, DRIV3R, Scarface ... There are more than 3 cities in the USA.

Sick of retreading old territory. R* just regurgitates and redresses its past content. Half of RDR2's map is RDR1.

Vice City was three console generations and 20 years ago. I think you could argue that GTA works better doing ever more impressive renditions of the most iconic US cities rather than taking the Assassins Creed route and ending up with GTA 1950s San Diego or something.

Vice City on PS5 would be an entirely different experience to Vice City on PS2.

Liberty City in GTA IV was nothing like its III counterpart, nor was San Andreas*, so I would doubt this Vice City is going to be anything other than superficially similar, and the surrounding areas would be all new.

*Unfortunately! The three cities with open country between them was brilliant.

Those leaks all look like a big bag of bullshit to me, but I admire the attention to detail with making it R*-like on the Quincyworld map. :P

That originated from 4chan, BTW https://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/564173936

Edit: as it hasn't been mentioned in here, the next GTA is supposed to be set in Vice City and released in 2024 at the earliest

Absolutely, I’m hoping for GTA: Tucson next myself, or at the very least GTA: Boise. Come in Rockstar, make it happen!

Nah I wanna see GTA Cedar Rapids, where instead of a crime syndicate you're managing an Arby's.

These consoles should be able to do it in exquisite detail.
