Confirmed?

It was mostly a joke call back to last weeks episode of TCGS, was expecting @elmo to have picked up on it.

But.. joking aside, the post office chap at my local has been aftr one since before launch and he did mention that Argos was getting somein tomorrow, fuck knows if he's right, but I suspect he's been following every possible forum and seen the same info that gets posted every week.

I do feel a bit sorry for him, he's said that some bloke ( not me! ) has been shipping quite a few through our local post office, must be gutting to have to serve a scalper whilst they are scalping the very thing you want to buy but cant , mostly because you're at your job facilitating their scalping when they are buying them :(

I woke up at 3:40 or something, not on purpose, just woke up, looked at Argos, site was down, restarted the pod and went back to sleep :)

i really do feel sorry for all those people who are staying up night after night over these rumours. It’s mad.

definitely, it's just madness, if there ha been one there by some miracl, I'd have bought it and let the chap at the post office have it for cost, I kind of feel bad for him , trying for months and just being left frustrated :(

Personally, I'll stick with the Series X ;)

But tell me again how they'd rather real people bought them not bots.

(And yes, obviously that wasn't you Mike)

By rights, I "should" be trying to get as many of these and flip them as I can, reselling is my bloody job... It just doens't seem right tbh, so many unhappy people, I can't be a part of it.

Dropping at such a stupid time IS daft, but Argos have actual shops, they could make it click n collect only really, I know it's not the safest with Covid, but it could be workable as most are inside Supermarkets now.

It's going to be insane trying to get one of these just now. I'd imagine a lot of parents told their kids they'd get a PS5 when they came back into stock, so there's bound to be loads on stockinformer waiting for the siren to go off. Add folks who weren't too bothered but with lockdown extending and no winter breaks have decided they'd like one (me) and greedy people still wanting to buy as many as possible and flip on eBay or straight to CEX, it's going to be chaos.

PS5s make up a tiny proportion of Argos' turnover. I imagine they chuck it on at 3am because they don't want it broken during the day by this lot:

Yeah I'd imagine that's the reason. I mean so many sites have gone down for ages because of PS5 drops. Shoot have been absolutely pummelled for hours at a time.

I wonder how many the UK actually got as I've seen scalpers selling eu plug ones as well.

Then again, I also know someone that bought one for about 700 quid on ebay or whatever, so although I find it weird, I do have knowledge of people using bots, scalpers, multiple orders across various sites and people willing to pay unnecessary amounts so it's not like it's a shock this is happening.

Still seems weird though, especially given it's a little bit "ps has no games" as it often is for most new gens recently. Although if anything it seems to be "new console has remasters of last gen games or cross gen". It's strange getting old :)

:D You just get more cynical as you get older...

Think these days more people use tech than used to do. Gaming is massive these days than it ever was so demand for anything new in tech and gaming is huge. Also they are doing mostly world wide releases these days. Remember years ago when we used to get a console what a year at time after release elsewhere? Coupled with the complexity of new technology and the more complex production processes etc can see why all this happens these days.

Perhaps the manufacturers so go back to staggering releases in different territories. And then doing mass releases in each one when they have build enough stock up. DIdn't the PS3 release 3-4 months in the EU/UK after US/Japan for example?

Anyhow it is what it is I guess. And true nothing much *new* to play on any of the two new consoles.

Yeah, I was just rambling really.

I'd have bought one by now if they had the stock and I could just wander into my local big Tesco or curry's or whatever but I just find it odd.

I suppose part of it is the fact that so many people do play games these days (even if they play crap games :P ) that these shortages happen.

I remember people not even knowing what the dreamcast was even when the logo was on arsenal's kit! :D

That's because sega UK spent the entire dreamcast PR budget getting the logo on arsenal's kit.

Yeah I know, not even having the word Sega on it was always weird.

Then again, I knew LOADS of people that didn't know what the wiiU was (despite enjoying and owning a wii) and about a year into me owning one. I can only assume Nintendo just pissed all that ad budget up the wall.

I went to the launch party at Highbury, that was a strange evening, got a free goodie bag of hat / t-shirt and some other bumf, plus there was free booze, it was ALL about the free booz, had to cover my train fare somehow :-p

DC was great, shame the PS2 happened to it :(

Indeed! :) Also the days before the web was huge too and mobile phones didn't do the internet very well. The web is a blessing and a curse at times these days. Basically most people have access to the web 24/7 anywhere so the mass hysteria hype spreads rapidly and drives demand about anything new. World we live in these days I guess and people expect everything yesterday too. Imagine if people now had to wait 3 months to a year after a gaming console was released in US or Japan! :D

Wonder how much the pandemic has added to the problem. Perhaps more people are sat at home at the moment though either looking to get something to entertain them and splash some cash on or scoop up some consoles to make some extra money. Who knows...

True, although I do think that what some people on here have done out of convenience will also have caused problems. Especially as lots of people will have done similar things.

I do also wonder what's going to happen with the cex stock etc once it starts being regularly stocked in the usual places. I can't see it remaining much of a good scalpers deal soon and/ or I can forsee some early adopters selling there's on as there isn't much for them to play. Again this is totally anecdotal but this is about to happen with the aforementioned person that bought one for 600 odd. Kids aren't really playing it now and they're figuring they can get some of that back and maybe buy it again at the "normal" price later.

Either way, it's been a weird mess of a new gen launch for both ms and Sony, it's interesting.

Yep, even among people who own games consoles the prevailing impression Ninty managed to give was that the Wii U was a "PS4 Pro" not a new system.

I'm sure these posts off down memory lane are very helpful to all the people who every time they see this thread bumped assume 3 PS5s have turned up in stock at shop to or Argos.

We should have a stock thread for each shop. That would encourage discussion, or something...

Why they didn't just call it Wii2 will for ever be a mystery to my alcoholically damaged brain.
