PlayStation 5 stock alerts

A genuine wild goose chase.  The scalpers got them all yesterday and it was widely reported they got 2000 consoles.  That's nothing.  Like, that's like shipping (on average) less than 3 to every Argos store in the UK. I have no idea what Sony's problem is, but until they can send 100 units to every Game, HMV, Argos, Very etc etc there's no point in launching the thing.  2000 units on a national scale is absolutely fuck all and scalpers or not, you're not getting on yet.

Stock Informer blew up again, stock back in at Currys. I was still at the head of the queue, managed to add one to the basket, but the basket glitched. I kept trying to refresh, kept showing nothing in the basket, then it booted me to the back of the queue again. Fuck this.

Same thing just happened to me. Infuriating.

Stock Informer's Telegram has removed the last couple of updates, so they must have been false positives.

As much as Sony want to get consoles out there they will also relish the demand this shit is creating and by the time everyone gets one there will be more games out.

It’s the PS2 Saddam Hussain super computer situation all over again.

Oh they will be 160,000 of those are bot accounts.

That 2000 the scalpers said they got is literally a single scalper.  There was probably many times that number of consoles.

I hope so, and I'm pretty sure the whole import and shipping malarkey right now isn't helping. Probably can't lay it all entirely at Sony's door.

It’s nuts that for most people it’s totally impossible to get one. If you’re good with tech and signing up to stick alerts, you’ve got a very slim chance (I have never used Telegram and don’t understand it).

The system is unintentionally but massively rigged in favour of scalpers. Even if I sign up for alerts, it’s not like I could drop what I was doing and start online shopping.

Become a scalper.  Seriously.  Set up bots and everyone on the forum work together to get one for all of us.  The scalpers are proving that it's easy to get them if you make the same level of effort.

Managed to get lucky with Currys this morning. I think I got one at the very moment they finally sold out. Was in "queue" for an hour. Just very lucky I think.

Would recommend putting this on in the background while you work. It plays a sound when it detects stock and lag is only about 10 seconds. Have all the retailers open in tabs. Amazon and Argos still to come this week.

If you’re using Stock Informer, install the Telegram app, then click the link on their website to join the channel.

For what it’s worth, being in the channel and getting the alerts hasn’t helped me so far.

I really thought this one might have been the one, too.

Well I joined their PS5 channel and it's not done a thing since I joined over a week ago.

Was it ever actually verified that the scalper group got 2000 PS5s from Game?

I'm sure they got plenty of them but giving publicity to that sort of claim is the sort of thing that would lead to genuine customers not even bothering to try and buy one from Currys etc. which then makes it easier for scalpers to secure more stock.

Although it very easy to fake such a thing given the order screenshots have all identifying info blurred out. Before Christmas there was a pretty funny meme on Twitter where people would pretend to be scalpers and post obviously internet sourced pictures of various freaky looking people saying 'just dropped off a PS5 to another satisfied customer'. Trolling, in other words. And this 'carnagebot' is trying to extract money from people for their bot service, so it could well be a fake.

Is any stock actually reaching physicla stores? Seems unfair if not for those people without access to broadband (& lazy by Sony/reseller)

No, Sony have dictated that any consoles are to be sold online, because Coronavirus. It's frustrating, but I completely agree with their stance on that one.

Are people still buying from scalpers, or are they just going to be sat on a pile of them? Surely the time has passed that someone would spend £800 with Christmas gone?

A cursory look on ebay shows that even today the disc version is going from £700-£800.

Although this one is funny

I bet there are still plenty of people willing to buy at inflated pricing - there are more people out there willing to drop £800 on a PS5 than you might think, especially now those people don't have holidays to spend their money on.

The seller has the absolute cheek to charge £26 postage on top of the £5k for the PS5.

Wow.

If one outfit grabbed 2000 then that is, assuming a mark up of £200 per unit, a £400,000 profit?

Fucking hell. I can see organized crime being into bots...

I was thinking more of the likes of Tesco, Sainsburys, ASDA etc.

It's non-essential. Could you imagine the bad press that SONY would get it queues of people started showing up as Sainso's trying to buy a PS5.

As far as SONY is concerned, i'm sure they are not happy lots of consoles are still sitting around in boxes.

They want people using them to buy games and subscriptions.

If you’re willing to spend £800+ on a console I’d imagine you’d be a big spender on games. It’s better for Sony than selling a PS5 to the person that only plays FIFA or Call of Duty.
