It makes me glad of the way Valve is releasing the Steam Deck. You put your name down and when it's your turn you get the chance to buy one. 

 

I understand the PS5 is on a complete other level when it comes to the scale of the release and the amount of units moved. It would be nice if Sony kept a certain percentage of PS5s for a similar system from their own Web site though

I thought that back in the day this was the general practice, although I may be confusing "preorders for guaranteed stock" with "waiting lists for the next available stock".

 

Is Valve able to control hundreds of bots applying for hardware?

I think the way it worked for the Steam Deck at the start was you had to be a steam member for at least 2 months I think. Plus you can only order 1 per account iirc

I bought a disc model at launch and then sold to a mate 11 months later. Ive been looking for a disc model recently and just could not get one.

 

ended up buying one from a Facebook scalper for an extra £70 brand new. Seems to be lots about, new for around this extra premium. 
 

terrible i know - just really wanted to play Elden Ring and GT7

I was using the stock informer site and telegram service, and a particular discord channel which I have since left and can't remember the name of, but it had a gecko(?) as the emblem.  I've since turned it all off.

I clicked it but no email yet - how long does it usually take to know if you are successful.

 

need one for psvr2 and trying to avoid bundles - Very have so many stock checker alerts because of their bundling.

I suspect there's no "it takes this long". It's just a "notify" me when you have some stock presumably in the order clicked with a little grace for you to react.

 

It's surprising to me that no-one has been offering the pre-order queue model for buying these things and leaving it to a free for all. I get that it costs some money to manage that queue but I wonder if it would attract a reasonable amount of business from people who just want one for little effort at some point.

I think Amazon can’t be bothered and every other supplier wants to maximise the bullshit bundles.

 

as for the invitation/request - I thought it was different as usually it just says you can’t order it so I assumed they had stock or were about to get some. Fingers crossed I guess 🙂
