PlayStation 5 stock alerts

There has been stock for 1 hour and 10 mins, apparently. Loads of people on the Discord have managed to get them, which is great news. Apparently it's been easy to get a standalone console from them today.

And like I said, if you post the extra stuff back, GAME will refund you.

Getting a PS5 is easy.

You should try getting through to a human at HMRC.

I'm having a bad day...

These have both been on my to-do list for the last 2 months and I haven't managed either.

At least with HMRC you expect it, but I just can't fathom why Sony is trying to make y life more difficult to this extent.

So what's the drill for trying to get hold of these? People are talking about alerts and discord and stuff. Where should I be looking? (Currently just checking Amazon every few days on the off chance but I get the feeling there's a more strategic way to do things).

Buying a PS5 is easy. Your algorithm just needs to be faster at detecting stock availability and auto-purchasing all available stock on a given website than the hundreds of scalper bots doing the same.

Piece of cake!

You'll have to be incredibly lucky to get one by relying upon happening to chance upon stock. They have been selling out in minutes since launch and restocking looks like once a month at the moment.

This is how I did it - firstly you are going to need some assistance, I found a good community discord which has been posted here a few times and lots of members have been successful using it. Follow the instructions on the rules channel. There is a separate channel to follow called #subscribe-for-alerts which will ping you when websites change stock status.

However that is probably not enough to get one at the moment, demand is so much higher than supply. You can increase your chances by making sure you can log in to the shop and check out ASAP - usually it's possible to make an account to avoid putting your details in at purchase time. Some people have gone as far as ordering cheap items in order to have stored payment details.

You're still probably going to have some issues. My bank blocked the purchase the first time I had one in a basket to the end, and they were out of stock before I even got through to the card team. I had previously failed to get to checkout a few times before the stock disappeared. I did eventually get one though.

To follow up, here's what I did. It's less of a hassle than it reads/sounds.

- Install Discord on your devices. Laptop, mobile, pc. Whatever you frequently use.

- Join the/a server. Sometimes the server is linked to a Twitch stream, sometimes it can just be found, as @DriveBymentioned, https://discord.gg/tjCzD63ajA is one for the UK.

- Once joined, set alerts for channels you want. The Irish discord also tracks controller, GPU's, charger etc. I muted all BUT PS5.

- You can mute channels by right clicking on a channel and set mute duration from 5 minutes to until unmuted.

- The Irish Discord I used did not allow chat, so it was very clean.

- As soon as the stock checker bot in the background noticed stock, an alert would immediately go out.

- With alerts set up, you get notified immediately. Act very fast and chances are you're golden. If you're making coffee when the alert goes out, you're probably too late.

To reduce stress and annoyance I decided to stick with one retailer, in my case Smyth's. They already had my details (address, billing) and I was not going to make like 6 new accounts - for Currys, Harvey Norman etc - just to get as PS5 ok.

Additionally, you can choose to keep an eye on your stock checker Twitter as well, sometimes they receive info about when a retailer is probably going to restock.

I used the discord but the Twitter account I posted on the last page came through quicker. Just turn on tweet notifications.

The discord doesn’t seem to work with Smyths, for some reason. I think Smyths have started blocking bots or something.

Having an Apple Watch helps as you get the notifications on there and you get to play this game where you try to run over to a device as quickly as possible without looking crazy to anyone around.

Yeah Apple Watch helped me score a PS5 - was having a wee when the ping arrived, which then turned into the quickest wee ever (how not even a drop didn’t go rogue is beyond me lol) and I still just managed to get the console!  I thought I would have missed out!

Who knew Sony made a Wii console?

I've given up. There's really little point for me now GT7 has been kicked into next year, if the 1p expression of interest kicks in then I'll dip in, but I refuse to get drawn into what appears to be a black friday sale in a tesco's over a shit 56" tv.

What? You’re not willing to smash a £250 Blaupunkt TV over someone’s head for the rights to buy said TV?

Yep, my method for getting one is.

1 - Wait until someone actually wants to sell me one

2 - Buy it.

If they're selling them all to bots at 3am, good for them.

Exactly. And people said Stadia was a crap launch.

They’d have my money already if they just went for the old-fashioned approach of letting me pay for one and agreed to send me one once my order got to the front of the queue - is it really that difficult?

The PS5 certainly has more original games I want to play, plus the promise of VR, but the lack of availability has really made me think it’s worth waiting a year or two for the inevitable re-vamp (and VR).

It will be interesting to see what they do with the next iteration of VR. PSVR really impressed me as did the games. Think Gran Turismo 7 and a new VR unit will be a fantastic combination. The setup will also have the power to have full on races too. :)
