Aw yeah, that’s the first game I ripped yesterday to try with this emulator! Glad to hear it runs well.
For some reason I always preferred R-Type Final, maybe because I was better with the slower pace, but Gradius V is the better all round shmup package! It’s still gorgeous!

Has anyone tried a rhythm game like Parappa 2 / Gitaroo Man / Amplitude? I wonder how they fare with input lag…

PS2 Guitaroo Man seems to work fine for me.  Old muscle memory kicked in and I did as ok as I ever did.   :)

I ran it on retroarch.

Nice one, I tried the PSP version and it wasn’t great, definite lag, maybe I need to mess around with the settings…

I tried Gradius V with the stand alone PS2 emulator and it ran like a dream.

I also tried Virtua Racing and SF Rush with MAME. VR works incredibly well, while Rush feels kinda slow, although it said it wasn’t dropping frames. I’ve never played the real machine so I’m not sure how the game is supposed to play.

It really is amazing that we can do all this with an off-the-shelf console! Reminds me of messing about with Xbox OG emulation back in the day (with an expensive mod chip and upgraded HDD)

Gamr has uploaded a retroarch lite version to his store - basically it’s a more streamlined version of retroarch with a lot of the menu stuff that is not needed turned off - cores all work as did before etc…

also if you want a standalone ps1 emulator grab duckstation while you can from gamrs store as it is no longer being support so once it’s taken down by ms they will not be uploading it (you can still use swanstation retroarch core etc…)

You know what’s fantastic about retail mode… Moonlight. Uses GeForce Experience to stream from your PC.

My PC is in my gamesroom, but at present I’m restricted to lying on the couch to play games. I’ve been able to play Death Stranding using my Series X, relatively lag free. Much better results for me than using Steam streaming.

Moonlight is great I’ve been working my way through Spider-Man on pc streaming to my tv in my man cave  with it for some couch gaming 🙂

As a follow up to something mentioned earlier, can anyway give an update on how well/poorly mid 90s 3d games like Ridge Racer and Ace Driver run on Mame on the series consoles?

I’ve just checked (Series X) and both titles run well using Mame 2015 in Retroarch. I’m having issues with controller settings (user error probably).

I think Sega Rally runs full speed too, possibly too fast so I need to experiment with that.

Can anyone offer some advice about remapping analogue controls in Retroarch / MAME? It’s being an arse!

Doesn’t seem to behave like the PC versions.

Edit: some web browsing suggests MAME2015 has a few controller issues, which might explain why it’s ignoring my Retroarch settings and also not letting me remap the triggers within MAME itself

What's actually better about the standalone one? The retroarch one runs everything fine but I have two issues

- needs multitap support

- 'ghosting' of the graphics in some games, very noticeable in Ico and MGS3.

Are either of these improved?

To answer my own questions. Both are Yes! Multitap is a huge deal, 4 player Mashed and PES6 on an Xbox series x in 4k, incredible!

On mame 2015 was able to to get Star Wars trilogy arcade working - see my vid below.  But it’s running slow anyone know a way to speed it up (couldn’t see anything in the retroarch core settings)

The Model 3 version? I think you’ll have to wait for a dedicated Model 3 core, I don’t think MAME can cope with these ROMs yet.

For Star Wars action, the Model 1 Star Wars Arcade might work. It glitches out for me, but there may be a way to get it working (as Virtua Racing works great)

It’s a pity as it’s runs without graphic glitches on 2015 just at about half speed.  Have the sega model 3 emulator on the pc and it runs perfectly.

love Star Wars arcade (have the 32x version running on retroarch on the Xbox )  I’m almost sure I had the arcade version as well running (will double check later)

I’ve kinda went down an emulation rabbit hole - while looking more into the mame 2015 core  I found another emulator called tecknoparrot for pc which emulates more modern arcade games pretty nearly flawlessly so have spend the morning playing mario kart arcade, sega rally 3, lugis mansion arcade, aliens extermination and Star Wars battle pod.

if somehow they could port this to Xbox is would be amazing

Edit..... video of star wars battle pod runnig (using xbox controller)

Can you share a link to the roms for TeknoParrot please? DM if needed.  I paid for some obscure hosting site when I did the thread as I couldn't find anywhere reliable.

Can you run games off external HDD on this?

Yes, I think that's the main way people do it, although I just run off the internal drive. It looks like I'm limited to 32GB in total my way, which wouldn't be the case with an external.

Any way to get Duckstation working with this now? Seems the standalone version no longer exists, and trying to load PS1 games on Retroarch slecting the Duckstation core throws up an error too :(

Duckstation has gone, but there are other PS1 cores.  One good workaround is to source the PSX2PSP version of the game you're wanting to play, and using the PSP emulator to upscale it.
