PlayStation 5 stock alerts

This is all fine, I plan to slightly zing a retailer by paying for mine with a combination of nectar points and love to shop vouchers. The vouchers are due next month so I'll have to part with roughly £100 and I might force the issue with dirty cash.

anyone else think Tesco are being VERY quiet in all this, or am I imagining it?

they had that preorder page, and then nothing since.

I imagine they may have looked at the pathetic profit margin and possibly just stopped ordering them for a bit.

I reckon you’re spot on there. I’d imagine they’ve assessed they couldn’t afford the strain on their website from the bots, at a time when they in particular are doing very well from all the lockdown business.

I’ve given up trying.

I have stock alerts set up and a few times I’ve been up at 1-2am and got the Argos alerts and still not got one due to their annoying habit of drip feeding consoles over 3hrs by area

I’ve given up as well. Probably Christmas at least before we can get them

The drops have been happening way more frequently and in greater volume. During the last Very drop my pal's sister had time to phone him up and inform him, and he then logged on and got one.

I'd say you'll get one before too long if you're keeping your eyes on stock alerts.

Other retailers get stock and experience website issues. They could have a separate ps5 store, hosted on a different platform... but that costs money

And here’s the thing: what about selling them... in store? Not many of the “specialist” retailers have stores open, Tesco do*. And they can sell you a ps5 with your food shop.

maybe it is just an actual issue with stock issue? it’s not like we’ve gone back to the bad old days of grey imports, from the continent, with the wrong plugs, or Levi 501s...

* and other supermarkets

oh wait, that makes more sense

nevermind.

You'd get shit loads of people in the store, pushing , shoving, annoying other customers, it would be a covid nightmare. Shops are bad enough with too many people, having to pay a member of staff to police the PS5 queue would be counter productive.

Suspect the profit margin on these is around 10-15£ max, even in the large bulk supermarkets can afford to buy in, the discount won't be great, so probably not worth the hassle.

I don't know about these consoles specifically, although I know it's a tiny % compared to virtually everything they sell.

But I can tell you back in 2003 GAME did a PS2 bundle with a free Platinum game of your choice.  They really wanted us to push a £10 GAME controller with them.

Because that controller would treble the profit on the sale, the console and game was about £3 profit, which suggests the console itself was no more than £15.

The only games I want to play are PS4 games upscaled like Ace Combat and Final Fantasy 7 so I can wait another year or maybe even wait for the Slim. The switch is enough for me for now :(

Guys, please stop bumping the thread when there's no stock updates.

I understand I'm doing that now and I apologise.

Mate, you're not going to get one if you're using rllmuk as your stock alert! But yeah, change thread title to "stock discussion" maybe.

How do you know its greater volume, you have the numbers?

Couldn't it be more frequent and tiny volumes?

Multiple sales I looked at lasted longer than before even with the sites at capacity and using queue systems. Or maybe they were eking it out, but you'd expect they'd want the people hammering their servers served and gone as soon as humanly possible.

It's not concrete evidence, but hey. Amazon, without a queue, had the Series X selling for a good five-ten minutes earlier this week instead of the blink-and-it's-gone from times past.

Out of interest how long did they take to dispatch?  Mine says delivery by 31 Mar at the moment.

Mine is showing as shipped now, although the tracking isn't live in the Royal Mail app.  I expect it'll arrive on Wednesday. :)

Edit: Sorry for the bump.
